I love WoW. I think it's the best MMO to keep me so interested and wanting to come back to play. I tried every MMO out there and WoW always sucks me back in. The only problem I have is once you reach 58, you go to the Outlands and begin your trek to 70. Now the main focus here is to start building up reputation by doing quests to 70. Once your 70, you need to begin gearing up to run the regular instances(Shaat, Slabs, etc.) So you run these in regular mode, and get some gear to be able to run them in Heroic mode. Which is cool. After you run them say 40 or 50 times to get the gear you need to run the same instances in Heroic. Ok so your geared to do Heroics. You run them again, but for Badges of Justice and by this time you have pre-kara gear.
The Badges of Justice seem to be a pain in the $%^&. It cost around 100 something badges to get a piece of gear. So basically it turns into a badge grind for the gear you need to run ZA. So now you have to keep running the same old Heroics over and over and over and over and pray that you are able to get into the guilds Kara run to get the full 22 badges after you clear it. This is a tedious ordeal if your not hardcore and have a life outside the basement filled with mountain dew cans and hotpockets. So this to me is the only downfall with the game so far. So what's your opinion? Is it worth even doing this?
Comments
So basically your asking us if your enjoying life? I'de have to assume if your questioning it.. Then your probably "doing it wrong".... I look at WoW as a time dumpster.. Nothing more.. Nothing less.. but thats mainly because I haven't found a good group to play the game with, because to me having a few quality players make the difference.
I guess the real question is-- Do you enjoy the grind? If No, Is there anything you do enjoy about the game? If No, Then quit.
Perhaps you need a fresh start ina new life? Remember my brother, WAR is coming.
You sound a bit burnt out possibly?
You post is filled with phrases like "you need to" and "you have to."
The fact is, you don't have to, but you may need to to get what you want out of the game- and that's frustrating (It would be for me at least).
Unless you want to do these things, WoW is definitely going to aggravate you.
I'd suggest stepping away for a bit and coming back later - it has worked for me in the past.

Yep you have a case of the "have to" and "need to", If you don't WANT TO do these things you need to step away and come back in a few months.
I left WoW for the same reason and haven't been back in five months.
If you need to do something in WoW you aren't having fun anymore. Games are supposed to be fun.
Once a grind in a mmo feels like a grind you should leave the mmo.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
Well I have definatly not run any instance 40 - 50 times. And I am max with most if TBC factions, I run ZA and Kara for heroic badges.. score 40+ badges a week that way.. throw in a few 5 mans, the odd grull and can score 100 badges with ease.. I work an 8.5 hour day + 1 hour traveling and work shifts so often go a week without an guild action.
There are changes in wrath you might be interested in.
Heroics only require friendly rep with factions to unlock , if you wear the tabard for say Faction 1 but your running a dungon that scores Faction with Faction 2 you will earm both Faction 1 and Faction 2 Faction.
The fact is blizzard has lowered the bar time and time again,
God I hope they dont have to lower it again because ppl cant organise a 10man group. pfft. Or complain becuase they cant have everything NOW!.
Well, it sounds like you're pissed off. You really shouldn't be pissed off at a game. Here's something to realize, man.
If you are pissed off while you are gearing up, you will not suddenly have a cathartic moment in WoW where your work pays off, and you feel great. You will just be pissed off for a very long time. For you, this progression will not end for a good while. To begin with, even if you were doing tons of runs and progressing at a solid clip, Wrath will hit before you get full Sunwell for sure, so you're not going to finish the BC progression. Then Wrath will give you a whole new progression to go through, which I think will just piss you off even more. Lets assume, though, that you eventually get the final tier in Wrath. Trust me on what I say now. If you are not having fun on your way to get there, you will simply be a combination of bored and mad at yourself for wasting time once you arrive.
So seriously? Just quit and wait for Wrath. Then go through 70-80. There should be some interesting shit in there. Then do the instances once or twice, do a few heroics, do a few raids, then quit again. You might feel like you're dropping something halfway, but ask yourself this. Does anybody IRL, your family or friends, give a shit about what tier your gear is? Even if they play, they probably care more that you're happy. Once you answer that, ask yourself if you really care enough about your character's tier to make yourself frustrated by it.
My opinion is that I didn't do anything close to this.
I quested to 70 and went straight to Kara in greens and blues. Ran Kara a few times, maybe 6 or 8 and got enough badges (22 on a full clear) and equipment to set myself up for ZA. I never ran a single instance, heroic or otherwise to do it. I play a couple hours a night, about 4 or 5 days a week. If I weren't playing WoW, I'd be sitting in front of the TV during that time. That's the only change I've made to my lifestyle, swapping WoW for TV which I don't watch except for an occassional movie, news or sporting event. I don't see the problem.

