ill admit i was a WAR hater, i did not want this game to take away from WOW, i went to gamestop paid 5 bucks for the pre order and got a beta key to honestly see how bad the game would be. so i start out as a WH and as soon as i log in i think, man this has WOW graphics. i played a few lvls and told myself and a few freinds that this in no way would be a wow killer.
well i logged back on to WOW a little later and noticed the graphics were in no way similar. WAR hands down has great graphics. i especially like the greenskins and empire visually. for some reason i didnt want to play WOW, i wanted to give WAR another shot. lets just say the next day i was trying to convince my freinds to go pre order so we can all play when it launches.
i made a quick judgement on this game with my lvl 5 WH, i changed my mind by the time i was lvl 10. ill admit the pve kind of sucks, but its no different in terms of questing then WOW is, but i only did a few quests when i realized i could just do RvR and level up just as fast. i did get bored of the scenario i had been doing, but i didnt complain. i found a flight master and changed it up a bit.
my only worries with the game is the end game. as long as battles are easy to get into this is gonna be a great mmo for me, im excited i wont have to grind so much just to compete with everyone else on the server. i can log in with my lvl 40 WH and go battle. the game needs a little work and it will get it. hopefully there is a good active community to keep this game alive and active.
give it a chance i like it already and havnt even come close to seeing everything it has to offer. i just need to find a good guild now. if anyone has questions just ask. see you in game. remember im a huge WOW fan and i do like WAR so far.

War is a great game but GOA KILLED the launch in Europe = bad hype meter
THANK YOU GOA
Is there a game with less potential than WAR? Actually I can't think of any.
REALITY CHECK
a ton of potential...
but lacks in execution. Apparently the Beatles were just too much for Marc and Co.
CE cancelled. No use.
Just read Blizz pre patch launcher is already on our HD's and the King is back. Even in the comic book.
.... Awesome.
Can you say what potential it has? I fail to see. Potential has Vanguard with ships, noninstanced housing, world, extremly large continents. Potential has Tabula Rasa with its special combat system, and atmosphere. Potential has Age of Conan with special combat, and solid graphics. But WAR? Everything in WAR is mediocre. The game has no special potential. What potential has public quests? It's just the same grind for a reputation with something (influence) WHat potential does the world has? It's zoned based, one side against another with linear paths. What potential does PvP has? It has instanced scenerios that improves your renown (reputation). You've got to enlighten me, because I fail to see any potential in any of the WAR features whatsoever.
REALITY CHECK
Potential failure in living up to its hype, made possible by jumping flash hero-developpers before the web cams?
or...
Potential RvR before they cut out the 4 capitol cities and ALL Army identities of the WAR TT game?
Naah
They just got potential hype for people fed up with playing Wow for 3/4 years.
The problem is that when you really are bored with Wow, WAR feels even more boring. That's the feeling I had, and everyone else will have the first time they play the game.
Who says he means potential of features?
Maybe he means potential for success.
WAR doesn't need "potential" in it's features, because they have already met great standards.
Are you kidding me? I'm glad you can speak for everyone.
I enjoyed WoW for a while, it became boring and a sad last resort sort of MMORPG for me, since competition has been so poor. Now, I am dead tired of WoW, I've played it to DEATH.
But you know what? WAR is a long awaited breath of fresh air, and I love it.
i think the potential is in the RvR. i play WOW now and all i do is pvp, and its all arenas and BG's. to me raiding is too much of a chore and i just dont have time or the fun to do it. the potential pvp is there for me in WAR, not in scenarios but in the real RvR. i dont like the scenarios for anthing other than leveling up my character and learning the abilities. if i can get a large group of players together and go take over keeps and run into other large groups of destruction to pvp with thats all i need. everyone will have good gear and it will be skill and strategy that will win.
im not giving up WOW, i still like the game. im just not sure i can keep up with the nonstop grinding. WoTLK will be a great expansion and i will at least level to 80 in it, after that im not sure.
No problem. Only the fresh air is blowing the game right into the mouth of a 800lbs ready made gorilla.
I sure do hope you know the game is out now and everyone can see and play it (if he wants it).
Smoked hype is off and gone now.
Just like Mr post Number 1 above: this WoW-WAR thing is going to backfire in such a way, I wouldn't like to be even in the neighbourhood by then.
I do not expect WAR to stomp WoW. I do not expect it to even compete with 10m subs.
Nor do I want it to steal all WoWs subs away. There are many kinds of people who play WoW that I would not like to see play WAR.
One thing is for sure. I am almost completely confident that WAR will be a relative success. Bigger than any game since WoW, at least. I would not be at all surprised if it becomes the second most 'successful' mmorpg ever to date.
Many people will probably play WAR and go back to WoW. That happens with all MMOs. Many people tried WoW and went back to whatever game they were playing before that.
But many people will probably stay with WAR.
I believe I am one of them. I also believe that there will be enough of them to deem WAR a major success.
So far, after playing WAR for a week now, I gotta say, it is a HUGE disappointment. The only saving grace I've found so far with the game are the scenarioes, aka, battlegrounds. They are the best pvp battles I have ever played and I actually enjoy them, since I don't usually like pvp. That being said, leveling up is almost as slow as playing FFXI, which is a pretty big disappointment as well. That and the fact that almost all the classes are the same, I mean, what the crap? Oh and the PVE is absolutely nothing like WoW. If I ran around at level 5 and killed 20 creatures of the same level as me, bam, level. In WAR, not so much. Remember folks, these are opinions, go troll somewhere else.
PS: Wow, this post got me to come out of lurking, kind of scary....
if this will help you:
I am totally not interested if there will be 500, 600 or 100 servers in Wow. Or how many bored Wow-ers will try WAR. The more the better I'd say.
The only thing I say is that Mythic made a game that rides up to the Blizzard real estate and it just doesn't compare well.
I see left and I see right and everyone who WANTS to see it has a chance. Just grab one of those 800K selling boxes in its first 4 weeks.
The big bang will come afterwards and I just hope they don't invest in too much servers like FunCon did.

