New browser from Google. Yes it is open source. I use FF now, I hope this one is good. It's a nice clean comic that explains their intentions.

You can find it at: http://blogoscoped.com/google-chrome/

With them having made already Google Earth and E-mail (among other apps). Makes you wonder what's next for Google? An "MS Office" type of application? A new OS to replace Windows and Mac/OS??? From my understanding, I was told that the Sidebar that you see in Vista was one of their ideas (or that they made their own version of one) Which personally, I like because I keep my Stock ticker there as well as other little gadgets which make it easy to view instead of having to open a new page.

I like it, its fast and definitely compliments the eye candy that is vista. I only wish for an ad blocker now ;)

I cant wait to see how it preforms in other tasks because I've been using it for all my habitual sites I visit and it works perfect and faster then firefox.

Yes, because I really want a company who grosses the majority revenue off of ads handling my browser.

I'm sorry I just don't trust google, they are one of those companies that make me go "Wow thats genius", that scares the crap out of me.

Normally it's "God what a dumb ass idea", nope not with google..

Regardless I won't use chrome, not until I've seen the code chopped apart and explained detailed like over at sourceforge.

It's a typical Google app.  Pure garbage with tons of people lining up to act like it's the second coming.  Isn't it great that we live in a time where people judge things like this by who makes them not on the actual quality.

    I suggest you try http://www.sandboxie.com/

Sandboxie prevents anything from the web from downloading or taking over applications, placing anything that comes through into a "sandbox" ( including malware, etc. ), which you can delete after browsing.

I understand the whole thing with the ads, hence why we have pop-up blockers. But in terms of trusting them... wasn't google the first to tell the FBI to Fudge Off when they were demanding that google turn in all their data with regards to what websites people were browsing under the excuse of "home land security" or some such thing? Then google told them "No, can't do it, we protect our customers privacy"? Personally, I'd rather have a company that has enough balls to tell the government to step off and watch its boundaries than a company that will gladly bend over just because the govt. says so.

And since Chrome is completely open source, Astropuyo you can freely look at the code whenever you want.

  • I downloaded it...and went straight back to FireFox! It only transfered about 2% of my bookmarks! That, plus a sizing issue, and who knows what else...

Of course I can, but I'm no programmer and i do not pretend to be.

I get the gist of code, but I'm not going through each struct until i find a "omg" , no I'll wait for my buddies at the forge to do that.

I'll wait until certain points are highlighted and commented through so I can read the code in a orderly fashion .

Right now the source code is a mishmash of stuff. I use edit plus for this kind of thing specifically.

Looks good...I'm likin' the extra screen real estate.

Plug-in support is flimsy right now though. Flash works, but Silverlight doesn't.

It'll be interesting to see how Chrome and IE8 grow alongside one another. IE8 has already incorporated functionality such as dividing up tabs into different processes, with the addition of automatic crash recovery if a page/tab does fail.

It'll also be interesting to see how a mobile version of Chrome running on Android stacks up to Apple's iPhone and Safari.

This isn't really about speed or functionality.  When Chrome takes off, your idea of what a browser is will change.

You've all heard this before, but it's about web-based applications.  One of the big things holding Google back in this department was the lack of compatibility from either IE or Firefox.  That's what Chrome is meant to be, a real platform for this kind of thing.  The emphasis is on platform.  Ten years from now, you will tell your kids that you had to physically install Office on your computer, and they will look at you like you're on crack.

To make it more clear, Chrome is not meant to compete against IE or Firefox.  It's meant as a direct attack on Windows itself.  Microsoft is already on the road to losing one of their main advantages, the fact that Windows is currently the only platform for almost all of the applications used by both major corporations and end users.  You see, in under a decade, essentially all of that software will not even deal with the OS layer, just with the browser.  Microsoft realizes this and has released their own, proprietary of course, set of standards to facilitate this.  Google wants to undercut them here.  They want to strangle MS of their monopolistic leverage by hoping their free, open standard alternative takes hold.

I don't know for sure whether Google will be the ones to force this change.  It will happen eventually, but it may not be them.  They're certainly the most likely party, though.  Google has already lined up agreements with most of the major PC manufacturers to ship Chrome stock with their machines.  Plus they can leverage Chrome by using their search engine.  Microsoft is in no position to stop them.  If MS even says one word about this to manufacturers, MS will again find itself on the losing end of an antitrust suit.  They have no chance of victory this time, since the precedent of their own previous defeats alone would sink them.

Ohh I see, Chrome is more like an open source application layer then a browser.  I was evaluating it as a browser and wasn't impressed, but using it in this purpose is different.

This is why Gates and Microsoft have said Windows 7 ( Vienna ) will more than likely be the last off-line OS, as they are planning the same thing.
