After 4 Weeks Free time i can say that >>

i tried all classes and player them at least to level 20.

Around Level 20 the game becomes boring, never mind what class you play. Why ? Mostly because the Xp curve is raising in crazy amounts. For solo players its a timekilling boring thing.

The game is ok, the game has bugs like mobs attacking from inside walls and killing you. Theres a Global 2 sec timer which is totaly unnecessary and its just slowing down fun. 1 sec for this stupid Global timer would have been enough.

Sadly there arent many players left. in 4 weeks i didnt group just 1 time, i was looking for groups but the players online were mostly 30+.

I played on the emtpy European server Halgar, some germans are left there and some other europeans, maybe some US east coast players between thats it.

The most time i havent seen anyone while hunting, i seen some players in cities but while hunting almost never.

The moving speed of the characters is to slow for the big landmasses and only a few classes have Run Buffs. Mounts at low levels are to slow too btw..

The quests are boring and always the same just higher levels.

In the 4 weeks there was never a Patch or any download from the patcher. I expected more motivation from the developers after all the hype in the last weeks, but nothing. No bug fixes nothing.

Today was my last day and i left the game after my Bloodmage got jumped by some MOBs suddenly appearing out of the walls in a cave. That sadly happens all time if indoors and it seems the developers arent able to fix this very dissapointing bug.

overall i had always fun with my new characters but i am not willing to play the same time from 20 to 21 than i needed from 1-15. i got my Shaman to Level 25 then the xp curve raised again, i killed 3 dot mobs that give alot of xp but the xp bar wasnt moving anymore.

Toooooo much time needed from 20 to 50, you could level two or tree Level 80 chars in that time in AoC just as comparison.

so all the hype about the GU6 is nice but i dont expect much from it but many Nerfs to mellee classes.

i am honest, i had a blast with every class but when i came close to Level 20 with every single of my toons, i had the feeling that i have to quit my Job , leave my wife to achieve something in VG.

so for unemployeds or people that dont have a life or work i am sure this game is for you !

Wow, in 4 weeks of free time you managed to get all the classes (19 of them) to at least level 20? It must have been hard for you to decide which of your existing toons to delete because you can only have 8 characters (or 12 with a station pass).

It's too bad you didn't level one toon up to level 30 so you could have found a group... I have a few alts at the 20 range and never had a problem finding a group for them but I guess it depends on how you ask maybe.

Reroll on Seradon and I bet you'll curse how many people you find trying to compete with you on quests.

Level 10 mount = 30% increase to run speed and the level 20 mount is 40% - that's quite a bit faster than the character run.

If you read this forum or the official Vanguard forum you would know there is a trial being put out and a big patch to correct hundreds of issues.

Vanguard isn't WoW, thankfully. I levelled 8 toons in WoW in 3 months and that was before the xp increase. I like the slow pace in Vanguard. With the size of the world, moving slow seems to give you a lot more time to explore and enjoy. I think most of the Vanguard community is in no hurry to reach level 50.

If you are only grinding mobs, levelling will take forever. Visit a quest hub, grab 20 quests and hammer them out in a night or two and see how fast levelling is.

I own a business, am married and have 2 kids and I manage to play this game just fine. In fact, this game is perfect because you don't need to wait an hour to find a group or get into a raid or wonder what to do. I have 2-3 hours a night and I can manage to accomplish a lot in that time in-game. I play a different toon each night so I maximize the rest xp by the time I get to my first toon again. Levelling has never been an issue for me, but then again I grew up in EQ where there used to be hell levels. Vanguard is still in my opinion the best bang for the buck on the market today.

VG is not about rushing to max level.

That is why there is a zero xp buff for those who wish to slow down or stop the xp gain.

VG is not WoW, whilst WoW maybe a good game, I myself levelled 3 toons to 60th in 8 months, without trying. Too quick.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Very well put Bronks. Especially the first part. You complain the leveling is to slow yet you claim to get 19 characters to 20 in 4 weeks? My last character had a play time of about 25 hours and I was level 14. Granted I was in a brotherhood with someone else and I got my crafting to level 16, but still. You must of really been packing in the hours to get so many people 20 that fast... especially to say the game is not good after all that time.

Sounds to me like you played 1 character to 20, a bloodmage.

ha no more people on seradon please :P  Sunday night I had my bard doing the HL quest to kill the turtles and flys and there were like 3-4 other groups in the area.  It was pretty crowded and competion over turtles was pretty heavy.  We ended up killing birdmen and waiting one some of the people to clear out before finishing up the turtle part of the quest.

