How is the loot??

My biggest question is: How is the loot?  Is every class going to be walking around in the same looking armor? Same weapons?

Is there Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra Rare loot?  Do the Raids give sets of loot?  Is everyone going to be after the same exact equipment for their class?

Or is there some uniqueness and choices that people will have to make?

Loot wasn't that bad when I was in there.  You can get some nice things from the PQ.  Also, even if 5 people have teh exact same thing (at lower levels maybe) you can simply go to your local tailor and get it died.  Most items have a primary and secondary color so that means you can completely change from all others around you.  (a great feature ala the good swg)

Edit: I only played 4 characters up to level 12 and I can say that each area had its own unique loot which was a nice thing to see.

There are several different types of armor.  Most RvR-centric characters will be using RvR gear, as it is quite good for its level, and most PvE-centric folks are going to be playing with PQ loot and Renown gear.  There's also a hybrid of PvE and PvP armor, which is gained by questing PvE targets -in- RvR zones.  I believe it's called Bounty Hunter gear.

I believe that there are something like twenty different sets of armor for each of the twenty different professions; none will look similar.  You'll never see a Brightwizard that looks like anything but a Brightwizard, or an Engineer who looks like an Ironbreaker; their armor is class-specific, and each set of armor is designed to look good on its particular class.  They improve dramatically as time goes on, too; when you start, you've got a little scrubby uniform, and by the time you're ranked up to the third or fourth tier of RvR gear, you're looking pretty badass.  Also, the capacity to dye all of your gear to make it look more singular to you is a great addition and it works well, although the more vibrant colors get expensive.

Also, yes, there is white, green, blue, purple, and I think orange and red gear.  They use the same sort of quality increase formula as WoW when it comes to what gear is better.  Blue > Green, and so forth.

Each set of loot, be it PvP or PvE or hybrid, has a certain thing it does.  For example, my Brightwizard uses largely PvP gear, but I'm always working to get PvE gear because the PvP is heavy on survivability; lots of Wounds, Toughness and Initiative, while PvE gear is heavier on Intelligence, which is my damage-dealing stat.

Itemization is pretty cool, in closing.  They've got a lot going for them; between rank 1 and 11, I changed my whole set of gear three separate times, and add and subtract a few particularly good Renown rewards.  I'm even wearing something that dropped off of a player in an RvR zone!

all gear looks different because all gear is career specific

So each class is going to look the same, except different colored. A Brightwizard will look just like all the other BW's with the best gear, except there are three sets of gear each will want. PVE, PVP and Hybrid, but nothing unique and rare??

Career specific means class specific right?  Seems really bland to me.

Each class has a specific style to it, which means that you can tell your enemie's cass from a mile away. But, the ornateness of that armour is very spread out. In addition, there are trophies and dyes that help out.

Playing in beta where everyone was using an IDENTICAL level 31 template, everyone seemed to become different very quickly due to the amount of loot you are always swapping out for new stuff.

I'm not in beta, or following the enws too closely, but iirc they had a 'trophy' system which was basically slots purely for cosmetic stuff - skulls for orcs etc, to help characters look more individual.

Not a clue if it's making it to release though.

I sort of like the lack of diversity in classes.  reminds me of FF tactics when I used to make teams of the same class, cause it looked all professional.

And I can't wait to see guilds all dying their armor the same so they look like the regiments from the table top game, that was a big selling point for me.

to each their own I guess.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

The honest answer is no one really knows. There is supposed to be over 100 sets of armor per career. You will definitely see alot of the same people wearing the same stuff in the beginning, but I imagine as you get higher level you will start to see more varying types of armor. Not to mention there will be hundreds of trophies per career to make you look different than everyone else, and you can dye your armor.

Another thing is that every single stat in the game affects you in a way. You can focus all you want on Intelligence for the defensive and offensive bonus, or you can go for Initiative, or Wounds, or Wisdom. They all have an affect. A Melee DPS'er may very well want to invest into INT for the defensive bonuses. Maybe not.

