Yeah, I'm tired of point and click, wait for it to die battle systems. While most games have a few things the player can do to change the outcome of the battle, the battles get boring quickly.
Anything to keep me on my toes a little during the fighting... although I will kinda miss being able to easily eat dinner while fighting something...
A few things will be really nice. The best one so far is the fact that there is a rotating AI. So each new spawn that pops up might be (for example) asleep, or a rampaging whacko with a deathwish, or just going to run away screaming for help. Not a different type of mob, but the exact same type with AI changes.
You could easily play an area several times, and other than learning the areas that provide the best cover, not really know whats going to happen due to the mobs changing behavior. It's the closest anyone's come to the pvp experience that everyone really wants to experience from a non-pvp area.
Just wish I knew how many possible combinations there were. I'm sure we'll find out soon™ ...just not soon enough. Can't wait to try this one out.
I can just imaging laying down some suppressing fire and the AI won't run out into the open and be shot. So your buddies can get to a better position. then it's your turn and one of the AI comes out to toss a grenade into your buddies new hiding spot.
Honestly i cannot wait for this game. just imagining how awesome the combat in this game is going to be with using cover and actual strategy to take down mobs. i really hope i get a beta invite sometime in the next few months.
"you know that whole 'we come in peace business.' Bite me!"
Theres nothing tactical about the combat in this game, dont fool yourself.
I've seen the game being played. I got to go into the office and watched a team of developers play (so no NDA violation here). They were very friendly and happy to show me the game.
I will tell you that the game plays great. It's smooth, very detailed and yes, very tactical. I was first impressed with the graphics, but the gameplay was fantastic. They've definitely done a great job with creating something different and very entertaining.
I can't speak to the story or the min-games, because I only watched for about 10 minutes. But, from what I saw, it was very impressive.
But, Bugzonlsd, when you say that the combat isn't tactical, you are completely wrong and have NO experience to say otherwise. A player can't just stand there and blast away, they'll die quickly (saw it for myself). You must find cover and think about how to go after your target. Of course, if you still don't think the combat is tactical after you play, all the better for those of us who will play against you.

"Bugzonlsd" <----- not worried. Long posts = wasted time. NDA? ....FTP! See you inside.
Sorry but I don't buy that you were or are in beta friend. Why would you make something like that up anyway? I'm just curious why people do that sort of thing.
This game is point and click to a degree but you can WASD move to cover. This based on what I've read and the videos I have seen. In other words, if you have a machine gun, click your opponent and you continuously fire away. You will just autofire until he is dead. During that time you can trigger skills, etc.

try the game! when it get out in the stores. for those who likes mmo's of almost every kind this is a game for you... (RTS has no guarantees) unfortunaly i am a RTS fan so i am beta'ing til its done:)
Yeah, on of the big things I have been looking for is a game that actually treats combat as a real thing where you have to work with tactics and team communciations to get something done. Hard to do when not many are on the server probably but sounds like alot of folks are really wanting to try this game out. Hope it is good though, can't wait to get a beta key soon for it.
LOL I say LOL. Click the enemy, click the "shoot" button. Go make a sandwich, come back and you have won. How is that tactical? Hell even if you didn't "win" there is zero death penalty so who cares.
Worst and most boring combat system I have ever seen. makes Tabula Rasa look like the hit of the century. Got my beta key through TenTonHammer btw in case your wondering how I know these things.
If you hate the game do you wana spread teh hate and give me your beta key? If the game sucks as much as u say i cant imagine you would wana hang on to it
if ignorance is bliss then may all happiness be doomed
Hmmm reading mixed reports on how combat works in this MMOG!
Though I got to ask does it have any IMMERSION factor at all. Sounds to me its more Stalker Clear Skies than KOTOR II atm which is disappointing if they have made it all combat orientated totally will kill the experience for any fans of the show totally.
Tabula Rasa was supposedly "tactical" as well. I'm not getting excited until there is reason to be excited. Just tired of being disappointed when it comes to sci-fi MMOs.
Well I played TR when it started and it was rather tactical, I enjoyed the combat system and against superior force you had to move. If people want to play SGW by playing solo and going toe to toe with enemies then why would they care if you can play tacticaly or not?
It seems from vids that playing in a squad tacticaly against superior forces = faster leveling, more cash and better gear. If you want to zerg over and over for 10 hours to do the same amount a tactical squad could in 30 mins why complain there is no tactical element to combat? Maybe not to your style of toe to toe, slug it out, zerg style but I've seen tactical combat on the vids how it works and how it is effective.
In short if you want tactical squad based combat it is available and exists, if you want toe to toe zerg well that's available in most MMOs including this one no doubt. Having a tank being healed whilst the DPS monkeys waste a mob is tactical combat! Claiming it doesn't exist in SGW seems a little absurd to me, especially after seeing the vids of it.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
the only tactical stuff i see in this video is.. Hide behind wall crouch, stand up, shot, crouch stand up shot and retreat ,reheal, go back and do it again.. it sure have some tactical.. but i wouldn't say its "Real" Tactical.. play some FPS you will see what is real tactical with communicaiton

I play BF 2142 but this isn't a shooter we're discussing is it? If you watch the video again you'll see the part how his buddy flanks the NPCs to draw thier fire so that he can gain focus and make some quick kills. It's about as tactical as any MMORPG combat gets in my opinion. Also this is versus NPCs not real opponents, so how tactical you need to be will depend on the AI script. As for PvP I haven't seen examples of squad vs squad play yet, so we'll just have to wait and see. Generally the guilds/commands that group up and use vent are very tactical in whatever they play and win. Even if the tactic is a mere frontal massed assault, it's still a viable tactic. Just because some don't like it doesn't mean it isn't a tactic, bad tactics and good tactics are both tactics, it's up to the players if they want to use them or not or just go zerg. Which is the same for shooters, except for shooters it's far more apparent and unless the other team is unorganized you'll just die alot with no npcs to farm when you get pissed!

It does sound really awesome.
Has anyone seen the short clips of SGW combat in the new movie:
War Games 2: The Dead Code
????
Wooot - looking good guys!

... and you know this because?
No offence, but seeing all the evidence in quite a few vids I find it hard to take the word of Mr. Randomforumguy.
you will be able to see later:)