As to XP rates I'm gonna have to disagree. For the last several days I've been playing with my xp off so I don't outlevel the HL quests and I also want to do CIS and I seem to be leveling way to fast to do the quests.  From around 20 you got HL quests, TK quests, and CIS.  If you want to do them all their is no way without turning your xp off.

But really who cares about XP as long as you are having fun?  If you are just racing to get to 50 then you are gonna miss a ton of great stuff.  There are some amazing places to explore in VG and some truely great dungeons.

With reguard to grouping I gotta say maybe this is why I see to be leveling so fast.  I'm a casual player so I'm not really into the grinding scene and I find solo questing to be boring as sin.  I'd rather sit and craft or do diplomacy if I'm solo while looking for a group.  Since my play sessions are frequently short like maybe 2 hours that makes it challenging in many games.  In EQ2 and Wow I pretty much only got to solo as I leveled.  However in VG since lvl 14 or so I've done almost all my XP doing groups.  I'm not sure why people have trouble whenever I want to group I just pick a dungeon and say in /ooc looking for a group or to form a group to do XXX.  Then I check lfg and start inviting people.  With the rift system it hardly takes any time for people to get together.  Some nights when I'm lazy I'll start just crafting and watch ooc.  It usually isn't long till I see someone looking for people and I join or I have my lfg tag on and someone invites me.  Fact is in the last week it has worked out too good I'll log in at like 9pm PST and end up in a group and get too attached and stay up past my 11pm bed time and end up paying the price at work the next day.

But I love groups and find it hard to resist an invite....

As to bugs I haven't ever been attacked by mobs through a wall like you describe.  I think there was one time the mob was invisible but that's happen to me in many games and I just back up a bit and it reappears.  Again I think I learned that technique from eq2 or maybe even wow since I've had that kinda thing happen in just about every mmorpg I've played....

Finally the combat.  I find the combat system in VG to be great.  The global cooldown is pretty common in just about all games and with the number of options in VG for attacks and abilities I don't feel like things are too slow.  In fact being new I'm still trying to get upto speed so I can exploit and setup weaknesses for people I play with.  Unfortunately I need to learn the system better to be good at it and things seem pretty quick to me trying to keep up with the information I need to evaluate as I play.  I'm sure with practice I'll be able to play better but then that is what I love, it isn't just randomly hitting keys there is some thought you need to apply.

First off you full of shit about the leveling in Vg its VERY casual based  like 10 good quests at 20 and your 21 or close to 22 and it took you   30 mins ,leveling in Vg was way too fast for my taste , my wife and i was 50 in a lil over a month , i expected to be able to enjoy the game for at least 3-4 months before i hit max , the lower level mounts are fine , buy new saddle/horse shoes it will be better , or level up and get a different mount , my self or my wife never seen a mob attack from out of a wall , and idk what server you were on but i see groups every day for just about every level tier. yes it has buggs like every mmo and no it doesnt have 4 mill real players and 6  million gold farmer accounts like some games , but its NOTHing at all like what you have tried troll on us .  if you excpected to hit max level in a week i feel sorry for you , how can you even have fun in a game like that ? you speed through the whole game missing 90% of the content,  why would anyone want to hit the end of the game in a month ? what a total waste of money .

Heh the OP must be playing a  different game than me.  Vanguard is about as easy an game to level in as one will find.  A new player should be able to reach max level in 5-10 days played.  With 14 different staring areas of course it will appear that non one is playing.  Add in that most people solo to 20 in a day or two its unlikely you will see many players as there is no need to group and people are so spread out.

I will agree with him that game is stiull buggy and that the rate of development of new content is close to non-existent.

But the idea that expereince is to slow is just shocking.  I know we live in age of  players that have no patience and attention span.  But my god how easy do you want your game to be.  You might as well just ask to start at level 50 and skip the rest of the game.  Quite sad.

So many people fail in this topic and act like the average stupid fanboi.

The OP played the game and this post is his opinion.

Nowhere in his post I come across the word WoW. Nowhere!!

Yet you pathetic fanbois come up with the same old same old WoW statements *disgust*

With your endless elitish attitudes against new players (like so many of you do in the game as well) Vanguard will never come around. Never!

I have tried Vanguard again this month as well and MY reason that I quit is that the world chat disgusted me! So much elitish attitude towards new players, I was just shocked by it.

If you want Vanguard to come around and get new players to join the game, then you surely need to continue with the elitish attitudes.

    Have a nice day.

