Hundreds of Thousands of Players are being kept happy playing Star Wars Galaxies!! (we all know this is a complete fabrication.)
The source of the following article is through Reuters so most of already know there's very little if any credibility in the story:
Star Wars lives on through games

RALEIGH, N.C. Sept 11 (Reuters) - Even if the latest movie, "The Clone Wars," didn't break box office records, the Force is still strong for Star Wars in the videogame realm.
LucasArts has two new games that will be released this fall. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will hit all platforms on September 16, and a pair of Star Wars The Clone Wars games will come out on Nintendo platforms on November 11.
In addition, Darth Vader, for PlayStation 3, and Yoda, for Xbox 360, are exclusive playable characters in Namco Bandai's recent release, Soul Calibur IV.
Sony Online Entertainment's partnership with LucasArts in the multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: Galaxies, also continues to keep hundreds of thousands of gamers happy.
"Star Wars is and will always be a core part of our DNA at LucasArts," said Kevin Kurtz, the company's director of marketing.
"George Lucas created such a deep universe ripe with possibilities that it will continue to be a source for incredible stories and gameplay for years to come," he added.
Since the first film was shown on the big screen over 30 years ago, Star Wars fans have dreamed of the day that gaming could replicate those lightsaber battles between good and evil. Thanks to Nintendo's revolutionary Wii, that day has come with Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duel.
Wii's motion sensor controllers allow two players to replicate the moves of Jedis from the recent movie and upcoming CGI TV series. Developer Krome Studios worked with LucasArts and the creators of the CGI series to ensure the game experience remained authentic.
LucasFilm's Singapore studio, which created The Clone Wars movie and TV series, was also responsible for the Nintendo DS game, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance.
"LucasFilm is telling The Clone Wars story in two different ways -- through a linear, TV format, as well as through an interactive, handheld format," said marketing manager Gavin Leung.
This collaboration across entertainment mediums allowed ideas to flow freely. Leung said a new battleship called the Devastation in the videogame will be incorporated into a future episode of the TV show.
For The Force Unleashed, a new game that bridges the gap between the two Star Wars trilogies, the game designers met with Lucas throughout the four-year development of the title.
"George gave us a history lesson about what the major characters in the Saga were doing in that time frame, and offered feedback and suggestions about the plot and characters," said Haden Blackman, executive producer of the game at LucasArts.
The Force Unleashed introduces a new character to the universe - Darth Vader's secret apprentice. After taking control of Vader, himself, in the first level of the game, players learn the powers of the Force through a series of missions as the apprentice.
The interactive adventures will continue regardless of whether any new Star Wars films make their way into theaters.
"The Star Wars franchise has legs and games seem to be successful with or without films, as we've seen with the LEGO Star Wars games the past few years," said Michael Pachter, videogame analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities.

Like politicians do, Lying can be used to hide the truth.
I think said company is engaged in such practice so as to not look foolish.
I wish he would have quoted and named the source for the numbers. Otherwise it just sounds like pure unknowledgable poetic license (wag) and not responsible jouralism. At least Foxnews occasionally doesn't do this and just retracts everything else...

Please quote your source for sub numbers to the game then as well please.
I've seen some insider sources that put the population at around 7,000 players which actually sounds high to me considering what I saw the last few times I was in-game.
The usual suspects around here say that is too low but haven't provided any proof to the contrary. Even people on the most populated servers can't provide a screenshot showing there's 100 online at any given time.
"inside sources"?
Really now.
If they aren't willing to publish accurate numbers then where is he getting his information from? It's fraud on his behalf.
I think a retraction or correction should be made here.
Fabrications on any level when writing for a media source is 100% unethical and can be cause for a lawsuit.
Tecmo Bowl.
Yep, really.
Who would sue him? SOE certainly wouldn't since he's carrying water for them.
When have I quoted sub numbers? When have said SWG has only this many people? I can't quote something to back up a statement I never made.
Unless of course you meant that statement for someone else.
Cheers.

Its Reuters. Nuff said.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
This much, I can quote
"8538 of 8538 Officers shown (100%)."
(including alternate characters and multi-accounts, includes all 25 servers)
New all time low in these numbers.
One need only go to the O-boards to see people with multiple GCW officers in their Sigs under one acct. Of the few people I know that are still playing, some are still into PvP (God only knows why) and they have officers on both our old server, and on one of the ones that actually has population.
8538 GCW officers does NOT equal 8538 paying accts. Granted, there are plenty of people with none, as PvP and the so called GCW are both one of many grinds these days, that many do not want to take part in, but those balance out with people that have 3+ on one acct. People that actually like PvP are much more likely to have multiple GCW officers than one.
SWG keeping hundred of thosands happy? SOE could only wish for that again. Oh wait, they DID have it and had to ruin the game....
Well they were probably asked to not "quote a source".
A few years back the FTC did fine a software publisher. There is something about "giving false positives" to lure investors and they determined the price of the software was an investment.
Anyway...
Its no different than my new quote where the EA guy says that DAoC has well over 100,000 subs.. and if you've played DAoC in the last year.. I think you can find more people in SWG... and UO having 100's of thousands of subs... I used to love UO but I can't really see the game having 200,000+ people subscribed atm.
"Hundreds of thousands..." implies more than one set of a 100,000; a minimum of 200,000.
And from what I can remember of all SOE/LA PR statements and postings, not one has mentioned more than 200,000. The last statement from a developer was over a hundred thousand about a year ago to put down a rumor that SWG had 25,000 or so (if cited sources are needed, perform a search here or on the web).
A Spin could have been weaved as to saying that hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed. (Past tense rather than present tense)
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
"Sony Online Entertainment's partnership with LucasArts in the multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: Galaxies, also continues to keep hundreds of thousands of gamers happy."
Technically, they never said hundreds of thousands are actually playing, they simply said SOE & LA's partnership is making hundreds of thousands happy.
Now, that being said, that partnership IS giving alot of people something to do (ie: arguing about SWG on these and other forums), so it could be argued that yes, technically there could be alot of gamers feeling happy about SOE&LA, since sometimes it feels good to vent.
Just trying to think like a SOE exec here is all.
To twist the spin further, SOE/LA have allowed hundreds of thousands of people to have fun in finding new hobbies to pursue.
Perhaps we could start up a thread game in which the first part of the sentence is always the same, and then people post different endings...? Or every post must have one sentence in which the key words of, "Sony Online Entertainment," "Lucas Arts," "hundreds of thousands of gamers," and the key word, "happy," must be used???
And that is why...

OK, I stand corrected. This week is;
8440 of 8440 Officers shown (100%).
1078 Captain (12.77%), 875 Colonel (10.36%), 1963 General (23.25%), 2970 Lieutenant (35.18%), 759 Lt Colonel / Commander (8.99%), 795 Major (9.41%),
Sad, really sad.
John who? Never heard of him.
"Sony Online Entertainment's partnership with LucasArts in the multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: Galaxies, also continues to keep hundreds of thousands of gamers happy."
It did NOT say specifically AT THE SAME TIME, CURRENTLY.
That's how they get you. Wording something to make you assume. Although very misleading, overall legally that quote is not a lie.
That's how all of our major media works.
Imagine what real important issues they mislead you on.
This is not some bs.. hoax site or forum post. It is the Reuters most reliable news source in the world. Swg is having the golden age since past december.
We have at least 2X more players than prenge.
asdfg
While true I did not play prior to CU are you telling me today that the NGE today has more players today than players ( at least houndreds of thousands, i.e more than 200,000 than pre-cu).
If so, were you an actual pre-CU player?
