Anyone else having massive problems with the Automatic Updater?

I decided to come back to AOC to see if things have improved, so I open the icon and the program scans my computer and determines that I need to download 900MB of patches since I left (wow-- evidence of major problems?).  Anway, the patched downloads about 1-5 MBs and then "freezes".  I have to open windows explorer and actually STOP the process because if you double-click the desktop icon it says "you can not have to instances of Updater working."  I have rebooted a number of times and that doesn't solve the problem.  My internet speed is not the problem-- I am getting about 9MB per second download speed and no other games have problems patching or playing.

There appears to be some bug in their patcher were it just times out.  Anyone else have this problem?

    The updater froze with me continually for days.  When it froze the the estimated time for completion shot up to 60, 70, 80 hours (like the swg patcher does for me now....dammit).  Out of frustration I reinstalled vista and with absolutely no other software installed I reinstalled AoC.  So I had vista 64 and AoC....thats it.....on my hard drive and the updater still froze.  I gave the patcher and client all permissions, disabled UAC, disabled firewall, did every  tweak and temporary fix I knew to do (and was suggested to try) without success.

    I noticed the patcher kept hanging at a shader.bin file (I think thats what it was or maybe it was shader.cfg) and someone in the official forum posted a link to the latest shader.bin file.  I downloaded it, moved it to the AoC folder, replacing the old file and bam!  I was in game.  The updater completed normally.  I believe some of these AoC discs are being released with faulty / buggy clients as lots of people at the time were complaining about the patcher freezing and dowloading the same files over and over.

    I'm happy to say I have since quit but that new shader file helped me.  Determine what file the updater is freezing with and ask someone to post a new one.  Hopefully that will help.

    You could also try going into the game file location on your hard drive and bringing up ;

    After a patch I always run the verify and the repair, after pressing on remember to tick the tick box next, then try launching the game again.

    Good luck.