What a troll statement this is... be proud of your trollish nature because I bit.

As I'm sure anyone who has ever played VG can verify:

Community in this game is the best hands-down community around.

Ask in shat for someone to make you a newbie set of armor, for example and you will probably get 3 sets mailed to you FOR FREE.

Ask for directions and you can usually get an escort.

Ask for advice/hints and you will get 5 responses in under a minute.

Get into regional chat and say the game sucks and you will be laughed out of the game.

I think this is what happened to Guillermo197...

  • i loved Vanguard even at launch + a month or two.... i left not cause i didn't like the game but because i was busy with other activities in life... i really look forward going back to it someday.... and from the sounds of it it has gotten better.

I played Vanguard from Beta in August 2006 until GU5 in 2008.  When there were alot of people who were complaining about game lag and unplayability I had very few minor problems.  I would get 30-50 FPS on average running around towns and in quest areas.  I would get 80+ when out in the middle of nowhere hunting alone or visiting a remote dungeon.  However that all changed when GU5 was released.  My dual core 3.6ghz PC with 2GB of Ram and 512MB PCI-E x1950 (Agreed not the best, but not shabby either) was incapable of playing the game at all.  I tried for over a week.  Uninstalling reinstalling, following the suggestions on the forums.  I eventually had to give up.  When I would log in I would have frame rates down in the single digits.  I was not able to fight mobs, heck I could barely move.

I heard of the Free game play time but I had already completely removed the game from my system and re-enabled my EQII account from before I started Beta in Vanguard.  Everything was still there and the game played smoothly.  I was able to hook up with old friends who didn't follow me to Vanguard and caught up quickly to them.

Now I am awaiting DarkFall and hoping that there won't be gameplay issues that make it impossible for me to play.

    Best,

    Phae

The issue with the OP's post is it seems doubtful he actually even played the game.  But others, who post well informed, albeit negative, reviews will typically get the response of, 'nice review' and then an exchange on the some of the points made.  Done it many times myself, but I'll always respect anyone's opinion that tried the game and wants to post why they didn't like it.

And I have to agree, that the community in VG is very helpful to new players with information, crafted gear, give-aways, newbie events... I've never seen anything like it in any other game.  A number of posts here have stated they really didn't enjoy the game, but they were impressed by the community.

Elitist attitude? On Seradon the chat is full of joking, adult humor and helpful information. Also plenty of group spam to the point I turn world chat off at times. Great game. Warhammer is calling me but it may be a tough call seeing as the wife and a good friend are relucktant to leave Vg ow thst we have started.

    Another assumption.

I myself hardly ever ask for help as I know my way around in MMO's.

I have seen people asking legit questions, wich might be bit Noobish to some people, and got flamed for it. No reason to do that.

I admit that ofcourse I have seen helpful reactions as well during my time spend, but I have seen plenty of elitish attitude comments in chat as well.

I'm not sure there is any more elitist attitude in VG then any other game.  Log onto eq2, wow, or lotr and ask a newbie question that some poeple see as dumb and you will get the assholes in every game to chime in with helpful remarks.  RTFM newb!!  Or go look it up on the web....  or other stuff.

While i agree Vanguard isnt a bad game, i dunno if i agree about the amazing community people are claiming this game has.  When i played i found the people i ran into were nice...but very few and far between.  The game was still a bit buggy over a year after launch, and the character models(although i know they are revamping them now) just absolutely drove me crazy.  While some people look at those as small factors in a game, which they may be right, Vanguard is still far off from what it was supposed to be and what was promised, in my opinion.

Sure, the WoW community is unbeatable. That's got to be the worst indeed. After that we end up at Age of Conan (altho it's more Funcom to be blamed for that to be honest). And then we end up with Vanguard as a solid third place.

I have been with Vanguard dating back in Beta and the elitst attitude already started there.

I have never seen such a massive flamewar between Fanbois and people critic to the game as back then on the unofficial community forums (Silky Venom) as with any other game till Age of Conan.

The elitist attitude might have lessened a bit at this moment, basically because all the critics have left the game. But it's still present.

    Cheers

And that is why VG is boring. It's the same Quest-to-level BS that is in EQ2, WoW, AoC, and other games. Why play a buggy game with horrible system requirements and performance like Vanguard when you can get a superior experience in a game like WoW. Yea, I said it.

WoW is superior in almost every aspect to Vanguard, and to most sane gamers, graphics mean about jack, especially when you're hitching around horribly everytime you cross a zone/chunk line and you FPS is in single digits.

