Lie pies

This is an interesting story..

Missing:  Viral email lies about McCain

I launched my website to combat lie pies (false viral emails) in mid-July.  Well, honey, it's almost September and I have yet to come across a single lie pie about John McCain.

At first I thought I must be doing something wrong.  Why on earth was I receiving so many lie pies about Barack Obama and none about John McCain?  Well, apparently the problem ain't just on my end.  I've been keeping an eye on John McCain's "Truth Squad" website, which he launched on June 30 in order "to set the record straight against Internet smears of John McCain's service."  Well, nearly two months later, no internet smears of John McCain's service have been posted.  The site hasn't changed since the day it was launched.  If McCain's Truth Squad gets paid a piece rate, it appears they'll all starve to death waiting for their chance to "set the record straight."

If you need more convincing that the lie pies this season are a little unevenly distributed against Barack Obama, go visit Snopes.com's "Hottest 25" and TruthOrFiction.com's top 20 stories.  As of this hour, Barack Obama weighs in at number one on Snopes, with a list of lies so long you have to scroll down the page to view all of them.  John McCain is #11 on Snopes, but of the 5 items listed, only 3 contain claims that are critical of McCain.  Only one lie listed appears to be a viral email, while the others are just questions folks emailed in to Snopes.  Similarly, there are no items critical of McCain listed in the "top 20 stories" on TruthOrFiction.com, and 7 items critical of Obama.

If there is any doubt remaining in your mind about who is being lied about most often in viral emails, check out Obama's "Fight the Smears" website.  Those folks do appear to have their hands full!

In addition to all the lie pies on Obama that have been donated to our Lie Piebrary, I've also received viral jokes, viral videos, viral links to blogs, and viral newsletters all lying about Obama or demeaning him in some way.  Again, none about McCain.

Now, I fully intend to forcefully defend McCain on my website when I run across a lie pie about him.  It's not my mission to take sides in this election, and I will do my best to give both candidates a fair shake.  But based on what I'm seeing, it's time for Republicans to take a good long look in the mirror.

If you believe in democracy, if you have faith in the good sense of the American people, and if you believe your candidate can win on his own merit, you don't lie at election time.  I've said it before and I'll say it again:  every American's vote at election time has been paid for in blood.  Some things are sacred, and our American elections top that list.  These sleazy vote swindlers betray all the patriots who've given their lives for our democracy when they cheat folks out of their votes at election time.  None of us should put up with it, not even those whose candidate might benefit from it.  It is a disgrace to remain silent in the face of lies that poison our democracy.

I love our country.  So do you.  Let's all behave accordingly.  I'm not willing to surrender our elections to contemptible charlatans who sell out our democracy in exchange for lucrative jobs as political operatives.

I have been a liberal democrat since I became old enough to vote, but it just recently that I am becoming aware of how truely pathetic the GOP and McCain's camp have been in how they are running this election in particular. I was listening to the Obama/Biden Speeches yesterday on the way home from work and immediately after they finished speaking one of the reporters made mention that a McCain spokesman had pointed out with glee that Obama had mistakenly introduced Biden as "President" before correcting himself. Seriously? These people are like 2 year-olds. Some quotes are fair to use against a candidate(Like McCain's failure to remember all his homes or even Michelle's quote in saying for the first time she is proud of her country) even if they are innocent mistakes or non-issues, but I keep hearing a lot of " Nah nahhh nah nah nahhhh nahs" coming from the McCain camp.

In fact, they are spitting out so many smears and lies that the people they are targeting are getting the lies mixed up. I was at work the other day, a customer service call-center in Oklahoma, and the TVs in the call center flashed on a MSNBC promo about Obama and his (then) upcoming VP-Pick. The guy next to me turned to a girl he had been talking to and said "You know Obama refuses to say the pledge of allegiance?" When she asked him 'Why?", he replied "Because he says it is unconstitutional or someting". She then said, "I have nothing against him personally, but he was a Buddhist and became a Catholic over-night", "I mean, who does that?".

It was such an ignorant conversation I had to write it down. I didn't try to correct them because they didn't strike me as people who vote, but it is a very good example of the only tiny bit of conversation I heard in Oklahoma in the months leading up to the 04 election and now the 08 election.

Haha, have you seen his most recent ad? It's basically attacking OBAMA for going negative! Oh how ridiculous indeed.

    Here's how I see it.

Obama and McCain are both liars.

Obama and McCain both flip flops on everything

Obama and McCain both has said some seriously stupid things.

Obama is a pious stuck up communist wanna be

McCain is a very old man who is going through his third mid life crises.

Here's why I think McCain will win:

McCain is a moderate. Obama is off to left field somewhere (way off the field).

This is why I am voting for the Cobra Commander. He doesn't take shit from anyone and he doesn't have to lie to sound all glorious. If he wants to burn down your town to make way for a new shopping mall, he'll just do it. He wont fancy skirt his way around the issue.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

The reason why Obama will win: People WILL vote left field after 8 years of George Bush.

Cobra Commander is a flip-flopper and has 7 secret underground lairs, he is out of touch with the American people. His response to everything is violence, and he'll bring back the draft!

  • lol...what kinda goofy shit is this?

    Prove it.

Its not in there whatsoever. If you do happen to see it in the symbols that represent the letters then sure i guess its there.

I made a point of using symbols.Im pretty sure most everyone knows what letters are supposed to be there so why use them?

You see i have a belief that using expletives in a conversation between 2 people is the equivalent of stupidity.

If a person has to resort to using expletives to make a point understood they are just "copping out'.Instead of thinking about what they would need to say to make a point they go to the lowest form of expression used.

It is called vulgar language for a reason.

I eviscerated your argument and you're using the fact that I used a curse word as an excuse not to man up and admit you were wrong.

Actually no i was not wrong.Neither were you.We both have opinions and they are both correct because we both think they are right.

I can "man up" when needed i just wont do it to someone of a lesser intelligence.

You did not merely use a curse word YOU attacked me on a personal level in response to a posting you did not like.

That is a good enough reason to not discuss anything. When it gets to a point of attacking me instead having a rebuttal i know it is impossible to express my view point to you.Quite simply you did not want to hear it you just wanted me to be wrong.

Obama has socialist leanings that is my OPINION therefore it is not wrong.
