What do beta players think of Black Orcs?

Hey -

Been following the game for quite some time and was excited to finally pre-order recently. I've had my heart set on playing a Black Orc and was curious what beta players thought of them?

I'm not looking for someone to say they are the "best" or the "worst" or anything silly like that, just wondering about their playstyle, how tanking works, how dealing damage works with them, etc. And of course, just plain old if they are fun, and what is fun about them - normal stuff. :)

Thanks!

i havent played as a Black Orc but ive played against a bunch of em and they are pretty badass. they can take a serious beating and still dish out some good damage. its fun watching them charge into a group of 10 or so order because they have no fear whatsoever and if they have some heals on em, watch out. if you've had your heart set on playing one, get excited. they are awesome.

As far as i can tell (from the reading i've done and the footage i've seen), Black Orcs differ from other tank classes in the way that they focus heavily on stuns and incapacitating effects. This is unlike the Chosen, for example, which is a tank more focused on auras (whether they be degrading or uplifting auras) and twisting said auras.

From the footage, their attacks look pretty bad-ass ;) as in the way they swing their axe when attacking. And in my opinion, they have the best looking armour in the game, second to the Chosen.

To sum up - I think they work a LOT like the WoW prot spec warrior. To put this into perspective (and others will probably disagree with me on this)... and I appologize for bringing WoW into this discussion (because WoW is a VERY different game to WAR):

    Chosen = Prot Pally

    Black Orc = Prot Warr

Iron Breaker = Arms Warr/Prot Warr - combination of the 2

Sword Master = Fury Warr/Arms Warr - combination of the 2

    ---------------------------
Will play: not WAR, HELLO KITTY ONLINE!!11one

    Playing: EVE

Played: EQ (+all expansions too), Asheron''s Call 2, Anarchy Online, Planet Side, EQ2, WoW (+TBC), EVE

They're mirrors of Swordmasters for mechanics. offensive tanks. There are three ranks for your attacks, basically, No Plan>Gud Plan>Da best plan, and they have to be used in that order. You can always use your no plan skills, gud plan only after a no plan is used, and best plans only after gud plans.

They've got War Bellows to give themselves temp buffs. They aren't as group oriented as Chosen or Ironbreakers are, at least not directly. They've got a lot of ways to keep themselves alive and put out large amounts of damage, for tanks anyway, but can't do much to punish the guys that run straight past them or start throwing out AoE's. Well other than outright kill them. Still their combo high damage and high survivability makes them the best tanks for small scale RvR and PvE though, if you ask me.

Black Orc is the Destruction offensive tank.  Far less defense than Chosen, far more damage.  Bellows are constant buffs and when speced the STR one can break +200.  The mirror is the Swordmaster who trades bellows for sword enchantment buffs and has slightly more dps and defence.  The Black Orc isn't knockback, knockdown focused by my notes, only 1  3s knockdown in dps package.  Ironbreaker gets a 5s one and an short duration one in dps package.

I took my sorc to greenskin territory and teamed up with 3 of them.  The 4 of us wreaked havoc and took out groups of 6-7 Order, captured the whole zone, and they managed to keep me alive for almost all of the skirmishes which I have not been able to see any other tank do.  Normally we may win, but as a squishy I would die in almost every fight because the tanks couldn't actually keep me up.  Don't know what these guys did but it worked out well.  I really enjoyed grouping with them over any other tank i've grouped with if that helps you out at all.

I am playing a black Orc over the preview weekend as it was the least likely class I will play long term when the game launches. Overall, they are a good tank. They are slower but can deal a lot of damage. If they are backed by a healer they are awesome. One thing I noticed is in RVR thr Black Orc had a hard time going up against the Dwarf Iron Breaker. They are simply to tough in taking damage.

Your success in RVR for Warhammer is typically based on how well you get to know your class abilities and how good you are in general. I usually have 10 or to 1 kills to deaths ratio BUT I will chase an Ironbreaker around for minutes trying to widdle that clown down. Most of the time I give up or he will run back amongst his own a get healed. Very, very hard to take down. I would have hoped that the Black Orc was the Destruction equiv of the Ironbreaker but they are not.

I have heard, though not played em, that the Chosen is probably a better tank overall but the Black Orc does have some nice buffs and wheh a few of em are together they are nasty. I found that a handful of Black Orcs do VERY well holding a contested point in RVR from the enemy.

I mostly ignore tanks in PVP games.
