Is MMORPG's a dieing breed?

Just a question for all you MMO'ers.

Are MMO's today dieing off faster than they are released?

sarcasm welcome :P

It seems to me like these companies SOE, FUNCOM ect. are throwing out alot of crap. There target age is around 15-17 and its a pay to play most of the time, doesnt really make much sense. I hope that there will soon come a company or individual that will revive this to its former glory!

ect. pre-Cu SWG (not trying to start that debate) or its predicesor Everquest 1<-:)

what im noticing is all these Companys who make their careers off MMOs, turn out more crap then indy developers and other developers who havent gotten their rep from MMORPGs. MMOGs are not even close to dieing. Although you can expect a slow down on MMOGs being released after Bethesda, Bioware, and Blizzard release their MMORPGS. Because by then we will have 3+ sanbox games on the market and a huge selection of MMORPGs.

    They're not dieing

but they are copying each other, and releasing bugged up the ass games.

I think what you're looking for is the term "imbreeding".  They keep screwing their cousin and the kids that come out of this union are corsseyed and can't walk straight.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Tell that to the SWG Devs.

    Yes..

Not sure what the answer is but SWG's answer was not it. They ruined the best game out there,

EVE is close but the time spent for PVP is just not worth it.

I am hoping for some game to come out that can meld pvp with casual play as EVE does but make it worth the time. Need socializing in the game like SWG had. They used to force players to interact.

The old games seemed to me to be games that you wanted to build your character up where you were important in your guild/friend/server however you want to be known. The new stuff is a single player game in a multiplayer world.

Nowadays people have more games to choose from. You don't like a game? Ok, go ahead and try another one. There werent many alternatives when UO or DAoC were released, so people remained there, even if there were bugs, lousy customer support, etc.

How many good staff can there be out there? Half the problem is probably that its all the same staff working on the projects and keeping the same methods.
