After nearly 4 years of play

Today I cancelled my 3 wow accounts. Having played the beta I see nothing that excites me, lich king has recycled too much and frankly does not bring a breath of fresh air to a game that is lacking on many levels.

I am not a war fan boy or any other as I currently have no other game to go to I guess I just feel let down by a company that has the resources to make 10 X-pacs with ALL new visuals and content, but choose to cheat the games player with old content, dusted off as new.

Wow, for me, has been a lot of fun but it could have been so much more, with all the resources at their disposal, blizzard has dropped the ball. I guess when you are working wow’s replacement, you don’t care what happens to wow, as you hope they will all jump ship.

Lich king will be the last major X-pac for wow, so I won’t tell people they should not play, as many still love the game, but me, I guess I just wanted that little bit more, and it never came.

memoir rarely seems to have anything positive to say, ignore him.

I agree WOTLK is too much recycled crap...

With all the money blizz is pulling out i would expect a small free x-pac every 6 months or so, but no they have toi wait almost 2 years and charge 40 or 50 bucks for it....

I also cancelled my wow account, i had high hopes for war but i will wait few weeks buying it to see if it turns into a AOC.

right now i am installing Civilization IV ...... nothing in the market worth playing right now

It's funny, I canceled my WoW account back in May and headed over to AoC; I played and tried to put up with it but didn't last more than 3 months.

I recently picked up every other MMO trial I hadn't tried before to give a shot, even older ones; I tried CoX (used to play before WoW), SWG (yes I know..), EQ2 and some other titles (almost gave Matrix Online a shot, but my sanity kicked in at some point).

Suffices to say, none of them grabbed my fancy and I'm back to WoW for lack of something to play in the evening. I am not excited about WotLK, I'm afraid of a rerun of TBC with recycled everything times 10 because it's back on Azeroth and Blizzard can basically play it even lazier than they did before.

Reports from WAR beta players sound relatively good, but after getting burned by Funcom earlier this year, I'll wait for this one to come out, settle down, user reviews (not e-zines, they're sell-outs) to pour out and then maybe give it a shot.

Wow what can you possibly do with 3 accounts you can't do with 1??!?!?!?

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

You seriously want an answer on that? :P

Probably the main reasons for people getting more then 1 account is dualboxing.

You could also use it for a another faction chatter =), there are people out there who wants to pay the fee each month for that XD

I am doing what I did when WoW vanilla got stale - having a break and coming back when tne x-pack is released. When I returned I was fresh, excited and raring to go and had none of the bitterness that raid-tired players experienced when TBC came out and rendered all their hard-earned gear worthless. I am doing the same with WotlK and in the mean time discovering new games in the singleplayer RPG genre like dungeon siege 2, mass effect and baldur's gate. I'm having a blast, and looking forward to WotlK.

WoW is in the bad position of being too successful.

They have 10.9M subscribers (5M in NA and Europe)

It's not like they can drastically change gameplay with that many customers paying them every month.

There are a bunch of things that will make the game feel different...  multi-player mounts, Seige weapons, the focus on 10 man raids (many more of them).

But it is difficult.. there are just too many people who enjoy playing for  them to really shake up the box.

I'm giving the War beta a shot right now, but it's not looking good for switching.  The game offers a few new nice ideas (Tome of Knowledge, Public Quests, Zone control, etc), but the combat isn't quite up to snuff yet with WoW.  Also I was kinda surprised that the graphics really don't look any better than WoW's.  For all the talk that WoW needs to have a graphics update, what does that say about War's graphics, coming out 4 years later?  The Beta also seems to have a pretty nasty memory leak because I can only play for about 30 to 60 minutes before I start noticing a pretty serious performance hit.  They'll probably have that fixed by release, but sometimes these things have a way of hanging around.

Plus some of the stuff that War is adding, Blizzard is offsetting a bit with changes of their own in the expansion which makes it an even tougher switch.  Achievements are Blizzard's answer to the ToK, etc.

There's nothing wrong with War, but I still don't think it's better than WoW.  Now if you are bored with WoW especially the PvP side, then War might be a great for you, but if you are enjoying WoW, I see no particular reason to switch at the moment.

no offence mate but your still in the wow is amazing phase, you need to give other games a proper chance and not just think wow wow wow, i played wow alot and yeah it was a great game, but some of the features are just not up to par. and with the new expansion its getting more obvious that there worried about their lifespan. i honestly can see this game going like SWG did eventually.

why bother with a graphics update the main sucess of wow was the fact that it can run on the crappiest of systems even a generic 32mb graphics card can run the game. thats whats makes it so easy to play and so sucessful. appealing to the masses.

war's graphics are abit better but not too high and it can still run on lower performance machines. its all business. get the biggest share of the market as possible.

