Its kinda conflicting because although I *hope* they're nice people with families that don't really deserve to lose their jobs you do have to hope that they have other skills beyond programming and project management since they suck at both.

Just managed to register an account AGAIN on site with the SAME email add I am waiting for to verify yesterdays's cockup... I know I have not verified yesterdays yet as I stil have not recieved but you would think they have a record of that email otherwise everyone could use the same email..   so did I wait all day for nothing???

  • halteahaltea Member UncommonPosts: 95

the only thing you can do is wait and hope that the goa team is replaced by people able to walk and chew bubblegum at the same time

I feel for you guys.. i'm a closed beta player so I don't get these problems but you lot basically paid to be in the OB and deserve it way more than people like me do. I hope Mythic are giving GOA a lot of hastle because so far, Mark Jacobs is nothing but a liar.. he promised us the same quality of service as our NA counterparts and while GOA have had a good six months to get themselves sorted, it simply just isn't happening.

i wouldnt count on that, this is the last official word about it:

    I finally managed to register...

    lol..

    That took 24 hours...

Now I have to wait for the e-mail...

Maybe that'll take another 24 hours?

Oh well. I'm glad I managed to grab a free key from some website and didn't actually pay for this train wreck. At the same time, I'm also mad about all the people who paid for this and are now getting royally screwed over by GOA's epic failure. I don't think anyone expected it to be smooth sailing... but 24 hours... just to partially register?

It baffles me why Mythic decided to trust GOA with a task of this magnitude when it has already been proven that GOA was never able to handle the much smaller playerbase of DAOC at an acceptable level. They knew this could very well be as crazy as WoW was when it launched. Why the heck didn't they prepare better? Couldn't they have turned to EA for help? Or do they even care about the European playerbase?

The easiest part of an MMORPG is .... the registration website.

Millions of registration websites and Mythic picks the one that can't handle the "traffic".

How about handling operational MMO servers.....

I work for a mid sized ISP ( around 1.3 million clients ) in Europe , if i had the audacity to even propose to launch a critical service for a new project a couple of hours before it went LIVE my boss would fire me in the spot .... i dare not to imagine what he would do to me if i had the balls to actually try to pull this off.

what we wittnessed yesterday was a display of a complet lack of competence , we all knew GOA reputation , i suffered during the Dark days of Daoc ( pun intended ) . We all got promised that they changed , all would be better , then we warned them not to launch the account registration system on the same day as the server start , we got told to back off , that they knew what they were doing ... guess not .

After 10h of that brilliant show of technical expertise , MagnusK , had the gaud to post on Warhammer Alliance forums a Status thread where he joked about the key sentence of the millenia "equal its not identical" and had the balls to call the launch a sucess , later on that day those sentences got removed after Mark from Mythic rained hell on them .

To even mention that people are pissed about this its trying to call moderate rain to a class 5 tropical storm .

    /rant off

Ouh ... you missed the fine point on this , Mythic registration website works flawlessly , the US beta started untouched of problems , without a single hickup .

What got FUBAR'ed was GOA registration website for the EU comunity , who would have figured that a site launched 4 houres prior to the server launch would cause such a problem uh?

I logged in and authenticated my key. Took some time, but I got there. And then managed to patch, and launch the game, and play.

How? I went to the address on the front page (in the news about the 4 steps) in IE. I copied the url, closed IE, cleared the cache and cookies, opened it, pasted the URL and hit refresh until I got the square login box in the middle of the screen. Then logged in (which didnt always work, I had to repeat the above a few times), then entered my key, kept pressing "Validate" until I got the "Are you sure?" then kept pressing yes. I kept getting 414 errors over and over, but then I got an email saying I had done it... so, it was somehow hitting their database despite not giving me a confirmation on screen.

Few tricks - When getting 414 or 1103 error... stop. Pause, dont hit anything for like 20 seconds. Then try again. It seems to "lock" you out if you hit it straight away. Clear the cache and reload that page if you get the "Authentication server is down" message. Make sure you leave it to login and validate when you get the spinning box - its not crashed, its trying to navigate you a path.

Hope that helps someone out there.

Thanks for the advice, this sort of works but I just get a new error message telling me to check my internet connection after the spinning wheel goes around for a minute or 2.  Anything I can do to avoid this?

I didnt get this error. After the spinning wheel failed it always gave either the 414 (busy server), 1103 (general error caused by being busy) or the "Authentication servers are offline error". On the last one, I had to clear the cache and open IE again.

On FF and Chrome I couldnt get to any of those stages, only IE seemed to work, but it took alot of clicking.
