Their probably waiting like everyone else... for the actual beta to actually start, I haven't seen any authentic beta videos... just cinematic style shots taken by the creators not any beta testers, I personally hate the 'perfect landscape' screenshots and videos, I want the gritty shots that show actual gameplay even if it's as mundane as backpacks and npcs in shops or being killed and rezing, those shots and vids show what the game actually looks like, I bet mmorpg dot com will announce something once they've actually played in the beta or have confirmation that it's begun which it hasn't.

That's a bit of a cop out. Lets you claim something and then slink off without proving it.

Well, I'm going to let you have a small victory here, as the only quote I found was regarding more than 200( so 200+ total ):
"There's a focus on optimizing our massive battles capability; we want them to run as smoothly as possible with as many players as possible. We’ve been simulating massive battles and sieges with more than two hundred characters and getting a good 30-60 fps on average machines so far. Under normal loads we typically get over 150 fps and there are still several optimizations to be made so we expect these figures to improve quite a bit. "
However, I still do not believe for a second that a gamer on an average machine is going to have 30-60 fps in on-screen battles of 200+ players.
To zorvan's credit, he did take the time to find the info he posted by making a thread about it on the official forum. Which is tempting fate because making a thread over there that is asking for repeated data usually gets attacked pretty viciously. This is due to the flood of people who have never heard of DF till the video and have been turned on to the game and are asking ridiculous questions that are in the FAQ etc...those hardened 7 year vets dont take too kindly to that. Glad to see you still alive Zorvan.

Take a look at Lineage 2. VERY simplified engine, Very simplfied customization, and you can't have a 200+ players on screen battle wih even 30fps on a high range machine, much less an average one.

much higher fill rate and polys. and effects. there using tricks and in the vid you can clearly see it was running fine now if they turned up the settings it might not have on that machine they was using to record
Rather a very silly argument since there is no way to test such, no matter what Adventurine says, simulation is not reality.
We will have to wait for Beta to start to get some idea how large battles will function. Until then none of us, including Advneturine will know.
Just as an aside, I don't know of one MMO that gets 30 fps with 200 players in one battle, even playing with a high end gaming computer. It is entirely possible that Adventurine has a very good client. The fact that many of you are missing it is not always the client that has issues, it is just as likely the server.
You can point to Eve as an example, they have the fastest servers of any MMO, yet still have problems with large fleet battles, which is strictly server side.
So I think the argument should be postponed until it can be tested in Beta.

I play Mount & Blade with the battle sizer set at 150-175 and I get 30-60 fps easy. I have a video on YouTube if you want to see.
You've got to remember that, like Mount & Blade, Darkfall has very low polly counts for it's models. Most mmo's try to crank up the poly counts for the characters because they only have to render enough characters for groups or raids with a couple dozen people.
How many polys does an AoC character have for instance? 2000? I'd be surprised if a Darkfall character has even one tenth of that.
If someone can get 20 FPS in AoC with 20 high poly characters in a high poly zone then they can get the same FPS in Darkfall with 200 low poly characters in a low poly zone because the poly counts will be the same.
Poly counts are everything, not the number of characters.

You cannot compare what can be done in a singleplayer game to an mmo. The graphics themselves are not the only contributing factor.
200 computer controlled NPCs running around according to the programs orders is different than 200 people running around in random and unpredictable ways, which adds stress to the both the computer running the program, and to the server trying to process all of that individual info.

True, but low frame rates on the client side is all down to the graphics and the number of polys the GPU is being asked to crunch.

Ever played Joint Operations? It's an online shooter that manages to run battles with 150 players - without lag. You should try it. There is nothing more exhilarating than playing a game where it only takes one or two shots to take you out when there's 75 people on the other side trying to do exactly that.
not one word about darkfalls new video or even there beta applications What gives? you being paid by another company or what?
does darkfall even qualify as being able to have a forum here? seriously.
that diablo cut-scene video is pretty much that...
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Telling a fanboi that Darkfall is vaporware is like telling a child that there is no Santa.
except that the child WILL grow up and stop believing in Santa.

Where did he specifically mention 400 players?
Look through the development logs, I'm sure you'll find it.
200 vs. 200 in pvp = 400 players
You're quoting that figure. You find the quote.
When someone asks you to back something up, you don't turn around and tell that person to back up your arguement for you.
Your the fan, right? You should know everything that's been said already. I'm not going to dig through the Darkfall wasteland to find a quote that has been referred to by many, especially fanbois, on this very site in the Darkfall forums.
That's a bit of a cop out. Lets you claim something and then slink off without proving it.
Lame tactic.

Telling a fanboi that Darkfall is vaporware is like telling a child that there is no Santa.

Oh yes I can.

We will see come beta.
does darkfall even qualify as being able to have a forum here? seriously.
that diablo cut-scene video is pretty much that...
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
except that the child WILL grow up and stop believing in Santa.
