a MMO without stats, without class balance, without PVP, without PVE, full of bugs and exploits and with no gameplay and no future
ahahahaha XD
try again
I don't need haters and crybabies in the game, so why bother?
I'm fine playing together with people that enjoy AoC, if haters and crybabies can't deal with it, that's your own problem. Can't help you with that.
All I can say is, anyone with a slight brain or somewhat of a life does not get "conned" by a computer game...
You either figure out how to deal with what you got, or move on to something else.
Alot of people on this board seem incapable of such, that's unfortunate, but that's all the sympathy I have for you...
Someone with a brain shouldn't feel the need to defend the game they play, or feel unhappy when others voice unfavorable opinions on it.
Have fun with the game.
That might work in a world where people weren't addictive to flaming, hating, trying to bring games down to "support" a different game, believing that a game company actually comes to their house and steals their money, that a game company is responsible for ruining their life, forever... or so it seems...
How people like that actually make it from day to day is somewhat of a mystery to me, they have to utterly suck at life...
Btw my post that you responded to was not a defense of AoC, but pointing out the failure of people whining about a computer game.
Im not against people critizising any game, pointing out things they think should be improved, but this board is just ridiculous, flaming from top to bottom.
Hmm well its up to you if you wanna play a game that hte majority of the people on this forum hate. But posting a thread titled, "AoC is the best MMO out there" is pretty much flamebait.
But yes, its your opinion and your entitled to it. I won't question your intelligence.
It is at the end all about having a stable community to play with. Any MMO sucks without one. If you've found one, then gratz. If you haven't or lost your guild/friends in Conan then your probably here spamming on these forums like the rest of us.
Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.
AoC is nice from 1-20, entertaining with a good sotryline.
AoC is medicore up to lvl 50, you go through the areas rather fast and see your character develop, also some pvp on the way up to eiglophian mountains and old tarantia, areas are different and somehow exititng.
Then it hits you, 50-80 limited quests, lots of ganking when you hit 70 and get to keshatta where most of the 1-shot gemmed wonders are, the content is crap, the pvp is meaningless, guilds are falling apart since noone wants to play anymore non 64bit systems crash constantly, class imbalance.
There is gemduping, no siege pvp that works, there is absolutey notthing to do exept running through the same raidplaces over and over and over again ,only 4 places that are worth going to anyway.
Well i gave AoC way too much time and money..i havent played now for a few weeks exept ocasionally logging in, well sub ends tomorrw.
I think 99% of the people who responded to this post, totally missed his point.
He enjoys the parts of the game that AREgood,he is not saying that he enjoys the flaws, like EVERY single person keeps eluding to..geesh.
He is sort of right, although it is just his opinion, when he says other games offer nothing for him in the areas he DOES like....graphics/combat.
I agree with some of the other posters, that the game will struggle against other games in PVP,but that would be said for EVERY pvp game, because IMO there all crap. Not the games themselves but there PVP design. The other part that makes every single PVP part of a game crap is that the game world itself never factors into it,because it was designed for PVE.You make a PVE environment and add in PVP it just has no merit.
He is quite right when says most games out there are or get extremely boring ,so if he finds AOC less boring ,then he should be playing it.I mean why on earth would anyone play a game that is boring, lol, because it has no bugs?bzzzzz wrong answer.
I can say it till i'm blue in face ,and i will...WOW is VERY boring and he is right when says it is designed childish, from it's models/emotes,the whole make up of the game is just designed for a very young crowd.
Even the game with the most content of any game out there[by a long shot]FFXI,can and does get boring at times,so it's pretty much a given that every game will get boring after several months of playing. For those that like to power level, you will get bored even faster because your gaming abilities/content are extremely limited to one aspect[leveling].
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
And their PR is terrible. They delete threads which offer constructive criticism on their forums and ban the OPs. And they receive a lot of this because their game is a piece of crap, and they don't know how to handle people who aren't happy with their game and are requesting and suggesting improvements.
Digitized boobs don't make up for lack of compelling gameplay.
Totally bored with the "WOW is childish" - argument.
In my views its utterly more childish to view things like pissing drunks, beheadings and boobs as things that significates a "mature" MMO and people that things such things are "cool" are not as mature as they would think as I see it.
Since the title wasn't exactly matching the content of your post.
And ofcourse, you are entitled on your opinion. It's just that I don't agree.
After getting bored and disapointed in AoC ( not because of bugs and class imbalance or jewel twinks, ((those are fixable things)), but mainly because of the instanced gameworld and some basic mechanics in the game which are flawed), I tried Lotro and man, that game is so sweet and polished and beautifully worked out it really got my juices flowing. It entertained me more and longer then AoC has done, even without open world pvp. After an hour of playing I totally forgot about the dynamic combo system, decapitations and blood splashes and I found myself just completely awed by the amount of content and gameplay and immersion enhancing features this game throws at you. Beats AoC on all grounds, as far as I'm concerned. Too bad there is no open world pvp so I am yearning for WAR at the moment but if I had to choose to go back to an MMO which I played in the past then AoC is almost bottom on the list, only besting Guild Wars. I'd much rather go back to WoW EDIT: or EVE.
and I don't go by subscription numbers, then WoW would be. WoW is old, boring and childish - as is a lot of the flameposts on this board. Is AoC the perfect game? No. Does it have issues, bugs, lacks? Yes. Was AoC rushed, things missing? Yes. Still, I'd rather be playing AoC, than being bored to death with the other games out there that is either more limited, old, boring, cloned. Notice the flamers don't really have any option to playing AoC, they are either waiting (!) for another game, or going to games like Vanguard, Tabula Rasa... Well, if you're waiting for a game, you're not really playing it are you...
What about upcoming games? Well Warhammer is soon to be released, and from what is said, it's less buggy and more polished. And will probably have more subscribers than AoC. I don't really care, it still looks like a boring WoW-clone, alot of people seem to think it's just boring.
The only game that could really challenge AoC is Darkfall. However Darkfall got shitty graphics, and it isn't as unlimited as you'd like it to be. Though it's a step in the right direction.
Until something better shows up I'll continue subscribing to AoC. Not only because it's the game I prefer to play, but it's a support for someting new and innovative in the MMO buisness. I might leave if I see a better game, but not before.
EQ clones, not wow clones.
wow has both pardo and kaplan, BOTH of which are huge/old school EQ junkies, which explains wow's eq cloniness.
sheesh.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
WAR is in no way a Wow clone and is by far the most fun mmo out there.
Nice hype post
And you know this before the game is even released and before you even got a chance to play it or you played a little in the beta? This is what people said for AoC. The forums were full of people and beta players praising the game as the next messia, all over. There was even much more "AoC is the best game"'s that what we see for WAR today.

