I have Vista on two old computers, and my new beast. Vista runs flawless, and the fact older stuff doesn't work with the new OS is because of the SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS fault, NOT VISTA. Microsoft gave developers 2 years and tons of information to get their software ready for the new operating system. Many people complain that User Account Control (UAC) is frustrating them. All it takes is one extremely simple step to disable it. On each of my systems I did a benchmark between XP SP 3 and Vista SP 1. I have found in much newer software that games actually run faster. Why? Because developers have opitimized their game for vista performance. My only issue was running vista on my older laptop from 2006.
So seriously if you're going to bash an operating system claiming it's terrible, do some tests. I guarantee vista will run much smoother, faster and "lag free" in your newer games.
We go through this with every single operating system. I remember when windows 95 came out and people were like oh shit, you need a cd rom drive to install it. Get over it.
The war on Vista is going well, we plan on 100% Vista free compu...oh you meant...
I had no problems running WAR on Vista 64 besides crashing a few times but I believe that was server side. I'm sure I'll run into some issue sometime though, it's just a matter of time.

Vista 64 here, and I would never go back to XP. Having said that though, I think the pople that think vista is inferior to xp probably don't have the system to make the best of vista. For one thing, if you have 2gb ram or less I would stay with xp. While Vista will work with 2gb ram, it won't be at its best. I have 6gb and things run really fast with no stutters.
It all comes down to money. If you can afford a good system then go vista 64. If you can't, stay with xp. WAR runs well on both.
Vista has it's difficulties but inherently is more secure than XP. That also makes it frustrating for folks who have acclimatized themselves to the User Account Control/elevated command prompts, auto in-bound blocking of all connections on the firewall etc. That said, I like it. Initially, i didn't care for it but after a few months I have grown to like it in most ways. I ended up having to study the minutia to be able to support it professionally so I 'figured out' the (to me) silly things and overall have very few complaints.
New things still pop up every day. For example, while I use IE 7 here, just the other day, I discovered the 64 bit of IE7. Light speed compared to the standard 32bit IE7. The only irritation is no plug in support. When I come here (not many other sites) I still have to run the 32 bit version of IE 7 because i love my ieSpell Add-on (which I think more people who post here should download and use! )
Okay, I am rambling. I use the 64 bit version of windows ultimate and had no problems with WAR either in the CE CB or the PW. Approximately 2 CTDs over each 3-4 hour period when they (CDTs) were at their worst. Seemed u to be somewhat less by the PW after a couple small patches were applied. I never had to reboot but rather just popped back into the game after waiting a few seconds for the game client closed down.. I have a good 'workhorse' PC with a couple small pluses for gaming (medium grade nVidia card and decent 5.1 Soundblaster card). I noticed lag I think 2 times during some very intense PvP Scenario play when I was the center of 3-5 explosions all at once (damn witch elves/shamans!)

For me i went with vista because it utilizes my dual core cpu better than XP.
