Seriously, the DF apologists on this forum are doing such a fantastic job of trying to make something out of nothing that Aventurine don't even need Tasos any more. The number of threads desperately trying to demonstrate that this is anything but vaporware from clunky screenshots, cinematic snippets, stolen logos and dev resumés astounds me. It's a bit like watching a small crowd of people staring at a brick wall thinking it's one of those Magic Eye puzzles.
Sorry guys, but all the hoping and wishing in the world isn't going to make that magic picture appear.
Hardly surprising, since they've had five more years to work on improving it. After that long I'd have thought they could at least have added a little twinkle of Flash animation, or maybe even thought up their own logo instead of ripping off someone else's (not particularly original) one.
Yes, this is a shameless rip-off. The way the wings frame the logo and everything. A large percentage of the effectiveness of a logo is the concept, and they've just stolen it. This just adds to the lack of credibilty about this project.

I appreciate the link. But the logo says nothing about when or if the game will release. It's certainly not a giant step for MMO's. Anyone who thinks it's more than (at best) a pretty picture, get a grip.
Realistic people will say: "This doesn't change anything, it is just a graphic. Sure the game is real and a beta will come eventually so doesn't really change anything. The main thing will be the video"

What you have to add to the equation is that Darkfall been in closed beta with professional beta testers since last year.
Its a official company statement that the game will be released before the end of 2008. There first official release statement.
Open beta will exceed that release with a few weeks ( edit -and a few weeks might be more then 4 weeks).
All this we know and this brand new logo of Darkfall beta make it a very promising sign.

I waited longer for this game then you have and im not bitter. Darkfall developers dont owe us jackshit. Have you payed them for something that give you a reason to be this bitter at them? No you havent, so theres no reason whatsoever being bitter. A game where the developers take their sweet time finishing their game should be applauded by all of us.

Buried how? If it was a good game it would have been able to stand on it's own two feet. Only truly sucktastic games get buried, because of the release of another game. Besides there were no other major PvP-centric games being released around that time.

Delay from 2005 was for a major update to the game, according to Women's Gamer, who interviewed them in 2006. Never before have they had a release date, or a publisher. They now have both. And they should very well know fi they delay this again, they will lose the little credibility they have left.

I waited longer for this game then you have and im not bitter. Darkfall developers dont owe us jackshit. Have you payed them for something that give you a reason to be this bitter at them? No you havent, so theres no reason whatsoever being bitter. A game where the developers take their sweet time finishing their game should be applauded by all of us.

You seem bitter cause they decided to postpone the beta 2005 since they knew they could make a so much better game then the one they had 2005.

Seriously, Aragon. They didnt do beta/release in 2003. The delay from 2003 to 2005 was to "make the game better". So I guess this delay from 2005 to 2008 was to "make the game betterer". No doubt they will delay the 2008 beta to "make the game betterest".

Buried how? If it was a good game it would have been able to stand on it's own two feet. Only truly sucktastic games get buried, because of the release of another game. Besides there were no other major PvP-centric games being released around that time.

The delay from 2003 was because the game was under a new company and had to be totally remade. Delay from 2005 was for a major update to the game, according to Women's Gamer, who interviewed them in 2006. Never before have they had a release date, or a publisher. They now have both. And they should very well know fi they delay this again, they will lose the little credibility they have left.

Tasos Flambouras: The additional time taken to work on the game was a decision made in an effort to make Darkfall directly competitive with the largest MMOG titles out there. Nobody is going to feel they've stepped down by switching to Darkfall, or play Darkfall as an alternative to their main game.
So, they took additional time to make a game that is directly competetive with the largest titles out there. They claim DF is just as good as any MMOG, including the top of the line titles.
Tasos Flambouras: But the main reason is that we decided that it's time to show Darkfall, rather than keep talking about it - we believe that it will speak for itself better than we ever could.
Tasos Flambouras: It's getting close to the point where people will get the chance to playtest the game. If they aren't looking at Darkfall now, they'll probably wish they had been.
