No fast travel through the mines of Moria

I just read how there will be no fast traveling to farther points in the mines, meaning you literally have to go through the whole mines to get to the elven area of Lothlorien. To me this makes the whole damn expansion sound amazing, because it will really be a true "Dungeon". Whats your thoughts ladies and gents?

hmmm... the maps from PAX show stables, so it seems like there will be fast travel.

I like the idea of not having a swift travel to these points.

I honestly find it hard to believe that there won't be any swift travel. A lot of people who play this game log in for 1-2 hours at a time and mess around (casual players)... they won't be logging in if it's gonna take an hour to travel to different locations... I predict major whining if this holds true.

Judging from the maps, there seems to be a number of horse-heads throughout Moria. If they are not fast travel, well, they'll at least carry you monster-free through most of the map it seems, but yeah, it'll probably take quite some time considering the size of the area. (travel in this game, at first, is an experience. it gets tiresome after a while though, when lots of your time is spent traveling. realism in this area is a joke, and a waste of time. would have been better spent in making combat more realistic or some such)

I imagine you're probably jumping to conclusions and I bet like other areas in the game fast travel will be tied somehow into factions. There are stables so that would denote there should be fast travel at some point.

The fact that there are stables makes me think Moria will suck.  I just...I....*sigh*

    Stables.  In Moria.

Well, they aren't for horses. It will be for some other unrealistic form of travel, like a mine cart (which would make it quite lame, so hopefully it won't be a mine cart). Anyways, it will be interesting to see what form of travel it would be.

They have already showed them. They are a Ram/Yak like creature that will only be used in the mines for rentable mounts. You won't be able to summon your horse inside. Look in my moria preview thread to see them.

    Yeah, I agree.

However, I've been able to come to terms with it because of this:

The players enter when the dwarves are trying to take Moria back. it's not my dream of stealing into the inky blackness and exploring however I like, finding danger and adventure.

It is part of the story and makes sense. So "no" we don't get to experience the same type of adventure that the original fellowship experienced (which is kind of what I wanted) but we do get to experience a page in Moria's history.

I had read it on the forums that the understanding was that the horse will take you into the smaller sections of the map but not all the way to large other areas. Like the Great delving picture shows two stables in the whole area, so you would not be able to take a great delving area horse to another area. Though new pictures have cropped up that now quell my original post, but it is still uncertian.

I do not think it would be a mistake to retract the stables that are in Moria. No mounts at all would be fine with me. If even Bill, the brave little pony, would not go in there, then there is no need for any mounts.

    *just a thought*

     This thread is comical.

Include travel mounts:  You're breaking lore...lame!

Exclude travel mounts:  WTF?  You mean I have to walk everywhere?!

    People are never happy.

Well, I don't think adding mounts of some sort would be breaking lore because Moria was a city.

However, remember that there are people out there, myself included, who enjoy the idea of integrity to original source material. So when players bring up the lore card it isn't just because they are being prissy. They enjoy the idea of playing in the world that was created, not generic fantasy world #7.

But you are right, sometimes people are never happy.

Of course everyone isn't going to be happy it's not like the exact same person is arguing the point against himself, different people will have differing opinions is all. But I have to say what does travel time actually have to do with lore? I didn't see them go to the bathroom either but I am petty certain that the entire fellowship had to go atleast once, for that matter I'm fairly cetrtain they actually did travel places I wasn't made aware of since in the movies alone they walked a whole damn continent in 8 hours tops.

I think not having swift travel would be a pain but it isn't anything game breaking for me just don't see any reason why they wouldn't do it though.

Okay, as is usual, someone has already answered correctly about the mounts but nobody listens and everyone goes on argueing mote points!  Hehe.

Just to clear this up for you, there are no horses in Moria (at least there will be none when it is first released, they might add them later).  So you cannot use your mount whilst in the mines.

As to the horse's head icon on the maps?  And to answer the question (again) about swift travel?

Yes there will be.  It takes the form of some ghostly yak/cow like creature, which I do not remember the name off.  These act like stables do in the above ground.

    Hope that helps.

  • its one of those ideas that sounds cool but would have terrible consequences in practice.

  • CartographyCartography Member UncommonPosts: 331

These look pretty lame if you ask me, and its just another rep grind to be able to get one... how original.

My preferences: no fast travel for Moria. I don't think of travel as a "time sink" though I respect that opinion.

One idea for future expansions that cover large terrains, and I hope they have already done it in Moria:

As the terrain covered can be huge, make something for both preferences:

    1. Make part of the terrain "Old Forest" like, with no map, no fast move and no horses.

    2. Make other part of the terrain (the biggest part) "standard" with map, fast travel, and the weirdest/ coolest/ standardest mounts you can think about.

And I won't go into more details, as I already have done it in another thread about places to see in future expansions.

PS: sorry for any misspellings, I'm Spanish.

That's good for your health. You stretch your legs, go to the toilet, blink a couple hundred extra times, then go back to play...

I see no time waster here.
