I tried to buy EverQuest II but SOE is all out of copies of the game

Jefferson81Jefferson81 Member Posts: 730

Will they make anymore game copies with the upcoming expansion or should I just forget about it?

I just checked with SOE and they informed me that although they have been working on the new expansion for nearly a year, with some features taking much more time than that, they have decided that in order to maintain some sort of profit percentage in their business they will not offer either EQ2 or the new expansion for sale. When asked why, they called this concept the "Minimum intelligence barrier" approach to MMORPG marketing.

    So nope. Sorry.

No more copies of EQ2 or the expansion for sale.

    Ever.

    Really.

Look! There is something shiny over there!

    Move along, now.

    The fine print:

The upcoming expansion will include all previous versions and expansions of the game. If the game cannot be found currently on game store shelves locally, it is available for download online, as is a free trial. Please always remember to use the internet responsibly. Apa ratings may not reflect your actual milage. Prices may vary.

    This just cracks me up.

Why bother making an expansion if you are not going to sell it?

I guess SOE doesn't want any more subs for their game then.

Epic fail just epic fail, brother.

    You fail

Not only are orignial copies of everquest still available so will the expansion on disc. I seriously doubt you spoke to anyone at SOE.

This is from the EQ2 players.com page where it talks about the expansion. Notice the line where it says it will be available at 39.99 via (well you read the link and figure it out yourself OP)

    eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_content.vm

I do believe after rereading the post I quoted that it was written in jest.. But my links do answer your original question OP.

    . . . sometimes, I admit, I wonder why I choose to venture out onto the internet at all . . .

I say you did not check with SOE and that you are making a false statement here. You can download EQ2 from Station Store now and yes there are still copies out there.

Never, never, never underestimate the effect of the "Minimum Intelligence Barrier".

Thank you all for brightening my day, at least a bit.

Well ya should of asked for a Trial Key everyone has been handing out like candy.

Cause they gives you all the released content free and then you get to keep it when you subscribe.

But honestly who only tries one shop to get hold of something. Seriously shop around.

What shop did you try to get EQ2 Rise of Kunark from and I take it you were asking for Rise of Kunark and not any of the other release packages.

You do not need a top of the line computer to play EQ2..

    Okay, in all seriousness.

Let's take this slowly, not so much for you, since you decided not to play, but for others who are reading and are interested.

"Everquest 2", the original box, is most likely hard to find. Even in a city the size of San Francisco. That is simply because the last expansion (Rise of Kunark) included not just that expansion, but also the original game and every single expansion since the original publication.

So, when you went into your local Gamestop, or wherever, and asked for "Everquest 2" it is very possible that the underpaid and under-motivated clerk simply typed in the name and saw that SOE is no longer sending out the original boxed set.

And a good thing too, for if you had been able to buy that (what? three to four year old) product when you asked, you would have simply gotten the bare minimum game.

    No expansions. No upgrades.

Had that happened, it is possible we then would be sitting here reading the complaints of a 27 year old man concerning Sony's "epic fail" in selling him a product that did not include everything that the latest release of the same product contained.

As others have pointed out - San Francisco is a big city. You might have been better served to go to another Gamestop, or another store completely, and ask for the same thing.

To that end, a scant moment's look on the internet would have given you all of the above information, included venues where the hard copy of the game (Kunark) can be ordered (Amazon) and why it is in the best interest of the customer that Sony no longer sells that older, non-updated product.

Let's be honest. Since it appears that you were able to take the time to write a post and complain here on MMORPG.com, but were unable to do the simple search to find what product was available, it is obvious that you (along with several here) have some kind of axe to grind with the company.

So be it. Lord knows that they've screwed over many a customer (see: Star Wars Galaxies) and deserve much of the disdain directed to them.

That said, in this regard, you have no valid complaint. Yes, there was a failure here, but at least in this case, it was not from Sony.

I apologise (well, a little) for poking a bit of fun at your situation. I honestly thought that the not-so-subtle "Minimum Intelligence Barrier as a marketing approach" comment would clue you and others in to just how silly the complaint was.

Whew. Was I wrong. God bless Darwin.

In the future, I will either be much more subtle or simply more direct, when I decide to take a moment to challenge the kind of silly misinformation that is rife on this site (which, for what it is worth, is not the fault of the site, to be sure).

Good luck to you, Jefferson. I hope you find a game (uh, literally) in San Francisco that you can enjoy and can play for years to come.

I got this feeling that you do not have the slightest idea of what your doing? Are you trying to get the game through a retailer that SOE does NOT ship too? If so then that is your fault, you need to find retail outlets that SOE ships too. You can find copies of the game all over online and at several big name retailers.

walmart and a few other stores all carry rise of kunark where i live in florida, and as stated before it has all previous expansions as well as the adventure packs in it.

If you cant find the game, it`s probably too complicated for you to play it.

Stick to Trouble or Operation type games.....

You are just full of bullony.

So it's my fault that the stupid SOE doesn't ship their game to a retailer?

Look, posters have shown you where to find the boxed game, if you must have it in that form.

I recommend digitally downloading it, as it gets bound to your Station account and, should you ever need, you can download it as many times as you need.

No it is your fault that you can't be bothered to do a simple search for EQ2 on the net to find out who has it. As has been pointed out several times here.. you can buy the dang game now in several stores.. The original box may not be for sale now as the game is over 4 years old, but the currently expansions they have out include the original game and all expansions up to date.

Now instead of trolling here on MMORPG.COM, just open another window in your browser and do a simple search. It would have taken less time to do that then come here complaining about something of which you are obviously totally clueless.
