I was thinking about this piece of news this morning. Worst case scenario - BUFFY flops, Multiverse calls it quits and FIREFLY MMO is hopefully sold to someone who can do it justice. Or, in a much more unlikely event, BUFFY does great, Multiverse learns A LOT and creates a FIREFLY MMORPG that's actually great.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

Oh man, I'm just laughing now. I think I'd subscribe for a month just to laugh at the campy badness. I'm a huge fan of the show, but I don't think anyone thought it would be an MMO.

Well, the current MMO fad seems to be PvP. Just look at the number of games that are comming out and that are PvP heavy.
Vampires could be the next big fad that will be copied over and over, resulting in half dozen or so vampire/gothic MMO's (not unlike the number of fantasy themed MMOs right now). Rather scary idea but I could see it happening.
The ideas for MMOs really seem to be worse and worse as the time progresses. Lack of creativity? Lack of common sense? Greed? Probably mix of all those factors.
Unfortunately I have a feeling that Buffy themed MMO will not be the bottom of the barrel.
It's so weird...I just started buying the seasons last week to watch from the beginning. (Most of what I had seen was from season 4 on and bits and pieces of the first few seasons) Watching it I was thinking what if they made a mmo based off this world and googled it lol.. Sure enough they're gonna try. I think the game would make a great mmo..if it's done right...and the company making it I think it's gonna fail cause it doesn't seem like they're gonna do it right.
I mean the way I see it you would have your archetype/race/class system. Races being Human, Vampires, Demons, Half Demon, Werewolves. Classes would probably be Slayer, Witch/Warlock, Hunter (someone who hunts vampires but not a slayer prolly another melee class.) not really sure of any healers in the series...Obviously slayers would have to be female toons but I mean I wouldn't gripe about that too much there have been lots of female restricted races/classes in other games. (Sorceress in diablo, mithra in ffxi). I donno thats kind of my thoughts on a buffy mmo. But these mutiverse people I donno it seems like theyre gonna turn it into a social game or something...if only one other mmo company had the rights, and Joss Whedon writing the game I think it would be a great mmo.
It's literally one of the WORSTE business models I've ever seen. And their software / tools are medicore doo-doo at best. Compare them to something like Hero Engine and Big World and they are a complete joke.
The only reason you see this junk getting any kind of deals to build any MMORPG's on known franchises is because the people who founded it have connections and know people. For example James Cameron is on this junks Advisory board.
Does anyone really think that if this thing was founded by a start up company run by a bunch of no-name joes that they would be getting deals to develop software with it for FOX based on their shows? Fuck no. Never.
Multiverse = junk peddled to ignorant CEO's by people with a name and connections.
I feel sorry for the bunch of idiot Angel Investors who dropped 4 million into this pile. They could of taken that 4 mill and built a decent MMORPG from scratch. DAOC only cost 2.5 mill to build. Look where Mythic is now.
Or they could of built a total bad ass MMORPG development solution and had plenty of money to spare.
Sometimes I wonder how people that have money can be so stupid.

What the Buffy TV show lacked in entertainment and a good story line it made up for in boobies.
Where as an MMORPG buffy that lacks in quality can not be made up for in boobies. Animated boobies= Epic fail.
