Hi,
what game today has the most populated servers.
Is there a ranking list?
Maybe there should be one on this site to give a little feel for what really sells out there. I'd love to see comparisons between games.

http://pw1.netcom.com/~sirbruce/Subscriptions.html gives you a pretty good idea, however its slightly outdated...
it doesnt include some of the newer games (such as Lineage 2 which has 90,000 *i think* and CoH which has 180,000 *i think*)...
Lineage: The Blood Pledge (a.k.a. Lineage 1) although not on the chart, has been the most populated game in the world since 98 though peaking at around 4 million active subscribers...

Games Played - Lineage, Lineage 2, Helbreath, RuneScape, EVE Online, Rubies of Eventide, Priston Tale, Tibia, RYL, Dark Eden, Savage Eden, Astonia III, Ashen Empires, El Kardian, Fung Wan Online, Project Entropia, Ultima Online, Ragnarok Online, Redmoon, Star Wars Galaxies, Thesa, Conquer Online, Deloria, Fairyland, MU Online, Legends...

I too would love to see a ranking list. However i saw something very very interesting with that link.
I have been saying for a year now that swg's subscribers peaked around October 03. SOE made an announcement about hitting 295k subscriptions, making it the second most sucessfull mmorpg in history (i assume they meant north america). That same month a series of game breaking bugs hit after a publish. Many at that point had 3 month subscriptions and never renewed them from launch day. SOE never posted their numbers again. Servers have never been full since. I mentioned this a few times and had some fanboys tell me I was wrong. Some site they told me reported 450k subscribers. Well now we see the truth dont we...
Nice website.
Some really good reading about how the games work and pull players from each other.

Anyone at mmorpg.com have an opinion on this ? Personally, I'd love to see a ranking system as part of this site, broken down by international and / or North American subscribers.
bump for the swg fanboy who called swg a success on another post here. Read the stats bud.... failure.
I think this is really why a lot of people have hard time not wanting to flame you, admriker444
It's this "inevitable try to squeeze in SWG sucks into virtually every post"...including this one....which has nothing to do with "whats the most populated mmorpg"
lol, your comment had nothing to do with the thread topic whatsoever and yet it is another SWG sucks thread. As I said earlier, we all already know that you hate it. And the most inetresting this is...your STILL playing SWG,
Let it go ma..its ok...SWG didnt murder your family or dog. We all know u hate the game...you do not need to convince us anymore

Omg, are you serious? Lol!
He keeps complaining about SOE, but yet he preorders EQ2 and is still playing SWG... that is very funny.

a current version would be good with all these enwer mmorpgs coming out

Erm not that i like SWG espically since they kept in jedis but it says 275,000 accounts which is very good for a mmorpg.
Only thing i can say is it could have made 1 million since star wars is so popular but 275,000 is not bad at all!
That's a fantastic website.. I really think it should be incorporated into mmorg.com in some way, it's a great indicator of the relative popularity of the different genres and platforms. it's also the kind of feedback that we want to be giving to the developers to say "look here's the economic result of not listening to the playing/paying community, and producing a dodgy expansion, or not putting enough effort into community support", or conversly.."look at the kind of growth you can get if you get things right".
I think that kind of quantitative analysis and feedback could really add weight to the other (very valuable) comments and advice that we have for them. And ultimately get us more of what we love.

Its not that hard to figure out the number of subscribers to a game. Just take the prime time population and multiply it by ten. That seems to give a pretty good estimate.
If the head of each game on this site did this once a month or so, the they could make up a graph on this site. I think it would be a good idea.
I played the 14 day trial of Star Wars Galaxies and I enjoyed it. I hear from everybody that it is bugged, but it is NOT and awful game, and I could see it having a decent player base.
ya i played the SWG trial too... was a male stripper errr i mean dancer (although i somehow always ended up with no clothes on...)
its really not AS bad as some people make it out to be and actually has some great idea's and i found myself quite drawn in at some points (like when a bunch of Storm Troopers came to investigate the cantina i was at because of supposed rebels in the area... role playing at its finest)...
but its deffinatly not anything spectacular... the main thing that turned me off the game however was the progression system... anything else would have been better IMO... a typical level grind fest, skill system (similar to UO)... ANYTHING...
ANYWAYS... but ya, i can deffinatly see it having a descent player base (although most of which is probably just there because of the Star Wars label)...

So, MMORPG, what u gonna do about it? Will u be able to put up a ranking list???
It would add a fine dimension to this site

everquest has about 1000-4000 on each server at peeks, last time i check they had like 500,000 members worldwide
You may be right about Lineage 2, but you are definately wrong about Lineage. WHat? Did you play Lineage for like 1 minute before logging out? Or did you judge the game by it's graphics?

I would think Everquest had the most populated servers. It has certainly been the most popular MMOG to date that I am aware of. With all the expansions though, you don't real feel the crowding anymore except in certain zones such as the bazaar. At least it was that way last time I played the game which was a few expansions ago.
I played it for a week and IMO it seemed like a dumbed down version of Diablo 1 (very slow moving, fighting) with little to no difference between characters.
well really i have liked SWG way more htan any other mmorpg...i have been subscribed to every single one that i have found other than hte final fantasy one whics looks cool. here are myreasons to like SWG:
1)the enviorment. the game is great. the community is a great. the people are very nice on my server (ahazi) not shure about otehrs but the people od get wild osme times.
2)you can do pretty much anything and you cna master a skill. there skill tree is set up by a well minded person. you can gain xp by harvest resources from a carcass. you can gain xp for shooting weapons. you can gain xp for crafting.yo ucan also tame monsters to get xp in monster trianing and even have a rancor follwo you XD
3)you can make your own guild or player city. this is a very cool feature. you can place houses and many other items on the terrain of most planets.and if your a crafter (an artisan) you cna make houses/guildhalls/many other htings for poeple ot place in their town or house
4) its a very large world filled iwth many different monsters and many different climates. you cant go to many different planets and not run into the same monster more than twice (unless of course your own hte same planet). there are 12 or so planets which you can get to by the space ports in hte large towns.
5) its very interesting for the starwars fans because every item is from starwars or loosley related in a sense that if your a starwars fan you know what it is.
6) and dont take what other people say abou soe wrong. those peopel are only huge nerds that are impatient and always demanding. i havent really came into anything bugging me about soe this whole time i have been playing...nothing wrong here. so go get SWG and if you play on ahazi contact bobbler
To be more true to the original topic, I believe that the most populated SERVER of any game would probably belong to Eve Online. The game was made to have one, massive server capable of sustaining around 50K people at once. The peak for Eve Online's Tranquility server was over 10K people. Any better records?
1. It came out before Diablo
2. Slow moving? That is why there are haste potions and other varieties of equipment/things that let's you go/fight faster.
3. I don't play a MMORPG for it's customization.
Well, it's not really my fault that you missed a great game, but each to their own
