Latest news from GOa on WAr-Europe

"Early this morning we told you that we were working on our database servers and that we would update you with more information as we had it. Now we can tell you that the situation is as follows:

We have processed all the information from yesterday, all the new signups from yesterday have been processed and you should have received your validation email, while the database server is down however it will not be possible to follow the link to validate your account.

We have brought down our database servers to reconfigure it as we explained to you previously. Currently we are in the process of finalising the software changes and we expect to be able to update you on the progress of this at around Noon CET today.

Once again, we are sorry for the disappointment and we ask for your patience for just a little longer."

MarK Jacobs is not right in evaluation GOA.

Each and every player who had an experience with GOa had predicted doom fall with the beta launch.

Which retard company launches beta registration 5 hours before beta launch and how the hell did they expect they will deal with the 500K+users beta keys that were handed out as candies

Common sense would be to set up registration atleast 1 month ago and ease out the process. On top of all a crappy website which is not secure managed in flash .

Mark would obiviously want to do some HR repair exercise cause the game is getting a bad name because of GOA.

Personally the whole management for the launch should be fired. And what an apology by the CEO of GOA

" I rarely address players directly" WTF is he doing a favor by addressing us.I have worked in companies where CEO on a day to day basis interact with there customers down the line.

I felt hs whole so called apology was filled with arrogance.

Now personally threatening is not acceptable but in this case, with 500K + players left cheated on , not propely communicated , not updated , frustated what did they expect garlands.

Mark better learn fast and act fast .If these buffons do not act fast and in an organised manner many of teh users will not turn back for retail or expansion. He can kiss $ goodbye.

I personally have setup an American beta client also If I dont have any lag issue I will go on Amercian servers Hell With GOA

I was up at 4 am Uk Time (Ramadan) at which point i manager to input the beta ket for my account and patch the updater. As i logged in ALL SERVERS were up.

15 Minutes later the error "Region Is Down"  was showed in chat message and was instantly taken to the login screen. This happened again for 3 different servers i tried until eventually one server was left. At 5:30 AM that server was the french server you still see online.

Alrighty let's have a little post mortem on the situation.

Firstly let's get the obvious stuff out of the way. Yesterday was in no way, shape or form a success. A lot of things went very wrong. Funnily enough however they didn't go wrong in the way most people thought they would or for the reasons that were being thrown around.

The website and our entire platform got hammered yesterday - which we expected. We knew how many open beta keys we'd given away and what sort of traffic to expect as a result. We got a lot more than we were expecting and yet the platform held up, the site slowed down (which was inevitable with the sheer volume of traffic, even a basic HTML page would have been slow under that onslaught) but everything stayed up. This is pretty much the big ray of sunshine that we took away, our datacentre took the onslaught and survived unscathed.

The account system broke. This wasn't down to the traffic (although that was a factor), nor the fact that the page was in Flash. There was a problem with our database server which didn't surface during testing. As you can read in the news, we have been working on this all night and we expect this to be resolved soon. Ultimately the system didn't work but we're glad we found the issue now in beta rather than before the headstart or live begins. Many of you criticised the decision to bring the account pages online the same day as the beta began but this was not the cause of the problems. While yesterday was a very painful day for us, there is a silver lining because it means that our headstart and live launch will be significantly more robust.

There was some miscommunication as well which falls entirely on us. The confusion over people with war-europe accounts not needing to create a new beta account was the main issue, other than that the team who were in the office yesterday worked very hard to keep you updated. Magnus and the other CMs who were working yesterday were in the office from 7:30am through to 3am this morning. During that time our teams were working on several different situations at once and the situation was often in a state of considerable flux. We had technical teams working on various solutions, management teams dealing with our partners and, for the most part, these people were busy fixing things rather than writing status reports that were likely to be out of date by the time they hit the CM team. Despite that, Magnus and the others posted what they had, when they had it both on the official news site and around the various fan forums.

Overall then, some things went right - not many to be sure and the important things certainly didn't. We made some mistakes, we expected many problems and we found some entirely different ones. We disappointed many of you by not letting you get into the open beta when we said you would and for that I am sorry. All of us are disappointed that we couldn't bring you the service you expected. I wasn't at work yesterday, Magnus was the man on the scene covering the situation, but I did keep a close eye on forums and was in contact with the guys in the office. A lot of what was said yesterday here and on other forums was entirely out of line. Of course you were disappointed and criticism is certainly warranted but frankly many of the posts made about the situation were borderline sociopathic. If having delayed access to a beta test really drives you to such depths of anger and fury then - and there is no polite way to put this - there is something wrong with you.

Today we have a lot of people at the office who are preparing to put in a long week after a long weekend to make things right. This isn't magically going to make yesterday alright but we are very much committed to making sure that you aren't disappointed again.

There is a problem currently with the servers, we're working with Mythic to get it fixed as it's something that affects all servers equally. There will be news about this up within a few minutes.

For me atleast its news, I thought they will be working on it overnight, I was wrong.

Wow... cool post from the English Community manager. So much action, so much drama. He first states that launching the account pages on the same day as open beta did not cause any problems with the open beta. lol

He then insults the player base by saying "there is something wrong with you". Common, sure even I got fed up with all the whine and name calling, but its not good when a community manager insults his potential playerbase. Many people just got in a rage after waiting days, weeks, months, years to play WAR. Many called GOA things in the heat of the moment, and to be honest GOA have much guilt in this with the bad communication that was shown yesterday.

There were practically no damage control or helpful communication during the whole day yesterday, when it finally got there it was much to late. The crowd got angry. And then the community manager goes out and say something stupid like this. Borderline sociopathic, lol! way to go Ian! You now how to treat your paying customers.

And then at last he insures us that we not gonna be dissapointed again. Oh yeah, the day after a epic failure(who we saw coming weeks ago) the whole playerbase gonna take him on his words, and dance around in a circle while holding hands and sing "Kumba ya my lord". www.youtube.com/watch

Well I cancelled my EU CE preorder after Ians post. I will wait a couple of months and see whats happening. If GOA doesnt shape up, I will go to the US servers. Maybe I will do that anyway. Sad about the CE stuff though. Oh well its only a damn game. I have more time to explore LotRO:Mines of Moria and play SPORE (I LOVE IT!) now anyway.

i may be wrong but i reckon ea/mythic have given GOA a massive ear bashing and all at goa are mega pissed off that they've been told off and blame it on the community slagging them... aww poor GOA how dare people be annoyed with them for screwing up. just because people have been slagging them off and stuff doesn't mean they can retort, the best thing they can do is keep their heads down and get this stuff fixed, yes many unuseful and insulting comments were made but people can flame all they want i think it's a mistake to try and make people feel like they've been unreasonable. just give us updates as often as possible and don't make personal comments if i were you GOA. again sorry for waffling... but i'm still bored waiting to be able to register my key :((

    you are right

instead of accepting there mistakes and getting on with the work they try to be oversmart assholes

Firts it was the CEO and his statement :Rarely do i address players directly" So WTF did he do us  favor by talking to us .

Secondly it was Ian the English community manager,Opening your webiste for beta registartions for 500K+ people before 5 hours of beta start is suicidal moron. You are an idiot is u didnt see these problems coming.

Had they tried this last week people would have been more sympathetic

Worse with GOA thsi was predictible there imcompetancies goes way back nothing new.

Dont blame teh people for venting there anger,