The game is not worthy of those bloated system requirements.

SOE games always have a horrible community. People always rave about the community in SOE games but they are only half of it. The over half are the elitists that don't bother to even acknowledge that anyone other than themselves exist. I was a hardcore raider in EQ for years (like 6 years) and I was probably one of the few people in my guild that actually grouped with people that weren't in guild and had casual player friends that I hung around with.

Anyone who played EQ and raided should know about the locked elitist serverwide channels that existed for almost every class. I was a top 8 geared Necromancer on my server and still didn't have access to it, you had to be "uber" in the strictest sense of the word.

In the end, alot of those EQ players moved on to other games, and the attitude is like a plague. It spreads. Alot of WoW End-gamers/raiders came from EQ and have that style of play (which is why they have no issue grinding faction for days to get uber equip to own in the BGs). Alot of EQ2 players are the same way. Same goes for VG.

That elitist attitude started in games like EQ and later DAoC and as those players gravitate to other games they bring it with them and it rubs off on others. SOE games are quite notorious for it, though.

They are also notorious for rabid fanbois that vehemently deny it.

This thread is funny, and this game sucks. No matter how much a game sucks, there will always be fanbois who slap you with walls of text and reply to every sentence in you post to deny it. And "the OP must be playing a different game than me" is such a classic response.

If the OP is Euro then it would probably seem logical to play on a Euro server. With AoC's problems, people here and on other forms seem to have taken the opportunity to evangelize this broken game and make it seem like the grass is greaner here, but that is not necessarily the case.

I got in the WAR beta and have already cancelled my open beta and uninstalled it, but I'd seriously consider playing that than playing Vanguard again. That game runs so smooth, and seems optimized with so little bugs compared to VG (I personally hadn't run into any other than a chat box issue) that I wonder why people even put up with this game.

Most people don't give a crap about graphics, they care about content and gameplay. They care that VG has been out for so long and hasn't had an expansion. They care that content updates are rather sporatic and not systematic - there isn't much outlook to the future and you're always hoping/guessing.

If they spent all this type on their graphics hoping it would hold their own, then I'm so sorry they failed so horribly. Vanguard and Age of Conan is a lesson to all MMO developers that graphics is secondary to Gamplay/Balance/Game Mechanics/Content. WoW and WAR is a lesson that Graphics can be lesser as long as the game runs well and works as intended.

No one wants to buy a super computer to run this game. And please don't argue with me about system requirements because I've upgraded 3 systems already to get it to run and my FPS is still < 20. Buying a new one is out of the question, cause every other game besides Age of Conan runs with 25+ FPS in high load/traffic areas.

    Vanguard: Bastard MMORPG of SOE.

Sigh, WOW fanboi got tired of the WOW boards and decided to troll a bit?

Asking someone not to argue is like ending a sentence with the word period to signify that your statement is the end of all further discussion. I play VG on a 2 year old Dell Dimension with an Nvidia 8800GT I added to it and I get 45-55 fps everywhere I go. Maybe you need to rethink what and how you are upgrading, or bring your system to someone who can do it right.

My wife's factory media center HP computer plays VG with 25 fps...

VG > WOW any day and time. I refuse to spend $15 a month on a game that boasts 10 million players and yet, with $150 million each month in revenue cannot put out more than an expansion every 2 years? Go back and bend over for Blizzard... they got you over a barrel good. Period.

This game is 2 year old, thats like 2 generations of hardware. Plus a lot of code optimization.

If your comp is kinda new it should run VG with decent graphic. If it fails you have some problem and better fix it because in additional 2 years most of the released mmorpgs will have graphics like AoC today. And dont tell me that this game is less hardware hungry than VG.

2 years ago this would have been a valid statement, today its more like a joke.

The community in VG is superb, very helpful and mature. If you log in and write as level 1 char into the chat "lol, this game sucks, WoW is so much better!" (no joke) the community is not helpful and mature and show some scary verbal teeth.

And if you think WoW is better in all ways I would suggest the obvious: Move out of this forum and play the game you like. Its pretty obvious that its not this game. Not EQ1, WAR, not Lineage II, not DAoC, not (lol Im just reading some posts of you, you dare to talk about elitistic attitude??) EQ2. Actually what mmorpg did you like to play?  Just reading your "WoW was fun for 2 weeks." post.

Why do you actually write in such boards when 95% of your posts are complains about something? Play single player games instead. Fallout 3 is coming out this year and its published by Bethesda and if they dont screw up the Fallout 1&2 mechanics it will be a great game.
