Foreigners in Korea can't play

So I'm from Canada but over in Korea until at least next summer. I got an email from gamespot telling me the open beta was open so I went to try it out.

I found out the "international" english version is region locked. Korea being on its blacklist. Why? Because Korea has a localized version. Understandable, but also in Korean...maybe I can work with that. However I couldn't even sign up for it if I wanted to.

For those unfamiliar with Korean internet sites, almost every site requires you to use your citizen ID number which it verifies your name against to ensure you are who you say you are to make an account. Now foreigners who are here more than 90 days can apply for and get an alien registration number which is similar, but  most websites don't support this (name is longer, different database of numbers, etc) Perfect World Korea doesn't support this. So its completely impossible for me to sign up here even if I wanted to wade through the korean.

I sent an email to PW international and they have no solution for this. Shortly there after the account I had one of my friends in Canada make for me "disappeared", even though I sent the question with an unrelated email. A unique situation, but I think some common sense would have to come in to play here and I can't imagine perfect world Korea being that upset about someone who can't even sign up for their game playing the international version.