Notice the flamers don't really have any option to playing AoC, they are either waiting (!) for another game, or going to games like Vanguard, Tabula Rasa...
The funny part is that VG at its current state has more stability, content and raids then AoC at its current state.
Hell it was way better half a year ago when I left it.
WAR is in no way a Wow clone and is by far the most fun mmo out there.

Well then please give us a reason for why you like it. Seems most AoC lovers dont have any arguments holding up at all.
The game is a failure.. hands down. Any fanboi that thinks it is going to recover from its horrible hypewagon screw up is dreaming. Failcom screwed all of its members when they decided to throw half of a game at you instead of a whole game.
An to the OP, I would love to know what level and class your toon is because all of this fun your having should be shared with everyone. You prob are a level 40 and you haven't gotten to the endgame yet, (which there isn't any) or you are level 80 and are a magical class that 1 hits everyone else (I'm glad thats fun to you.) The entire stat system in the game is a complete failure, they dont meant anything at all so balancing out the classes with gear is impossible. The content is nonexsistent to the point where they have gone in the opposite direction when talking about adding content to the game.
So tell me... what do you like about the game again? The innovated and memorable combat system?
Ok lets talk about the combat system... It takes so much skill to click your ability.. then you need to follow the arrows that pop up on your screen to complete the ability. Yea, nvm I see whats innovative and skill based about that. I would rather play WoW or WAR where the classes are balanced let alone the 1 button push technique. Oh?! You say its the fatality system? Yea, like that didn't get old before you even got to khopshef.

