I've heard different opinions which varies vastly about the zone size in WAR, one where they insinst in every zone being bigger than The Barren's in WoW, and another that they are much smaller in those in WoW.
Can anyone make it clear which one is correct?

The thing about zone size at least in my opinion which i only have experience in Ekrund (Dwarf starter area). Is that zone size does not matter, you are not forced to trudge long distances to complete quests or turn things in. With the scenarios or pvp instances the run to get into the action is much less than "that other game".
Point: WAR puts you in the action and keeps you there.
Do you want to say that zone size is smaller in WAR, or what?

Yes i think they are smaller but again you dont notice it, because there is so much to do that will keep you moving foward. No back-tracking like in your example of the barrens.
I see, too bad. After all I've heard of people saying that the zones would be huge. Where do all these lies originate from?

The zones may be huge, like i said i only saw up to the end of Ekrund lvls 1-8, and the Gates of Ekrund scenario. Thing is why would you want huge color-less zones like the barrens? As i was making my way through ekrund there were explosions everywhere and plenty of "clickables" that gave the environment a good immersive-ness.
the answer is "both". Early zones are fairly small (typical starter locations which require less travel). However, later on the zones get quite large. Comparing to barrens is a bit misleading though since Barrens is probably the worst zone ever created in any MMO. It's the typcial "Screw you Horder - should have rolled alliance instead" design that plagued WoW since day one. I never want to see a zone the size of Barrens again - or better if they create one, how about actually fill it with content and not miles of running just to get to the next quest?
Dunno, guess it is my taste. I like to get the feel of being placed in a huge and spacy world.

Well it is called WORLD of warcraft...whille warhammer is just online :P
I see. Yes, can agree with that Barrens was a pretty boring place. It was one of the reasons why it made me quit for the first time. I didn't even make it to lv20, lmao.
Well, let't take a Tier as an example instead. If you count every zones in a tier, it would become pretty damn big, wouldn't it? However, from the maps I've seen, it seems like the road that connect to the next zone is surrounded by mountains which destroys the "huge" feeling.

Well then WAR is good for you.
You are dropped in a huge world that you actually feel like you are making a difference. Yes the zones are large but they are filled with good content (Though they should fix some of the PQ's).
Ahh the immersion factor or ----> Alot of useless space (WoW does have alot of this)
Alot of people have different tastes on this subject.
I remember hiking thru barrens and couldnt wait to get a mount to get thru it faster than using the flight paths. And even if you used the flight paths, you still had alot of downtime getting to the area you needed to be at to kill you 'X' amount of NPCs.
To me, WAR is constant fighting and something to do in any area of the game. So if you are looking to chill and dance in a middle of nowhere, well WAR may not be your cup of tea.
hmmm not sure about that. I mean they use roads to connect "zones" although transition is absolutely flawless and unless you actually look at your map you won't even notice when you hit another "zone". Many zones have multiple access points and you "can" come across many mountains as well (just needs some skillfull jumping and humping rock ).
I WAR has less travel but I aslo think it has more "meaningful" travel (e.g.: running through contested teritory). I'm not a big fan of travel just for the sake of killing time.
It's really difficult due in part to the fact that every map is more or less split in half, with one side being Order and the other Destruction.
Also, each tier is a single zone even though that zone may be split between two or more maps. The tier 1 zones, for example, are spread over two maps and your course through the map will be a winding one.
If you follow the road from your starting point to where you finally cross into the tier 2 zone, you will probably have traveled about the same distance as it takes to get from the Great Lift to Ashenvale. But that entire distance is lined with a lot of content. So much, in fact, that if you do your quests along the way you will have reached level 10 and still not have done everything in the zone. And that's just one race's content.
From what I've read and seen, the tier 2 zones are maybe 50% larger than the tier 1 zones. The tier 3 zones are supposed to be larger still, and the tier 4 zones are larger yet.
Thanks for the replies. I think... think that I have a general idea of how it will be like. Will have to wait until I get to try the game.
