Beta mistakes?

Do you think that maybe the devs being a kind of Indie developer will not take the sad old modern approach to beta and run a long beta and allow players to keep thier characters once they open the game. All this does is encourage players to power level chars and gain as much advantage as possible over newcomers. i played beta in a few games and even saw players leaving due to bugs haha!

Please use beta for testing purposes. Tell players that once the game is opened all characters will be whiped, this will encourage people to actually report bugs and actually test the game. It will also put everyone on an even keel once the game is released. Also i hope they dont have a early access for anyone either. it's a pvp game all start even on release please!

I think they would have to wipe characters becuase it would give players in Beta a Huge advatange once the game went live. In a sandbox game, any advanatge counts; extra skills, cash, equipment and landgrab.

The problem with this is that during beta there are exploits that are discovered, now it's fine to play around with these things in beta and report them, but any sort of advantage you could gain from bugs prior to launch really can't be allowed to carry through.

Maybe if there was a special server for carried beta characters only available to testers that would work, but people like to start on a pretty even keel.

They should do what they did for when EvE's beta came to an end.

For the last 2 days give everyone the best gear and ALL the skill then switch off any NPC police protection then teleport everyone to one are and say you have the skills and the gear...go have some end of beta fun and thanks for your support

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

I remember that and I thought they should do the same thing for Darkfall as well. That was a blast - had no idea what I was supposed to do but just shoot things with missiles in a BS (I had rockets on a tempest - lol)

Ya getting the head up on building castles and clan towns would be anoying to everyone else that didnt get into the beta. that would be pretty cool for the last days to be like that

Yes I would hope they have a character wipe before the game goes live as in most games, especially PvP centric ones it gives too much of an advantage to the Beta players. Lineage II didn't have a wipe after OB and there were a lot of players that came in at release that were quite surprised to see a lot of level 50's running around. This made for a lot of unneeded and unwanted heated debates on the forums from pissed off customers that just started a *new* game already at a serious disadvantage.

Even though it hasn't been officially stated...I would definitely expect them to wipe chars after beta.  I really don't see any possibility of them not doing this.

They have said the Beta will be for stress testing as the closed beta has now been running for ages. The only chance of a long Beta is major Issues.
