well once again the trial passed me by and i didnt bite. The reasons being as follows.
Starting a char in eq2 on a rather new European/American server doesnt exist...
Being that older servers usually have tons of alts twinked out thus for new people destroying any meaningful pvp...
getting groups and leveling in lower areas probably impossible
My suggestion is the next time they do a trial connect it to establishing a new european and american server thus maybe people who want to try the game would actually make the leap..
DAOC is thinking seriously about this possibility and if they do i will jump on if they have a European server..

It's not a PVP game. And it doesn't sound like you even tried to find groups. Pretty much you solo to about level 15, and then you can start doing some of the dungeons. I never had any real difficulty finding groups, though sometimes I had to do a different dungeon.
No i didnt try the game. And reading some of the posts i thought there were actually pvp servers thus pvp..
But again as i never did try it because of reasons listed... Fundementally the possibility of starting on a fresh European/American server does not exist..
Of that is the game producers perogative but I and many others just wont bite i guess..

this game has pvp servers but not many (3 out of 25 servers are pvp) which means the mainfocus of the game is pve. they had more pvp servers but had to merge some of them caus epopulation on them was too low, so starting a new pvp server is not likely to happen or it will not last too long till it gets merged again with another server.
even starting a new pve server probably won't work out in the long term and they might have to merge it with another server later on (but it might have a better chance). But on other side the problems with twinks are not that big on pve servers, so the only bonus that this would give would be that all players would be low level at start (but that will probably change fast too) and first hardcore players will probably be lvl 80 in less than a month anyway.
Sounds like what you are looking for is not what EQ2 is offering at this time.
Good luck to you and I hope you find what you are looking for in a game.
well i got a living legend key yesterday, activated it, and began the 15 hour download....15 hours later what happens? game launch failed
never used the e-mail or station account before
wasnt there at least suppose to be a 14day free trial even without the stupid legend invite.
very unhappy after wasting 15 hours and deleting a game i could have played in order to try out something that fails.
yeah it onl gives me the option to reactivate eq2 not try it, i think i did a trial a long time ago on a diffrent station account with a difrent email...
15hours to download and 30 seconds to delete it all...time to move on i guess
you can allways register the trial to a new station account. but probably registering teh living legacy key locked that account to the trial so you just would have to create a new account to do a trial.
They pretty much fixed the twink problem in lower tier with the pvp XP and TD gear .
Just start in TD and to the quest there stuff is like Mastercrafted gear equivalent and u can buy ap1 spell pretty cheap .
I agree that uber twink was pretty bad for new player back in the lock/uberAA/no TD gear days .
I had a fury lvl 15 with 21 AA back in the old days i was pretty much destroying green/blue con , good times .
Really there is only one pvp server, with the rest nothing more than overflow servers.
This has its pros and cons
on the positive the pvp server (along with the role playing server) are almost always medium load, which means that a decent amount of people are playing on them basically 24/7
The negative to this is that the server is chalked full of twinked pvp chars. Being relatively new on the pvp server meant getting ganked, seemingly every 15-30min after level 11. The people ganking me would do so in a group usualy, meaning i had no chance, even when running. When i did manage to get lucky and get ganked by a single guy the same level as me, i managed to take a sliver of his life away, as he destroyed me in seconds. Really made me wonder how?
But the truth is that this isnt really a pvp game, from what i hear, this games strong suit is the role playing pve server. I would imagine that the pvp server would be loads of fun if i had several fully twinked characters on it, as they offer decent rewards for pvp and decent quests such as killing certain amounts of enemy players from certain classes ect.
Its a fun game, you just have to know what to expect and what not to expect. Dont expect to jump on one of the many empty pve servers and expect the same experience you would on a well populated pve/pvp/rp server.
My family loves EQ2. Nothing with gameplay was ever the issue to us.
It was/is the performance
We finnaly have computers that can run the game on highest settings all to find out that it will crash instanly. Even on the second highest setting it will crash.
I hear it is because the game does not support more than one proceccer or sli/crossfire.
BUT I have heard that they hired a guy this summer to start work on the engine to support more than one processer and sli/crossfire. If this does happen, and the game is fixed, its good bye WAR hello EQ2, again.
its not true that the game does not support more than one procssor core, it supports them but does only use really one of the cores. it got a bit betetr over time and now under windows vista 64 i can see that eq2 is usually runnning at about 55% cpu load on my dualcore with peaks going up to 60% (which means that its running full load on one core and doing some minimal load on 2nd core).
not sure on sli/crossfire support if its really not working. If its really not working then its a thing that ati and nvidia have to fix with their drivers. But i personally think that technically its working but cause eq2 is heavily cpu limited people just don't see any improved framerates cause one gfx card is allready fast enough tocatch up with cpu's.
what eq2 really neeeds would be a switch from old Shader model 1.4(or was it 1.3) that they using to SM 2/3/4 (these are more compatible between each other). but thats a whole lot work to do this since you have to rewrite all shaders that are in game now.