Agreed. The OP is so very over exaggerating how TBC works. I've never worked to get badges. Badges are a result of playing the game not an end to itself. I've bought everything my toon can buy with badges and now I have 170 burning a hole in my pocket along with over a dozen epics I don't want to sell off yet.
Vingvega you need to focus on having fun playing, and not so much on gear. Gear makes somewhat of a difference in PVE but not enough to worry about it. I very rarely have ever done anything in this game to *get* something. I play the game to have fun with other people, and stuff comes my way. My style of thinking may not work for everyone, but it works nonetheless.
I hope you the best in finding a way to be happy!
Just to go back to the op's original post, you just have to remember one very plain and simple fact and that is, that WoW is a game and it is supposed to be there to entertain you. What you have to ask yourself is whether you feel entertained while you are playing the game or whether it feels like a chore and if it is the latter you would have to question whether it is time for a change.
Far too many people that post about the 'grind' or the 'slog' of this game and refer to their game time as 'work' are clearly burned out and should have moved on a long time ago, but i'm guessing you don't want to end up that way.
Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you are enjoying it
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I have to agree with the 'fun' comments.
It's really the same thing with pvp/honor. If you feel like you are grinding, then maybe you need to refocus on what brought you to the game to begin with. Don't view a play session as " getting 5 badges".. view it as going into a dungeon. Don't try and get 3000 honor, try and win some battlegrounds and kill other players.
Too many players are unable to sperate themselves from 'the next piece of equipment'. If you don't like running instances, then you don't need badge gear. If you like running instances, then getting new gear is like a 'bonus'.
I will point out one thing I think is wrong with WOW... they do wait too long between expansions. 95% of your gametime is spent at endgame... which leaves you with too much time where the only way to change your character is to get better equipment
It was the exact same reason that the OP stated tha tI left WoW. Once you reach endgame, it nothing but grinding to get gear. It's also nothing but scheduling to do raids. The badge system is painful. Heroics require ridiculous amounts of cooperation. One mistake and your party is pretty much wiped.
I like my PuGs. So heroics are extremely stressful for me when running them in PuGs as a tank. Guilds don't normally like running heroics because the raids are where the real money is at.
My first sign to leave the game came when a group picked me up to tank the boss in Khara. I told them I knew how to tank and was compitant. I was right. I grabbed all sorts of aggro, even from the bolts of energy it released. But their healers could not keep me up. My gear was barely passable as a tank for Khara. I was told after 2 wipes that I was not a capable tank. This assumption came because of my gear and not my skill.
Before I left I was starting to actually have a little fun running raids as an offtank. But once I saw the ridiculous number of badges needed to upgrade to a Zul Amun level. I left and played Age of Conan. Now I will be on WAR. I need a new start.
As for you, OP, just quit and wait for the WOTLK. that's when the old school gameplay will come back.
The great guild I was a part of stopped being so great. I transferred and started anew. As it stands, I use wow to pass the time, until I find that awesome niche again. And probably repeat the cycle, like I have every year of playing (since release).
I feel like it's not the game that irritates most people; it's a culmination of the players, attitude and time investment for prime upgrades.
I'm sorry but I have to agree with the poster. Burnout or not every excuse people come up with about the lack of content in game to make us, yes make us, get better gear so we also can enjoy the battlegrounds with some damage on the meters cause all the others have way better gear till we can get it also from the grinds, is tedious. I have 8 level 70s and have to do those grinds on every one of them. Yet I really enjoy other games I have been in longer if not, or as long. CoH - Everquest one and two. Guild Wars. in other words - burnout can happen yet when a game keeps coming out with expansion to refresh the interest, that turns the burnout away. WoW has created an atmosphere that alot of us who have been in the game since the beginning, are seriously over having to grind just to keep up with everyone. I want to be the one rushing up in Alteric valley and two shot that mage LOL. (my poor mage LOL) But in order to get that I have so much time to put into the game just to get that. On top of work, family, and other games, it makes it near impossible to keep up with the Jonses, so to speak. So just putting in my two cents that could go on for more cents of illustration to the point(s), but will have to stay at this as I have another round of grinding to get back to so I can get my belt. hehee
I really must ask, is there a Blizzard rep standing over you with a loaded gun every time you play WoW?? I'm guessing there isn't.
No-one from Blizzard, Vivendi or anywhere else 'makes' you do anything in the game, you pays your money and takes your choice at the end of the day and if the game is not giving you what you need from it then you have the choice to leave and do something else. I refer you back to my earlier post in that games are 'entertainment' and if they aren't doing the job then you don't play them, pretty simple really.
If you buy something and it doesn't do what it's supposed to do you would take it back, if a film is so terrible you can't watch it then you walk out and demand your money back, so why are subbed games any different, if it isn't entertaining you then cancel your sub and move on.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Another guy who finally understand what WoW is all about , gear grind .
