In an attempt to turn this thread into something relatively interesting, I'll continue onto something else.

So, has the WoW "fad" turned around and kicked it in the ass?  It seems like now it's a "fad" for the WoW noobs themselves to not like WoW.  You see posts all the time (not this one) saying "w0w sux ballz wARhemmr ro0lz".  And these are ALL most likely WoW noobs who should probably just stay in WoW and keep away from other MMOs.

    Just a random thought...

i totally see where ur coming from but i have to say most of the time i feel its pretty much WoW VS all other mmos...i mean i never see anyone playing other popular mmos defending WoW and its probably because most feel like WoW destroyed the mmo community and turned it into a fad-like aim...i think wow is great and so are other mmos. The shear size and fanbase for WoW is a lot compared to most on the market and when there is a mmo that comes out (like WAR) people seem to band together and try to take out the top dog. Either way im just going with the flow. i like wow and ive played it for 4 years. If war is really awesome ill bring my old ass comp and play it on low requirments..but anyway wooo

The only thing I can see WAR doing is further depleting the already nearly empty  PVP servers in WoW, and then they're going to get to WAR and realize that you have to mostly group to accomplish anything will send some of those people back to WoW. Those who enjoy doing BGs as a group endeavor will stay and enjoy the RVR. If you enjoy RP, or PVE, or raiding then WAR most likely isn't the game for you. WAR won't kick anyone's @$$

Well reading the reports of "boring slow and badly animated WAR  PvP fights" from this weekend (seen in the WAR forums today ), there is a rather big chance that Wow PvP will own 2009 like it did in the 4 previous years.

I'll check it once again out on sunday and monday to know for sure as Europe is the the ugly baby of Mythic I suppose.

So fingers crossed for the WAR fanboys.

But I wonder : if they worked hard for 3 years and a week before launch they still don't have it right in the PvP animation and responsiveness department, could they redo it in 10 days now ???

Nearly empty PvP servers?  It's all relative.  The lowest population realms have at least 1000 active players. Of course the higher population realms have over 30,000 active players - dozens more have 20,000 characters.

Certainly not empty, for most other MMORPGs those "empty" realms are probably high population.

Also it's not about WAR being more PvP themed or not.  It will have to actually be a good quality game and release, and that remains to be seen.  Archlord is PvP themed, and that game is shit.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

I never thought I would go back to WoW from Aoc but I did it last night. Speechless I am, I feel at home again with wow, alot I can get over but the game is poslished and has content and production values no other game can compete with.

The new expansion based on the videos look epic as hell to me. Anyways my two cents. Once the WoW movie hits theaters its even more bad news for other mmo developers. Blizzard knows what there doing. The flying vehicles looks pretty fun also. Anyways I am going where the game works, has plenty of content, and all its features are availble, oh and it doesnt hurt that the game runs like liquid with out any instancing.

Just my two cents, glad to be a WoW fan boy again.

I have always liked WoW, but after playing it for years it gets kind of boring.  I've played loads of other games and have liked only a few as much as I liked  WoW.  Never have I found it necessary to praise one and bash another.  Depending on my mood, I will switch games like EQ2, WoW, EVE, L2, etc, etc.  I plan on adding WAR to my list.  If I like WAR better, great.  If not, w/e.  I just don't understand why people go out of their way to make sure others know that they think one game is great and another one sucks.  It's a waste of time, energy, intelligence and forum space.

Apart from PVP, It is widely known that LOTRO far surpasses any current MMO in regards to updates and content! As for production values, there was not much choice back when WOW was released so it was the obvious choice (and dare I say it, damn brilliant in its day)

But you state exactly why people still play, "they feel at home" people don't like change, forgetting everything you have worked hard for for years - just to put it aside to relearn and Aquire.

The phenomenon of WOW's past is destroying many other games that far excel it in everyway.

WAR combat looks about the same as WOW combat, which is boring and easy.

I can't wait for a game that you kids actually have to out play me in combat to win, not just que up a set of hotkeys and kick back relaxing.

Combat in these games is a joke.  Even AoC, who has a somewhat improved combat system is simple and boring.  There is no real risk/reward.

WAR and WOW are just examples of how this genre has entered recession.  Hopefully games like Fallen Earth and Darkfall can help fix the problems that these lazy developers have created.

    Agree

You pointed out the very reason I don't play PvP.

Please for the love of god let Darkfall give players a point of being good  its far more rewarding, and no excuses!

I believe that WAR will be better game than WoW. I doubt it will kick WoW's ass in subs or sales though.

  • GurtelroseGurtelrose Member Posts: 191

And I love the mindless WoW Fanboys that want WAR to fail.

I hope War turns out to be a good game, if it does, hell I might even buy a copy and play the damn thing. But these bashing posters from both sides of the fence gets old. I don't care if WoW or War toots your whistle.

It's hard to predict the success of a game prior to launch but cutting content in order to launch on scedule is never a good sign.

Time will tell if WAR rocks or not.
