Some of you may watch news or not but know that the gulf coast had some unwelcomed visitors as of late.
Dolly Edouard Fay Gustov and now it looks like Ike wants to pay a visit as well.
While Some folks may have no clue why we live here it is part due to family other job and the area we are in the market is good in terms of cost of living housing and jobs.
However the flip side is the not knowing if or most certainly when the big one will come. As we get ready to face another one please keep our area in your good thoughts and for those that do prayers.
We wont know where till latter in the week or when. But at any rate be mindful some of us are dealing with real life big happenings and discussing politics isn't part of the energy we can deal with when another sureal reality may happen soon.. With that in mind some of our charities are hurting due to all the storms. Red Cross Salvation army catholic charites. If you have even a wee bit extra please consider sending 5 or 10 bucks to red cross salvation army ear marked huricanes......

I used to live in Houston and it would flood under just a few inches of heavy rain. Fortunately, I never experienced a substantial storm while I lived there, but I can only imagine the devastation a storm of Ike's magnitude could cause.
I am afraid that the weakening of Gustav might have lulled people into a false sense of security. Please take every precaution for personal safety.
I really hope everyone made it out of the Houston/Galveston area. Things are looking pretty grim.
hunckered down boarded up well stocked ,waiting tropical storm winds expected tomrow by tommrow evening sustained winds of 100 + . We expect power outages and of course wind damage .
Many stations ran out of gas store shelves were pretty empty at this point many are closing for tommrow's happening. In past times of disater walmart is the only choice after the storm passes. They are one of the few places that get stock back in quickly. Watching movies now since all the channels have news about local events and upcoming storm.
When we get service back will give yall an update on how we made out.
day 6 we have our power back it is spotty but there. I ventured out of our subdivision to walmart, Many shelves were bare. No meat fresh meat to be found they did have some vegatbles. Could not find paper towels paper plates ice water klenexx . Did land a carton of eggs which we held on to so it would not dissappear from the basket.
Tempers are getting frayed with lack of even basic services. A big story here was power crews were working in one neighborhood they had almost finished the restoration and they packed up and went to a very wealthy neigbhorood.
We see power cords being strung across the streets. From generators. Folks sharing what little they have so other folks could at least keep a fridge going.
The debry is not being picked up yet but normal trash cans are. We had mail service yesterday.
The news makes sure folks know it is getting back to normal. Well we have over 1.2 million folks without electrity. Stores cannot open, gas pumps can't pump. Schools cannot open without power. Fresh produce or meat is hard to come by. Though some resturants are begining to open the menus are very limited because of lack of gas. Delivers are not being made yet because of lack of gas.
Folks are conserned about the very basics here . Will i find i a loaf of bread today> Can i find juice ? Does anyone have milk>
There are some bright spots. Folks talking to each other in the neighborhood. Helping each other out. Helping clear trees out of road ways. Helping their neighborhoors clear there yard.
A new color is emerging jokingly called blue tarp city. ( tarps for the roofs) . Well todays serach is paper products ......
Keep us in your good thoughts folks
Nice to see some good news coming out of that area. It appears that the incidents of serious injury (or worse) were much lower than expected. I was worried when the reporters started talking about the high percentages of non-evacuees. It's demoralizing to lose everything you own in a disaster, but nothing remotely comparable to losing a friend or family member. Also, the rescue efforts during -and immediately following- the storm seem to have been very successful.
Has the flood water mostly subsided? The area I lived in Houston had nearly all power cables ran under ground. Providers won't be able to get power restored in some areas until it's mostly dried up. I'm sure they are fairly experienced with the flood recession proritization though.
Any FEMA presence? It's good to hear that the communities are working together, but with no ability or resources to get out of the city, and nothing readily available in the city, it'd be nice to hear that the necessities are being brought in.
Glad to hear you made it out alright. Stay positive and please keep us informed.
Fema came by thruday while i figured our family makes to much to qualify they did say they would help get my meds back and any that the pharmcy cannot get. They also stated they could most likely help replace my glasses that broke during the storm. We have in our area seen more of the red cross and salvation army brought us meals
So thank ful for that having something hot to eat that wasnt mres and or can soup. We did manage to get 2 trash cans and they are both full at the curve.......

Most memorable image from Ike i know of.
Well, considering the economic and political fuel we've been burning the past few days, I was actually surprised to see Ike make the world news last night. For anyone that missed it, Galveston was opened up to welcome back the evacuees. It looks like 75% of homes and businesses in Galveston are uninhabitable. Residents on the west side have been asked to "look and leave". Basically, search for anything salvageable, throw it in a truck, and then get out. Residents whose homes were protected by the sea wall are permitted to stay beyond the 6:00 curfew. Approximately 70% of the city is without power at this point, and no water or sewage is available.
Times are tight, and the future is uncertain, but please keep those suffering from these tragedies in your thoughts and prayers.
For those wondering about fema they said no. He also latter on called me and said they couldn't help me get my meds or glasses or vouchers for the clothing we lost due to roof /water happening.
Stores have closed due to ike as sign of the timesl Though some are trying to re stock and open back up
My health insuarnce company found a pharmacy outside my area that was albe to get my list together. So after 10 days was albe to resupply my meds.
The eye doc had has staff working in the parking lot of the facility i got an exam my drops (inflamation ) script with any luck glasses suposedly friday.
I managed to get out a bit yesterday and pick up some clothes for us.
Suppose to see insurance folks today . I figuer if we just get the roof done then we can deal wtih flooring.......
