DX10 on WinXP?

Ok so I bought a GeForce 9600 GT and it supports DX10. Will WAR run in DX10 on my machine? where would I DL it? When I look at my DXDiag it still says DX9 even after loading new drivers. Thanks for any help

If you are using Windows XP you will not be able to use DX 10 without getting some wierd hacked version and registry hack to get it to kinda run or allow it ot install.

DX 10 is reserved for Vista only as per Microsoft.

there are no plans to utilize DX10 in warhammer anyway, so not an issue

If you want Direct X 10, you need Windows Vista basic at least.  Not the upgrade from XP to Vista crap either, the full version.  For some reason, the upgrade pack sucks hardcore.  When I switched to a full version of Premium Home, I haven't had a single problem with Vista.

Also, the hack for XP to run a half assed DX10 can royally fuck up your computer so I wouldn't advise doing it.  You should of gone with a 7900 if you weren't planning on getting Vista for SX10.  ;p

just like halo 2 and soon to be halo 3,  only playable on vista,   minus hacks,  halo 2 and 3 arent really a showboat for dx10

so to be honest dx10 isnt worth much at the moment i would doubt you would notice the difference.

in my opinion stay with xp and dx 9 less hastle.

you will not need dx10 war does not support dx10 as far as i know . a game has to be designed/coded/modeled with dx10 in order for a dx10 video card to properly dispaly that kind of quality gfx. owning a dx10 card does not mean the card itself will produce dx10 graphics for your games.

not sure if that makes sense or not but i hope it helps

So far the only DX10 that AoC uses is whats written at the back of the game box.

This makes it sound like you will somehow be getting less performance from your card just because you're running a DX9 engine. While it's true the DX10 hack for XP is dirty, there's no valid reason to "downgrade your card cause you won't be running DX10".

You will get 100% out of your card either way, the performance difference is marginal and due to some DX10 optimisations.

DX10 is aproven scam by Microsoft it does not offer any advantage, it actually makes most DX9 effects slower and DX10 effects need 3GB ram at least. DX10 is a scam, we all know it.

Well I beg to differ, I've seen some real renders of what dx 10 can really do, and its damn amazing, yes everyone knows most games devs haven't even fully utilised dx9, so it will take many years to unleach the true power of dx10. Just like when new consoles are released, it takes many years to actually max the possiblities.

Dx10 mainly is better lighting, shadows, dust particles and well particles in general, no real biggy but a step closer to realness.

But to be able to see dx10 u do need vista, as it is built with dx10, and is running dx10 constantly, this is how they achieve the aero effect and the cool up to date views when u alt tab or hover over the app on the start bar.

I only wish that Vista was as good as I thought it was going to be back when it was Longhorn.  I purchased it when it first came out for my win xp home media system and things like my brand new scanner/printer/copier stopped working.  Has it improved any since it came out?  I had a digital download but haven't used hotmail in forever and don't even know if i can get it again without paying for it, or if it would even be worth it.

I can think of two reasons why you'd like to run Vista:

    - You want DX10 and your smoke/water to look super awesome and your shadows crisper on >=high gfx quality settings.

    - You want to run a 64-bit OS with native support for large amounts of RAM.

Other reasons than that are pretty much fluff like "I want to run Aero" or "I have a 64-bit fetish" :)

It has improved immensely though post SP1 and since everyone actually realised they should start coding some Vista drivers.

Edit: I'm running it cause of the 64-bit fetish + 4GB RAM
