Hmmm, after reading the post by Gnomexxx, I was encouraged to try a goblin/dwarf to see how the graphics looked in that starting area. He had stated that they were far better than the DE/HE area and seeing that thats all I had mainly played, I was curious to see how better the shadowing was in the greenskin area. Also, some people seem to think the graphics leave a lot to be desired, and others think they look great. So I created a greenskin and logged in, and blam, they still look very lifeless (no shadows).
Also, this is not a question of art quality or texture quality, only really a shadowing issue.
So heres the question...
How does your shading look and what type of card (or modifications) do you have?
For me, I am running on a 9700m (laptop) with 512m. I have the graphics set to high quality. I only see a small feint shadow on my character/ground, but NOTHING else. Walking up to a torch displays NO shadowing on anything, not even me.
How about you all? is this a card issue not being supported yet or a game engine issue? What are your graphics like and what card do you use?

Try going under the custom tab you may not have some settings checked and just selecting high quality doesn't automatically adjust some of these settings.
All boxes are checked or maxed out
Not sure what the problem is then, mine renders shadows very well. Are there no shadows at all ( just to clarify so I can better understand)?
screenshots will help immensly
How to host screenshots :
go to imageshack.us/ and click browse and find the file you want to host, then click "host it"
You will be taken to a new page scroll down which gives you a "Direct Link" to the image. Copy this link.
Create a new post and at the toolbar above click on "insert/edit image" (image looks like 2 mountains with the sun in the top right)
Then paste the link into the address location and click ok.
Post that screenshot
The only shadow in the entire world is a feint shadow on the ground below my character cast by the sun location. None else. This is why some are complaining that the graphics suck. I think we are seeing to different looks. Yours seems to be working great, and mine which seems to be ehhh. any chance you want to assist me with this? We both could create a greenskin, and in the very beginning spot, take a screenshot of the torch and wood wall (with a couple NPCS) and post them. then we can compare what we are seeing.
Forgive me, but how do I post a screenshot? I have one ready to show, but cant figure out how
just logged on and it patched..... shadows under mobs, npc's, and other pc's but not my character. They may have the advanced shadows disabled to an extent for PW. I don't know.
Here's a screen from the first PW before they had the custom tab in game. High Quality and there are good shadows. So maybe they did disable them or it's a game issue.
you have to upload it first through your profile.
Grrr. I got the pic added to the "photos" area in MMORPG, but cant seem to link it into this thread. You can go there though to see the screenshot of how it looks on FULL with a highend machine on my comp. something is definately wrong here. even though your pic didnt have many shadow areas, I can still see shadowing on the right edge mountain and your chars shadow is FAR more defined than the one I would see during the day.
Yeah that's how it looked when I logged in a few mins ago. Nothing like the screen I posted. I'd bug it just incase it might not be intentional on their part.
Well I don't see a shadow on the ground but there is certainly lighting effects in that picture
Explain further...
Other than a general world light, there are no effects. No flickering, no shadows cast, no brighter because of the torch, nothing.
EDIT: I can see how you think there are lighting effects on the log wall, as the opposite side appears to be just a tad darker than the lit side, but if thats what they call lighting effects, then WOW does this need to jump into the 2008 gaming world.
The washed out terrain textures look horrible.

That Warstompa seems to have directional lighting on it. Shadowing on the arch of the back and behind the arm relative to the torch.
Can't commnet on flickering or whether it changes when moved.
The ting I notice is cochrans screen shot has a real shadow on the ground. Some other photos just have a sort of circular fuzz at the feet not just Az2002ro's picture that pciture from Narshe in the photos section does it too.
Seems like something funny is going on.
