I've finally reached the point that I'm bored with all the MMORPGs I've played in recent months/years. Any advice from fellow seasoned MMORPG players on what's decent out there? I like a lot of character customization, both in look and in game-play (tweaking talents, stats, abilities, etc,), soloability but a good enough community where I can get into a pug when the urge arises, and PvP is fine, but if the game is all PvE that'll be just peachy, too.
Here's a list of what I've played/reinstalled in the last 12 months that I'm thoroughly bored of atm:
WoW, AoC, EQ2, LotRO, DAoC (went back out of desperation), GW, EVE, SWG, CoX, Tabula Rasa.
I have WAR on preorder, but that'll be a couple of weeks and I'm impatient. Any advice/help is appreciated.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

I'm married and have that all covered, thanks. Can't have sex 24/7, things might start falling off. Yell upstairs and ask your mom, she'll tell you.

Sign up for the Runes of Magic beta. starts Aug 28th.
Although you can only be human (seems very customizable however from the video I saw), the game looks good otherwise and could even prove to be something to fill the PvE bucket after you complete all the PvE in Warhammer and reach max level in 3 weeks.
I wonder why PvP games even bother with PvE levels, it's just more of filler until you play the real game. Think of it as signing up for peewee baseball and having a application form that took you 3 weeks to fill out.
- Peace
If you're really bored, try Vanguard. You can get it online for less than $20. It is actually quite good, it's just that it had one of the worst launches ever, and that caused a mass exodus to something else.
It took over a year, but it is fairly stable now.
Sitting in the same boat, don't play any MMOs these days. EQ2 is the I have play most since the release. And I think I'm lvl 42 or so.
Going back to DAoC and some Entropia now and then, plays for a few hours and forgets about the game until another week or two has past.
Since 99' with Everquest every game feels like a blur deja vu.

LOL, I just want to commend the OP for a successful defensive move.
In any case, I'm definitely in the same boat. It seems like just about everything out there is either a sequel, a clone, or a single player... All I can say for now, because I really haven't found much to get excited about. I did hear about an MMORTS coming out, which is certainly different than the mainstream, but it's still in beta. It's Beyond Protocol if you're interested at all, google it!
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it everyone.

I've been burnt out on MMOs the last couple of months also so I started playing some single player games I hadn't played in a couple years.......While I miss the chat the break is kinda nice and it feels good to actually "beat" a game again (something you cant do in an MMO).........
I'd cancel the WAR pre-order and wait for a trial.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
I played the preview weekend and I liked the black orc. For me, the greenskins area was the most entertaining, so for that alone I'll keep the pre-order. Plus the public quests were entertaining.

I'm waiting for a new mmorpg and nothing for this year so looks like I'll be waiting, playing Warhammer Online because the beta is free but I ain't buying it as it's just a bad version of WOW and i'm tired of WOW. I wish SOE would just release pre cu SWG servers or the emu team would hurry up and finish already but they wont happen any time soon. In 2003 we had innovation with SWG and Planetside and EVE and had WOW and EQ2 to look forward too, seems like the genre has just died and become stale since. What have we had since? Vanguard and Auto ass and AOC and now WAR......... lols gimme a break from tired out shit.
I heard that basketball, soccer, tennis, paintball, and hopscotch are loads of fun....and no monthly fee.
Seriously though -- in a sea of MMOs, some of which are actually good (including pretty much all the ones you listed), if you can't find one you want to play, maybe MMOs just aren't for you.

Me and my buddies have been in the same boat as you for about 1.5-2 years now also. We came to the conclusion that there will probably never be an MMO that will entertain us as much as the "Good Ol' Days". We have pretty much given up on MMOs for the time being. I might be trying WAR, but when I was in the closed beta awhile back, it wasn't that great. Most of my friends are just skipping it.
Now we're waiting on Spore, Left 4 Dead, Starcraft 2, and Little Big Planet (Ps3, haha). Sigh...MMOs....
The feeling of stagnant is mutual. UO and EQ (the early years) were my favorite. I have often wondered what NWN would have been like as an MMO.
I think the most refreshing thing that an MMO can do now is: refrain from generic character creation; auto skill adjustment for leveling; having armor define the character (40 str + 260 from armor); concerning so much on filler quests to get 10 of these and 20 of those.
These are just a few ideas...
If you're interested in a more sandbox like experience, check out the Saga of Ryzom. It is free right now, so it doesn't hurt to try it out!
Blessings,
MMO migrant.
I loved launch UO and then later I very much enjoyed (bugs and all) SWG pre-hologrind. The only game that I find that I enjoy nearly as much as those (surprisingly) is Warhammer. Try some different ones out, give them a shot, and you might be surprised in what grabs you.

Well after looking at the amount of games you have played it looks as if you are looking for something. The problem here is that the companies that develop these games dont realize that.
Of the 10 you listed 6 of them are not "pvp oriented".So my question to you is why are you preordering a game that is at its core a pvp game?
I mean its fine if you are looking for something like a new experience but if your ordering it because your bored you may end up not liking it.
If it was me id wait for the free trial.Odds are most people playing it from day 1 are going to have multiple level 25 characters so its not like your really playing catchup.
I went through the same thing and have stopped playing mmo's alltogether. There are plenty of pc games that are not mmo's that are just as addictive.(pick Sins of a Solar Empire good fun that 1 has a free online component to it as well)
Try a game that isnt an mmo but has online capability for a good break. There is plenty of them.
What is your physical limit?
Ryzom!!!!!!!!
Thats right The saga of Ryzom.
Just look at my Xfire profile i've been playing two days and almost talley 20 hours something I havent done since SWG pre-nge!!!!
It was restored my faith in MMO's

I tried Ryzom. I made a character, clicked Play and the game never went beyond the Loading screen. I quickly unistalled it after three tries. I can understand why it's free. Thanks anyway.

Two suggestions to the OP.
1. Don't play an MMORPG, play something else. Play a RTS or an FPS (even if you suck at FPS they can still be fun).
2. Take this time to build an ethanol still. It's a great hobby, and good for the environment.
????
You thought the screen froze up. It didn't. I thought that too at first. There are pictures on the bottom that mimic a loading bar. When it gets to the end you are there.
Otherwise, fix your computer..
thats a real shame.
You missed out on one of the best sandbox MMO's out today and probably the best on foot sandbox that we will see for the next couple of years.
Sucks that you had problems loading it up

I think most of the MMO gamers have similar problems with finding out a perfect addicted game like the "old-days". You guys not going to believe this, but the game that got me stucked for 2 years was "Thang online", a korean grinder which has a good gameplay, easy and fun, good community (something that i never saw again) and fun having your own "special" equipment. But that was like 5 or 6 years ago... from then i though that there must be some game with better graphics and bigger world and bla bla bla... i tried most of the MMO´s out there, hey, even Ryzom... most of the games quaified as "good fun" got me stucked for about 2 weeks, then i get bored and quickly fond a replacement, but now it seems that a new MMO got to be "bloody spectacular" to make me found those "old-days" feeling again...
looking forward to KOTOR online, star wars concept is an enviroment that i really like to try in a MMO, never played SWG because EVERYONE here says that it´s dead, or dead-walking....

I played the open beta of Ryzom way back before it was initially delayed, and boy did it stink. I ended up writing a big long flame on their forums about how awful the character creation was. A week later they decided to delay release for 6 months...I haven't had it in me to try it again. It's was just so very French.