No offense taken, but I am giving it a proper chance.  I've been playing the open beta for the last 2 days.  I've only got 2 characters to around level 7, but still I think I have a pretty good handle on the game.  I'm sure that there's still a lot of content to get to, but I don't really think it will be significantly different from what I've been doing so far other than maybe the RvR stuff.  I've only scratched the surface on professions, I'd like to venture into that some.  I also need to see Tier 2 RvR which everyone seems to be saying I need to get to.  I'm getting there.

I've been in the same state for the last 4 years.  When someone comes out with something better, I'll be first in line to purchase it.  Until then I'll stick with what I know works.  I've tried City of Heroes/Villians,  LoTRO, Tabula Rasa, Guild Wars and now War.  All of them have been different from WoW, but none of them have been better than WoW.  I want better before I switch, not just different.

3 accounts X 4 years is a massive amount of gameplay, maybe you burnt yourself out, leave for a bit and come back later, is my advice.

Actually I've been playing the beta for 5 days straight and I'm probably going to buy the game.  Yeah, that's right I'm probably going to purchase Warhammer.

Now that doesn't mean I'm giving up on WoW.  I'm going to be buying the expansion, but this will be a nice diversion until WoTLK is released.  Of all the post WoW MMO's I've played, this one is the best.

I couldnt get past the trial of this game.  After playing everquest a long time ago this game was just a clone of it, minus the complexity and difficulty.  Child like graphics and child like attitude of the players was another turnoff.  Props to you if you like this game, its just not for me.  I need complexity and difficulty, or at least a great pvp system, this game had neither.

I laugh when i see what the new expansion offers. Lucky blizzard, they have a community who will spend money on anything they turn out now.

Just in case there is any confusion this isnt a troll post, its a review.  Take it for what its worth the game just isnt for me for the above stated reasons.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I've changed my mind about purchasing War again.  Seeing as how WoTLK is now scheduled to release Nov 13 and the player test realm has been opened up to try some of the new stuff being implemented, I think I'll wait for the expansion.  I have enjoyed some of my time in the War open beta, but I've also found some things annoying and troublesome.  I still think it will do at least as well as LoTRO has done, but don't think it will do much better.  It's the best of the MMO's that have been released since WoW, but as long as WoW keeps upgrading themselves to match what the competition is doing, I don't see any change in the near future in the MMO fantasy genre.  Something special is going to have to come along to changes things and I still haven't seen it.

That sentence made me LOL irl. I got to level 20 in OB and the game play was way different (in a good way) then it was at level 7. PQs get more challenging, Gear gets alot better, and so does RvR. Using siege weapons on a keep made me feel like a kid again playing mario brothers for the first time. It's its own little mini game.

You really didn't get a feel for War only getting to level 7. At level 40 you'll have upwards of 30-40 skills to use depending on your class. And thats excluding Renown Tactics, Morale abilities and the tactics involved in pvp combat.

Ok, well I've made it to level 10 now on a couple different characters and gotten my first morale abilities and have seen no difference than at level 7.  Yes you are going to have more skills and abilities the higher you go which changes things a bit, but it  doesn't change the gameplay fundamentally.  I've not encountered siege weapons and keeps, I'll give you that, but other than that nothing you have mentioned sounds fundamentally different.

First I'd like to say that I really appreciate posters like you. You are very obviously a big fan of WoW, which is awesome for you and I say more power to you, but you aren't some mindless fanboy coming here and bashing every other game just to do it. You've given a very honest opinion, and even admitted to the amount of play time put in to WAR which is cool. So yeah, keep not being crazy and help make MMORPG.com forums not as insane.

That said I personally feel the exact opposite of you in regards to WAR and WoW. WoW does nothing for me because I personally hate the way the game is made, basically  a time sink. Whereas I can play WAR for as little or as long as I want and always feel like I did something fun and meaningful. Again though, thats just me, and I did play WoW for about 4 months and had a decent time.

To the OP I suggest giving the DDO 10 day trial a shot as I also sub to that and its hella fun.

To the OP I suggest giving the DDO 10 day trial a shot as I also sub to that and its hella fun.

Thank you, I appreciate that and I appreciate the fact you see that I AM giving the game a fair shot.  It's a good game and I'm sure that many will enjoy it.  Not everyone will, just like not everyone likes WoW.

I like WoW, and Death Knight and some of the new things in WotLK look good but....really its....the same game. It would be nice if there were something better than WoW that I can find but....well thats another problem. I can't find a game I like more than WoW. I plan on trying VG when the trial island download is ready.

The DK class doesn't look good at all in beta at the moment :|
