Hi all,
I played the preview weekend, and had so much fun playing the classes I failed to try out Crafting. I was wondering if anyone tried the crafting and what they felt about it. Positive feed back only please.
Thanks

I'd liken crafting to a mini-game. Not exactly deep but more a fun diversion.
Positive feedback only?
OMG BEST CRAFTING SYSTEM EVER!
Btw it was probably the worst crafting system I ever used and it had no point to the gameplay because you didn't need anything you crafted.
Name me one MMO with crafting actualy complete or even close at release?
Only a noob tester as yourself would come to the conclusion you did.

Crafting is more of a 'bonus' for the game. Not something to make or break the play but items will give you a helping hand. I worked the apothecary after I had gotten a stack of general items for the craft.
I am most interested in Talisman making because I had quite a few gray items which has open slots for upgrades. These often had better armor bonuses than the greens which I was wearing but the greens had stats to offset the minor + to the armor the grays had. I am wondering if some of the gray items with a class specific talisman might end up being better overall to certain areas of the game, i.e. carry a set of gray 'talisman' items for PvE and have a set of greens/blues etc for PvP. *shrug* Time will tell.
Edit for context

What do you think the game will be released and they'll sudden;y make crafting amazing and all will be well? Also SWG had amazing crafting and Horizons had amazing crafting and I really loved EQ2's system too, you have games like EVE Online which just bring crafting to a whole other level.
What I'm saying is if you want crafting then don't come to WAR because it's just crap and always will be because the game wasn't designed with crafting in mind.

NO, wrong again. I'm just saying WAR's crafting system is brand new and "pioneering" none of us have any idea how it will be when its finished. They get an A++ though on originality.
It's my feeling that crafting is really about the product rather than the actual process.
It's an entertaining distraction which doesn't require a whole lot of thought at the end of the day.
It think it fits into the game though.
1) useful items and 2) something other than grinding.
Whats not to like so far?

based on those videos WARs crafting is very similar to WoWs jewcrafting/Socketing (Talesmans) and Alchemy (Appothacary) .. so yes theres crafting but very limited in comparison. The only real difference is its not recipey based so players can make custom trinkets and potions but that will fast become cookie cutter.

In general I haven't seen PapaL say anything good about WAR. Possibly he did but I got tired of reading the 'hate/crap' posts. so i pretty much ignore him now.
I do think that WARs crafting is original but I also think (aside from putting in Talismans) that's it's pretty much finished. Crafting is a 'bonus'. You can do it and see small helper benefits, or you can ignore it.
THAT I applaud the most. I used to have hordes (not Horde as in WoW) of chars because I needed to be self-sufficient for crafting. I told my brother about WAR and that I was going to roll a primary and an alt (what I called a 10% time slot alt as I don't really intend to give it much time). He said 'No Way. What about the Crafters Army? (What he used to call my list of crafting toons). End result, he didn't believe me but in the end he will. I can have just my two toons and be happy with this game. Damn..another 10 days o go. *sigh*
It will only be a matter of time before we have www.warcrafters.com or some other such website (I made that up) that will list all known combines, thus supplying everyone with a recipe book.
Yeah and with new itemization it will be always changing.
There will be a place with combinations of recepies for sure. Only thing that I wonder is an uncertainty factor concerning a "special" bonuss which could also be a bad surprise. For example: a healing potion that heals you but got a kick that prone you to the ground for some secs.

I hope this is the case.
The minimal attantion to crafting was one of many factors that have caused me to pass on the game.
Yeah ,go try Age of Conan I heard its a great game... *somewhere
I believe this system to be comparable to that of Diablo 2 Horadric Cube recipes and Runewords, before people discovered all the runeword/potions/charms/everything else combinations and put them on websites.
But but but....Mark said they want to make crafting FUUUUUN !! DIdnt you had fun in crafting?
oh to OP: This reply is pretty positive, if you want honest reply, the crafting system in this game is POS, 2nd to AoC's crafting.
The crafting in this game is targeted at people who don't want to craft. The game is all about RvR, and everything else is really just tacked on. It's not bad, but it isn't a big part of the game in anyway way.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
Thanks for the replies on the crafting. Some more questions. What kind of crafting item like buff potions did you see or craft. Are they on like a time and how long of a timer. What kind of stats do they give. Also what stats and what did the Talismans do?
Thanks
I only got Apothecary to around 100 or so, but I was churning out potions very similar to the ones that drop from mobs. + Strength, healing, HoT, something like thorn armor, ballistic skill.
Talisman Making is not in testing yet, nobody really knows.
Brand new and pioneering? A++ for originality? Don't make me laugh....
I've been in the beta since August 2007, and one of the things I've spent a lot of time on, is crafting. Well, at least after it got added, in February, iirc. Yes, I know it's beta and unfinished, but seriously, the whole system must be replaced with something completely different before you can talk about "brand new and pioneering".
There's only 2 crafting professions in this game, the other 4 are gathering professions.
Apothecary:
This is basically alchemist/potion maker, compared to other games. But, potions that heals 8-10%, with a 2 (or was it 3) minutes cooldown? Worthless, unless they really, really increase the stats on what you make. You can also make some other stuff too, ie different kinds of bombs, but the short story is: just as worthless, if not even worse.
Talisman making:
We didn't get to try this in the closed beta, but from the official info, it's pretty clear how it will work. This is jewelcrafting from WoW, nothing else. The bad part, is that you need materials from ALL the 4 gathering professions for everything you make. Which means you have to rely on at least 3 other players, or buy 75% of the ingredients from the upcoming AH. Or, lvl 3 alts to do the farming for one single main toon. Very few will consider this profession.
Scavenging/butchering:
This is simply "skinning" mobs, with differnt loot, if you compare it with WoW. Heck, you can even compare it with herbalism and mining too.
Cultivation:
This is the only part of crafting I would even consider to call "new". But, the lack of seeds we've seen in beta, forces you to either grind a lot of certain mobs (opposite of what Jacobs said), or get them from other players. Mobs needs to drop a lot more seeds, or this profession will not become a popular one.
Magical salvaging:
Disenchanting from WoW, the only noteable difference is that you can choose what stat to salvage from an item, if it has more than one. Ie, if it has STR + INT, you may choose to extract INT:
Based on beta: Crafting in WAR will be completely useless, and not many will bother with it. Most players will beyond doubt choose scavenging to "skin" sentinent mobs (opposite of beasts), since these mobs are killed way more often than beasts, which again makes butchering a bad choice. And, you can scavenge other players too. Scavenge and vendor, and just forget about doing anything with the other profession choice, that's what most ppl did in beta, and that's how it will be unless something changes dramatically.
I also know from beta that lots of players doesn't like the crafting system simply because there's no weapons or armor to make.
WAR has several good features - crafting isn't one of them. And crafting in WAR is certainly not anything brand new, pioneering, original...
