Combos are passworded abilities. It is actually a step back, you are having to hit a button for your auto attacks 1-4 times before you can do your ability. Direction attacks are rather boring and you simply do your most damaging attack to the mobs unprotected sides until dead.
The frantic button mashes actually takes your focus away from the game itself, so you cant focus on overall tactics and strategy( esp in pvp, it is just a 1 shot zergfest, and class balance is very terrible. Warhammer completely gets the tactics and strategy for large scale warfare right.)
Sieges are a buggy mess, and tons of easy to exploit things, and it is boring most of all, the focus is to destroy buildings..............woooo thats epic.
Most combo abilities are laughable. Stamina drains, and mana drains, buffs to strength, and debuffs are laughable, and really do not change gameplay in the slightest, draining mana or stamina from mobs or players is rather useless.
Dungeons, the few that are in game are all pretty much tank and spank, with the odd caster that is all about dps and interrupts before they can wtf own your group.
Elite mobs are not really elite, they are just super tough versions of normal mobs, makes it rather boring.
Everything in AoC has been done before and done better. This is just a small sample.
OP: I don't see how you can say nobody talks about AoC gameplay. If you exclude our obligatory "Failcom are a bunch of incompetent, banana smashing monkeys," you will find lots of points that directly or are tied to gameplay.
For me, when I quit AoC, it's gameplay was also tied to the technical issues I had with the game. In no order of priority:
* Screwed Classes: Broken feats / skills / abilities. These things were broken at release and still are now months later. Also, I will use Ranger as an example, since that was the 2nd class I rolled but wanted to like more than anything... Pitch Pots... a skill you could acquire way later into your Feat Tree development. But it is **still** completely broken. I'm not talking about low stats, long animations, wrong descriptions. I'm talking about hitting the skill and **NOTHING** happens. No animation. No consumption of action pts. No cooldowns. No attacks. Ranger players have complained about this since day 1.
* Failcom's tendency to Nerf the bejeezus out of things with classes and not fix them. Hope you have lots of money in the game. Because you'll need them to respec / reset your Feat Trees. Kind of hard to develop your character's playstyle when things are nerfed left and right. That's how it was when I left.
* Oversimplified crafting. Maybe because I was spoiled by SWG's old crafting system, but I was not impressed by AoC's "Coloring Book" simple crafting system. It was what I would call: "Disappointing."
* I later upgraded my computer for AoC. Only to find out about the fabled "Out of Memory" issue coming up every 5 minutes and CTD'ing the game. No gameplay whatsoever if this happens.
* Questionable reasoning on how equipment was developed... Useless gear. High level players using gear much, much lower levelled ones because they feel later gear is useless.
* Utter lack of graphical variety on equipped items. Get used to seeing a small handful of looks any class can have. Because everyone literally looks the same. Worst example is the lack of graphical variety of armor. Are you going to play a spellcaster? Hope you love ragged looking robes.
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." lets talk about gameplay.
