Welcome to the painful process of upgrading your PC image

  • DerfelCadarnDerfelCadarn Member Posts: 875
Well, the parts would work with eachother but I dont advice you do that(or buy from compusa). The older XPs are very budget AMD chips now, and not a great performorer. At the end of the line with XPs, they could not compete againist there intel counter-parts. I would go with the amd64 2800 or 3000 with ddr400.

For therecord any system is upgradeable its just how much you want to upgrade. I suggest you get a new motherboard newegg.com has a good selection I would try to get a nvidia those work good, a cpu maybe a amd intels are expensive amd are good for gaming, these are just a few things you might as well buy a whole new one.image

Well, he is going from a P3 1000mhz, and thinking off upgrading to this. You cannot upgrade a 1000mhz p3 to a 2700+ amd XP socket A without tossing motherboard and cpu. Then it really is a new pc.

No, as long as your case is ATX and your willing to keep your old hard drive(you must erase before use). A Amd 64 2800+ is around 140 dollars in the states(pricegrabber.com) and you could get a decent 754 mobo for about 80 dollars(look on pricegrabber).

Most likely yes, but I would not use a old HP case for a new pc. Be safe and get a 50 dollar case with a 350-450watt power-supply.

Sorry but im not going to buy a nVidia GeForce FXimage

Can you answer my previous question?

    plzimage

  • r1tualr1tual Member Posts: 559

    I thought I did.

I own both ATI and Nvidia.  I could never consciously tell anyone to buy an ATI.  Sorry.

Get a Nvidia 5700 Ultra.    They are under 200$.  Im sure the 5950's gotta be close to 200$ now also.

Trust me you wont regret getting a nvidia.

  • diegofrgcdiegofrgc Member Posts: 451

Why should i trust you? image

Why do you think nVidia is better than ATI?

  • r1tualr1tual Member Posts: 559

    Stability.  Performance.  Picture quality.

Nvidias work different then ATI.  I have had 1000% less problems with my nvidia then I have with the ATI.  I dont even game on my ATI because it sucks.

Nvidia looks better.  WHen you put a side by side comparison of the games.  My nvidia looks so much tighter.

And I get better fps and better affects on my nvidia (shadowing etc).

ATI is just bad and I would be upset if you spent your money on one.   Just trying to help you out.

I have had better experience with ati cards so far. With the 9600-9800(ati) vs. 5200-5900(nvidia), the ati card series will own the nvidia cards, the geforce 5s were a bad series, look at pc gamer or CGW- they both recommed ati cards over nvidia. However, with the Nvidia 6800 v. ati x800 xt, nvidia will probaly win that match up.

Ok but which of the following videocards is better?

    1.- Radeon 9600 XT

2.- Radeon ALL IN WONDER 9600

Both cost $200image, i dont know which should i buy

  • DerfelCadarnDerfelCadarn Member Posts: 875
Those are crazy prices, but I have to remind myself that mexico. Anyway, if you want to use your card for watchinghooking up to TVs or making a TIVO station go with the radeon aiw 9600, if your just into gaming go with the 9600 xt.