The Warhammer lore isn't really able to do alot with crazy armor types. You'll never see a bright wizard wearing gear that looks like a zealots, or an Iron Breaker with a Chosen armor type. The game is about armies, and armies have uniforms. The main distinguishing feature between the armies are your trophies, your title, and your uniform color.

It's been in the game since beta 2.0 when I joined, probably earlier than that too.

  • When people say loot fits a classes "style" they mean that if a Swordmaster has a shield it will be longer and more like a tower shield and more ornate whereas a Black Orc probably has something that looks dingy and probably brutish and bulky and brassy.  An Ironbreaker, since its a dwarf will no have a long tower shield like the lef swordmaster because would even be able to stand with their stumpy legs.

Each class in warhammer is a "piece" in the miniatures games people modify and sawp things around on the miniatures all the time, but they still keep it within a style.

I High elf swordmaster using a dwarven ironbreaker shield would not look right.  That does not mean there are not 20 or 30 different High Elf shield designs.

Witchhunters have a certain look a sort of Van Helsing overcoat top hat thinkg going.  Again not all overcoats looks the same even if they are all overcoats.  Not all pairs of pants look the same even if they all had a 35 waste and a 40 length.  But clearly a dwarf wearing pants with a 40 length would have trouble walking.

I've gotta come back here and answer the 'bland' comment.

Do any of you guys remember back in Asheron's Call 2 where they made it so that not all armor fit all people?  So you wouldn't have Lugians racing around in Istarian armor?  This is essentially the same deal.  An Elf in Dwarven gear would look like an idiot.  A Dwarf lugging around one of those tall, spindly-looking tower shields isn't nearly as appropriate to their race as the round shields I've found for them.  So yes, everything is class-specific, but it all fits well into the lore and makes an awful, awful lot of visual sense.  I'm looking at you, early-level non-crafted WoW armor.  Booties and a pair of tiny, furry shorts and huge shoulders, are you kidding?

I have found, on my characters, quite a number of armor pieces that outstrip my RvR gear.  They could be dyed to match and generally every class looked unified as for what they were; no Brightwizard could wear Warrior Priest armor, and no Engineer could use Ironbreaker axes.

It all -fits-, which, in my opinion (and the opinion of Games Workshop, I'm reasonably sure) is extremely important to the overall artistic feel of the game.  One of the great things about WoW's art style is that basically everything looks as though it belongs in Azeroth, and one can tell at high levels what a person is by what they look like.  This takes it one step farther, ensuring that every class in the game can be picked out from every other one by sight from a hundred feet away.  Do they all look the same?  Not at all.  But they are all in the same style.

The armor sets in early levels -do- look a little bland; they're supposed to.  The later-on RvR armor (my Brightwizard only played to 14 in the last beta step) starts looking very cool, and the ability to dye all of those armor pieces is important as well.  Someone made a blue and white Brightwizard robe (I'd have never thought of the color scheme myself) that looked positively awesome while he was burning folks down alongside me.

Also, PvE/RvR/Hybrid armor sets are all quite different.  There are -several- low-level PQs you can hop into for gear at low levels, and each zone, even other races' zones, have PQs which reward you with gear appropriate to your class and the level of the area.  My Warrior Priest didn't get an off-hand wieldable book until he left the Empire zone and went to the Dwarven area to finish a few PQs and find some new loot... and while I was out looking around for the new gear, I was still playing in Scenarios and leveling my character, which got me another step closer to my new Renown rewards.

It works.  It really does.  Complaining that an elf can't wear a dwarven helmet and a human won't be able to pick up a Big Choppa is, at least in my opinion, a little silly.

Keep in mind this is a regimented team game mostly so as with any army you are going to have similarities. To make your character more individual you have trophy slots that will help distinguish you by site. And as said in an earlier post each class will have up to 100 unique pieces to choose from overtime. Combined with die changes and Guild enhancements for capes etc you can still stand out from anyone else. There need’s to be some commonalty in order to identify troop types on the field also.
