Hrmmm... What other game comes to mind that had a dev team of over 100 with some of the genres most experienced pioneers, promised the "next generation" of MMOs with a huge list of awesome features, licensed a game engine and modified it, took 6 or so years to develop and then bombed on release.
Darkfall sounds great on paper as did the other game.
lol ifyou think that's "top notch" graphics you belong in a loony bin. Those graphics are about 4-5 years outdated.

erm.. good?. i hope u mean from 5 years ago... not today.. now its trash on a pc
There is aboslutely NO WAY they have 70 people working on this because it would have been out or at least deep into public Beta by now. The most they have is 30.. and I doubt they even have that many based on how little info and media has been released over the last years.
again everything u just said reminds me of vanguard: saga of heroes

Darkfall reminds me of Vanguard: saga of heroes, not that many proff peeps, and takes sooo long to make.. toke also vanguard like 5 or 6 years to come out. Not many peeps, they even stated it was the first game the team had ever made, ofc it should go wrong, i hope its not the case with darkfall...

Game have been in closed beta since late 2007. Dont you know anything about this game?
Darkfall is a finished game. They is just polishing it at the moment. Playtesting, looking for bugs.
Darkfall have a publisher for Europe and will be released before the end of this year, 2008.
On friday 29/8 or shortly after there will come a long ingame video .
The only style Darkfall graphics have is "old and outdated" style.
I am not talking about style anyway. I am not talking about quality of work and there is absolutely no comparison between World of Warcraft and Darkfall. World of Warcraft wins in every single way hands down.
It's also been in development for around 8 years and WoW's developing team at release only had around 40 people. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing but because they were such a small company, many of us have been waiting forever on this game.
Darkfall of today have been in development for 5 years. They restarted from scratch summer 2003.
The game Razorwax developed in Norway 2001 to late 2002 isnt the Darkfall we know of today.
This is something many fans and trolls dont realize.
That's absolutely NOT true and you keep making that statement time and time again as if it's fact.
Razorwax IS Aventurine. Oh, Aventurine is a different legal company, BUT it was started by the SAME people that owned Razorwax.
Guess what?
The SAME people that own Aventurine STILL own Razorwax to this very day.
They didn't completely start over. That makes NO sense what-so-ever.
Fact. They announced in 2003 that the game was fully functional and WOULD BE RELEASED. That's a fact even you can't deny. They said it with their own words.
So... You claim they TRASHED a fully completed, ready to release MMO to start over completely from scratch? That's ridiculous. No one on the planet would throw away a fully completed game. They would release it and expand on it in time. That's the way MMO's are done.
Heck, even Funcom is coming out with updated graphics for Anarchy Online. They aren't THROWING it out and starting from scratch.
Your statement makes no sense.
They would UPGRADE the MMO in time, NOT completely throw it out.

WoW does do good with art. Hell those blow warhammer out of the water also. Warhammers mountain areas are total crap. Hell dark and light made better mountains then Warhammer.
Still gonna side with darkfall, no cartoons and gameplay over graphics.

Doesn't aventurine also do contract work for military simulators or something to that effect? I could be confusing them with another obscure developer.

Its a common misunderstanding that Razorwax is Aventurine. Aventurine was a Greek based company created by some Greek guys BEFORE Razorwax and Aventurine merged late 2002. Aventurine existed as a souvereign company before Razorwax moved to Greece and become a part of Aventurine. Razorwax didnt start Aventurine.
The game that were announced to go beta early 2003 was announced by Razorwax before they moved to Greece.
The merge with Aventurine created better finances and more developers working on the game and it made there ambitions for the game higher. Simply - they werent satisfied with the game developed by Razorwax and wanted to make a better one under Aventurine regim. So they scratched the earlier Razorwax game and started all over on a more ambitious project.
Here is a game world on the Razorwax game created btw 2001 and late 2002 -
Furthermore we can read in developer journals how the ambition level increased with the merge btw the 2 companies and more developers were contracted to work on the game.
[QUOTE] Aventurine was originally formed to fund and publish Darkfall. The development team was in Norway, at the time it was four developers working on design, concepting, and prototyping. While working with Razorwax to put the development team together we realized how high the operating costs, and the cost of living is in Norway. We decided to move our activities to Greece under Aventurine to get more game for our money. It took a while to organize and assemble the team and to get into full production which started about three and a half years ago. Aventurine was now developing the technology, the tools, and the game. At the time this project started there was no technology available that would allow us to do what we wanted, so everything had to be made from scratch.
Our unofficial tagline and battle cry for Darkfall development is "No compromise". We've had vertical slices of the game before, and we considered moving towards a launch a couple of years ago. We didn't go forward because, to put it simply, we all knew we could do so much better if we gave it more time, and we had the resources to do so. I believe that the resulting game can stand up to any MMO out there and it's much more than the game we originally committed to making.
Aventurine currently employs 24 developers in-house and six professional contractors. The staff is international from Norway, Greece, Italy, the UK, the US, Denmark, and France. Its activities, other than Darkfall, are research into game and simulation technologies. We've also advised war-game simulation military projects in the past through other companies in our group, activities that have given us some valuable perspectives to be used in game development. The company also sponsors and supports sporting events, athletes, and competitive gaming tournaments. Aventurine is organized under the laws of Greece and the European Union as an S.A. Corporation. They created their own new game engine and created and coded a new game world as you can see above.

That is old info from a visit many years ago.
The numbers working on Darkfall of today is probably somewhere beetween 50-70.
Doesn't aventurine also do contract work for military simulators or something to that effect? I could be confusing them with another obscure developer.
Yes they do with other companies in there group of companies.
Aventurine is just one of the companies in a larger group of companies.

You don't need a massive team to build a great MMO. In fact I prefer if its not huge because to hire 135 people you need a large amount of support staff, rental space, hardware, benefits etc. What does this mean? It means you need to make a game that is mass marketable to pay for their wages and outlay. Trust me I know I work in Workforce planning for a living.
Smaller teams do work and you will find that most of them will be working on the project instead of supporting other staff members and its been proven to work in the past. EVE Online had a very small team in the beginning and in some ways it showed through the PvE content.
Here is the difference in development. Jumpgate and EVE Online had tiny teams (I think Jumpgate had 6) and their games were focused on a hardcore fan who didnt care a lot about PvE. They spent all their time working on the combat mechanics and landscape for PvP battles. The mass marketed game has a huge amount of instances, missions and a ton of development around these areas. Take all this out and your team can really slim down.
Darkfall will be hammered by the PvE fans because they will get bored and since there is no X pointing to the spot they will get frustrated. I remember playing EVE at launch and thinking 'what the hell do I do here?' then its obvious....do anything you want, carve a piece of history out for yourself and dont follow the same path as every other person in those AoC, Vanguard type of games.
Doesn't aventurine also do contract work for military simulators or something to that effect? I could be confusing them with another obscure developer.

GMny is right! They were 30 developers in 2007. Late 2007 they had become 50. Now its late 2008 and they have gotten many more people.
