Archmage vs Runepriest

I'm currently back and forth about the two classes and It'd be great if i could get any info on them.



I am wondering how well an Archmage's damage really is in end game PvP.  I've read and heard that the Archmage is just a weaker version of a Goblin Shaman(damage wise at least), but how much weaker. Runepriests aren't supposed to be very good at damage either, but compared to the archmage/goblin shaman how bad is it?



How good is a runepriest's survivability compared to an archmages.



Which would be better 1v1(I would assume archmage)



What supports a clothie better, and what supports a melee DPS better?



Which class is most likely to be less played? All the polls i've seen with a decent amount of responses always varies. I've seen them both low and high on the population count.

    Runepriests are the pure healers, in PvP you won't be really doing any real damage (maybe dots) since your heals are so much more useful.

    I would say the runepriest has more survivability due to alot of HoTs and shield effects. I haven't really played an Archmage in PvP but I've seen them doing some nice damage and heals.

    Archmage would be better for 1v1 due to his DPS. But I doubt you will ever do 1v1's

    What question is that? They support everything equally.

    I've seen way more Archmages than Runepriests on the preview weekend, maybe because some people don't like playing Dwarves.

    Also I find it "wierd" that my runepriest did as much damage with his spells as my Shadow Warrior did.

    An excellent write up on both classes' healing skills in Tier 2 play. This should be all you need to read if you're confused.

    Don't worry about 1v1 -- classes are not balanced, nor should they be, for one-on-one fights.

  • DPS = Damage per second.

     

    Since the archmage or goblin shaman could heal 5 times then do a massive spike of offesnse or do non-spiky offense and a huge heal.  The question of DPS is a bad one.  And also probably why you get mixed reports.

     

    Shaman and Archmage are situational depending on how you are throwing things out.  I bet a number of people throw out a heal and then a nuke.  That is probably going to make them very mediocre.  As you will just be doing both at the worst or second worse power level. 

     

    In RvR I would think doing a lot of maintenance healing and then blasting people with a 5 charged nuke would be very effective but maybe not truly huge damage over time.

     

    Archamge and shaman are not really DPS they are really made for spike damage.  Which is  good for PvP.

    as me playing a swordmaster i prefered having a runepriest around because thier buffs and healing seem to be more suited for tanks while as the archmage seemed more suited for the less armor classes kinda weird since the archmage is a high elf. Guess mytic wants it to be like that so you can have a mix of the races.
