I have exactly the same video card, and I played in the preview weekend. I didnt have any problems playing with the 8600 gt, maybe later with massive rvr you will slow a down a bit, but not so much to buy a new video card.

I have Windows Vista... you will be good with 2 gigs of ram with XP, if you want you can buy another 1 gig but you dont need to. I think you will have a great time playing with those specs... if you want to play new games then update your rig, if you just want to play War you are good to go.

    See you in game!

What good is the extra 2gb of memory going to do in XP?

At best you MAY be able to get it to utilise 3gb with the /3gb switch but i've never seen the benefit in XP or it register the full 3gb.

3gigs is tops for xp. Hell 3 gigs is top for anything but 64bit vista.

Everyone says get 4 gigs with vista but 32 really doesnt fully support more than 3.

With a recent update, Vista 32bit now supports 4 gigs of RAM.

Dont even get 2g of more ram. I once had 2g of ram and upgraded to 4g, i noticed zero difference. Unless you are planning on keeping 30 tabs of mozzilla and 3 games running at once, you wont need it.

I was running on vista 64 with 4gb and then i took out 1 stick to donate to another pc and have 3gb in that system now thinking i get another 1gb later but you know what i am yet to see a single game that actually even needs that extra 1 gb so i am not bothering to waste my money(even if its dead cheap) or opening the pc to add another stick till i see it and yes i played age of conan which is probably the highest demanding mmorpg out there and doubt WAR will even be near as demanding

Yeah but 2 gigs of ram and another 700 odd on my graphics card? Every little helps? :P

  • jaycee2006jaycee2006 Member Posts: 466

Or an extra 1 gig of ram and 700 odd on card :P ^

personally i doubt you will notice  any difference in performance upgrading past 2gb for WAR.

If you want more fps and a smoother play then i suggest getting a ati 4850 which is an incredibly cheap card for amazing performance above a 9800

Well, I think I would need a new motherboard for that, plus, for 1 gig of ram, and upgrading from a 256 card to a 1 gig card, would only cost 77 pounds including them fitting it.

I am interested in upgrading my processor, but I don't know what processors can go in my computer or how to fit them.

One more gig of ram and you'd be good. Two gigs of ram (1x1) or just a 2 gig piece would overall be the best worth for your buck as it's much cheaper then buying one stick, at least from my experiences.

Also, since I don't really want to make a new thread for this, does anyone know / think how well an ATI Radeon HD 3200 would do in performance for this game (assuming there's sufficient RAM/GHz/etc.)? She wants me to build her a new computer that should be sufficient in playing video games (as she plays, but not too seriously) but not overkill. Right now I have something going for around $600 bucks and it would be amazing with an 8800gt for an extra 100 bucks but she isn't willing to spend more then what I've got for her. I'll probably end up getting her the 8800 for christmas, but I'm just wondering how the HD 3200 would work out.
