How big is the world compared to WoW?

So, really how big is the whole world in WAR compared to let's say WoW? Is it a living world or a closed teleport-hub-world like Age of Conan? How is it? Do you get that feeling that you are far away from home when you fight somewhere in your enemies territory?

Just curious.

Well warhammer bigger than azeroth and a quater of Outland. Warhammer is really big big world.

The whole warhammer world is bigger than any world on the mmo market. ( When they get some expansions out )

Warhammer world based on our own world. So if you look at map of our world that's the warhammer world.

Let's see. Each tier has 2 zones for each mirror race. I think tier 4 has double the amount (not 100% sure). Each zone is double the area of WoW's zones (imo).

(3 x 2 x 4) + 6 = 30 zones I think... each particular zone is bigger than any WoW zone (don't know the ratio but seems so). There are about 4 PQs in each zone, so it makes a total of 100-120 PQs.

War's world > WoW's world (counting the BC expansion) I guess...

Each racial pairing is divided into 4 tiers.  These tiers are not seemlessly connected and you will have a small (read 5seconds) load time between them.  These tiers are quite large.  Tier 1 is about as big as the barrens.  Tier 2 is larger than Tier 1.  Tier 3 is larger than Tier 2.  Tier 4 is huge, easily the size of all the previous tiers combined.

The zoning is designed to keep players of various levels seperate, but everyone of that level is in the same place.  So for example in the Tier 1 Chaos v Empire pairing everyone who is in Nordland or Norsca shares the same zone.  Theis is no Norsca 1, Norsca 2, Norsca 3, etc.  You can have hundreds of players in one area at a given time.

It's hard to say because WAR is really split up into 3 linear worlds where you go down a direct path but in WOW it's more like one big world where it's all mixed up. I would say though I much prefer how WOW made it's world and feels bigger and just feels more like a world where WAR feels very much like a game.

The one thing I always really liked about WoW was the seamless world feel.  Although, it's not so seamless when you suddenly jump from a low to mid teens area into a 30-40 area.

    Hmm..

You've had very little experience in MMORPG's.  Wow is broken up into 2 contients, with loading times between each.  We know you prefer wow with the 7 classes it has.  We know.  You keep telling us. Wow is a simple game for simple folk.  Head on back there, bud.  I'm sure your Raid group is waiting.

the one problem with WoW's zones was you could be walking along in a forest (if you really want to call a couple of trees slightly closer together than normal a forest...) take a few steps and suddenly be in the middle of some barren lava filled zone.  i prefer a little more realism when it comes to moving from 1 zone to another.

anyway WAR's map is very confusing because it takes place in about 30 (if the above calc is correct) zones spread out over the world.  each zones varies from under 100km to roughly 1000km away from each other.  they are spread out due to lore (why they are fighting there) and so Mythic can show off the world.  this means that WAR is basically going to be a series of battle(ground)s and not zones.  we should (if lore stays intact) see these battle(ground)s open up in the "hot spot" in the Warhammar universe.

as for size.  it doesnt matter, its what is inside that matters.  size of the world is tied into mounts, run speed, content, scenery (a few trees clumped together is not a "mighty forest") and danger (1 zone may be a walk in the park, the next your running for your life).  a game can have a massive amount of land but it means nothing without the above features being perfected.  Vanguard i know has one of the biggest worlds i have seen and has nailed all of the above...if only the performance was decent

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

As long as it's bigger than LOTRO which was disappointingly small IMO.

  • AnnekynnAnnekynn Member Posts: 1,437

There are over 300 public quests. As for zones, 27, not counting public dungeon zones and city zones. Each zone is atleast as big as a WoW zone. So in other words, stupid amounts of content and land to explore and play in.

Not true.  The tiers are seamlessly connected.  The pairings aren't.

You can travel from Tier 1 HE, to any Tier HE/DE zone just by walking.  But to get to Tier 4 you'd have to walk through Tiers 1 and 2 and 3.

Who cares really?  Comparisons like this are getting old.  There are tons of MMO's out there why does everything have to be X vs. WoW.

I'd have to agree, that is a load of crap lol.  Anyway, it is a very hard comparision to make even for those who have experienced CB because parts of the game have always been sectioned off.  I would estimate that the worlds are pretty close in size.  WAR does follow more of a guided path due to the tiers and loading between them.  However, the tiers in WAR have a lot of stuff going on so it is necessary.  I would have to say that WoW has more of a "worldly" feel, however, WAR has a lot more content and the world is constantly changing due to RvR battle.  I like how everything you do in WAR really effects the world, it is an empowering feeling.

So I would have to say WoW and WAR are pretty damn close in size and WoW has a more sandbox feel to it, but lets face it, NEITHER one are sandbox games so what difference does it make.  As far as claiming WAR is the largest world in MMOs, well that is VERY unlikely, but they are all close.

The tiers are not seemlessly connected.  When you go from one Tier to another you go through a portal, you then take a few seconds to load and appear in the other tier.  Seemless zoning would not have giant portals between tiers.  Sorry, I love the game and ordered the CE.  But it does not have seemless zoning between tiers.

If it was small I wouldn't care, due to the beauty of the games locations and the feel of the gameplay, however, it really does have some massive areas. Each area I've been in has taken hours ot truly explore and the forests, oh my freaking God! The forests in Warhammer are so mythical and eerie and realistic/atmospheric. I think the only way to describe the look and feel of Warhammer, is that it's like stepping into a really good fantasy book..

Playing a few different races to rank 8 during the preview weekend,I noticed by that point for each character I had only seen about 20% of each Tier I zone.

Just that 20% felt huge, definitely not the hemmed in feel of LotRO. With each Tier significantly bigger than the previous Tier, plus each race having it's own Tier 1 - 4 zones, I now have ZERO concerns about the world being too small.

Since each race does have it's own zones and travel between them is possible even at lower Ranks, the replay value should be incredible for people who extend play through alts.

In WoW, you could mix and match a lot in early levels, but as you progressed past 40, everyone sort of funnels into the same zones. In WAR, that's not the case. You can really mix and match were you decide to level each time through the leveling process. Also, from what I understand there is a lot more content in each Tier zone than you need to complete that level range progression, so on subsequent plays through you will even have some ability to mix things up in zones you've already run a previous character through!

Add in the fact that you can also gain XP through Scenarios, RvR and any PvP; and you aren't even limited by the PvE content when plotting out your leveling plans.

If I last a month in this game with out encountering major disappointments, it seems that content wise this could be an MMO I will play for more than a year.

If they can leverage revenue much better than Blizzard did and produce quality expansions on a yearly basis, this could be a huge ongoing hit of a game.