Yeah but it took what, two years, and how many patches to get it there? VG is still the worst AAA launch in my book but you are right. It is a pretty darn good game now. One of the deepest and best crafting systems out there too.
AOC is already stable (for me) and I run on a lap top with max settings most of the time. I am getting FPS of 40+ in Tarantia even with a crowd around me. The absolutely need to fill the highler level areas with better, more, and more interesting quests though.
You know, at least five times a day I say to myself, "Thank God I'm not that person..". This is the fifth time today, I would hate to be blindly devoted to the failure that is Funcom.

I Like AoC for trying to be somewhat unique in the MMO world with it's combo system.
I like AoC for the use of fatalities, every time i get a fatality I'm reminded why I like AoC so much.
I like Funcom for trying to create a better roleplaying experience than the rest of the MMO crowd. Even thou this is not complete in all areas they still get's my blessing for it.
I like AoC for creating some unique classes, like the Herald, a superb melee mage.

Everything you listed is all the things I loved about AOC as well. Unfortunately, they weren't enough to keep me interested. The eye candy is great, but beyond that, it's a hollow depthless game, for me anyway. At the end of the day, there's nothing really to get excited about.

2. I load in Kashetta and while Iam still thinking what will I do some starting to beat me up while my "protection" is still on. I hover over the protection buff and see 9 seconds to go, I buff my self and start gaining some distance and as soon as the buff is off I beat the crap out of him.
3. Now checking my guild window to see there are 34 members online, I ask in guild chat whats up and members are responding we are in Epic Kashetta now grinding and protection our spawn as we get attacked by other groups every now and then.
4. I joined them and do some grind there for like 20 minutes ( got lucky with 1 epic too ) then one of the members suggest lets go to normal Kashetta and grind that camp for gems so we do it.
Once we port there few more members wanna join and asking in what instance are we .. checking the instance window I see 5 instances we told them come to Balder and lets make 3 groups.
5. Around 1.5h pass since I log in its 17:30 GMT and people are getting raid for our Black Citadel Raid.
The raid is over within 2h and around 10 members were put out of rotation so I ask them what are you guys up to, the raid is over ... they responded we are fighting with few russian guilds at city in kashetta, all of our raid moves there and what we see is almost 2 full raids of russian guild against several other guilds and us. After around 45 minutes of fighting there is like 28 members online we still have 1 raid group goin on but russians are logging off.
Well thats above average day in AoC.
Average day:
1. Raid either BRC or vistrix
2. Some group farming in epic or normal kashetta
3. 2 days per week we dont raid but are doing boosting groups .. 1 boosting group of lvl 60 and 70 and another 12 man raid for protection.
4. At least 3 to 5 mini games to boost up our guild points. ( 3 to 5 for me )
5. Some open world PvP group vs group or raid vs raid.
If you are alone in AoC you will be bored as soon as you hit level 80, if you have great guild community behind you there is still lots of fun.
As for the new players at this point I would not recommend anyone to buy it and it would be better to wait and see if Funcom will deliver everything they are blabbering for past 3 months.
Even as solo and casual player you can have good fun leveling up but at the end you will be bored at the end, not to mention crashes and some stability issue especially if you PC is not like less then 1.5 years old.

Yes, but is that really any diffrent than any other MMO out there, the only diffrence between them is that Conan has been out for 3-4 months and Everquest2 has been out for 4 years, for years of adding content. Time is the diffrence, and Funcom's time ran out as in all the major MMO releases so far part from World of Warcraft.
I enjoyed EQ2 when it was first released back in 2004 aswell, even thou it was as "uncomplete" as Conan was at the time. They even changed many features i liked with EQ2 in the favor of all the whiners and made it worse´.
Conan and EQ2 is in many ways rather like, it has highend graphics(for it's time), great visual feel with zones.

Flame away, that's what you all do best
/junker
Everything you listed is all the things I loved about AOC as well. Unfortunately, they weren't enough to keep me interested. The eye candy is great, but beyond that, it's a hollow depthless game, for me anyway. At the end of the day, there's nothing really to get excited about.
Barfman - The superhero people are reluctant to call upon.
Well then please give us a reason for why you like it. Seems most AoC lovers dont have any arguments holding up at all.
Really ?
It seems some just dont wanna read
Well let me copy paste one of my previous posts:
Ok how does my average day in AoC looks like:

Well my experience is a bit different.
1. Log ON

Futilez[Do You Have What It Takes ?]