Thats very true. Of course the game will sell alot no matter how it plays, its been hyped to hell as the "new WoW". But will it last? We will have to see.

yea i got to agree, so are you speaking on my behalf also, i played WoW and cant stand the dam game, WAR is totally opposite and I REPEAT AND AWESOME compared to that piece of crap. But that is my opinion cuz i have been beta testing it, everyone has THEIR OWN opinion and they can say what ever the hell they want to say, so dont be speaking for other people, when you obvisouly dont know what the hell your talking about!!!
thankyou have a nice day
Its hilarious to see some comments on the forums showing exactly that its "cool to hate WoW". Then WAR comes along and despite the core gameplay and a huge amount of features being exactly the same as WoW (and no thats not a bad thing) its obviously the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Its just "cool" to hate on any game. . .period. It really does nothing but irritate people that actually enjoy the game. Ahh if people could only keep their biased opinions to themselves. . .

WAR and WoW play completely different. If you don't believe so then you haven't played both of the games. The reason WoW gets hate is that they directed away from World PvP and turned the game into an end game gear grind with the same instances and battlegrounds and arena fights grinded over and over and over by millions of people.
Sorry that doesn't sound like fun to me. Leveling from 1-40 on World PvP? That sounds fun to me. Fighting over keeps, sieging cities, and really defeating the other side? That sounds fun to me. Endless fighting the same battlegrounds, the same arenas, the same instances in an arcade like manner where what you do really has 0, no, zilch, not alot, not any impact on the World? That just sounds crazy.
There are two kinds of haters. One is the kind that just wants a sandbox and they still hate WAR. The other, and the type that you see a lot here, just hate the way WoW plays out. The soloing all the way to end game to get to repeat the same instances, bg's, arena fights over and over and grind out X just for that next piece of gear that will be made useless the next expansion with no impact on anything. Great you got a new epic set.. It doesn't effect anything besides your epeen. No one else in the server gives a crap besides maybe your arena group, and honestly they really don't give a crap either.
I prefer to play tug of war with other people, and not a wall.

I think its really dependant on what they have to say about the game. Sometimes people have valid reasons not to like a game.

Haha, on this forum. . .nothing is a valid reason.

I think this highlights WAR. The game sounds great. But in its current state it hasnt reached that potential yet imo. Its a worry whether I want to purchase the game on launch or just wait a month and see how it pans out then pick it up for cheaper. The game certainly feels like a beta, which theres nothing wrong with. But when its a week before it goes live, then it becomes a worry.
The direction its going in is interesting and one I really want to enjoy. Ive been following the game since it was announced. But currently it is very clunky and unpolished. I can see it improving in masses after launch which is why im swaying more towards waiting.
Please don't talk about Potential already, it is the kiss of death...

If you compare WAR at launch with WoW this long after launch, WAR still manages to be competitive. It offers a lot that's similar, but also brings quite a bit to the table. WAR has quality of life niceties in spades. It has a better implementation of lore thanks to the Tome and the excellent quest writing. PQ's are a genuinely new mechanic that I think many MMO's (including WoW) are quickly going to start copying. World PvP actually means something, is balanced, manges to be pretty much gank-free, and actually incorporates things like siege engines (something that WoW is still working on, even though they've been promised almost since launch).
If you compare WAR at launch to how WoW was at launch, the differences are striking. WAR has more quests. You can actually reach maximum level on 6 characters (one of each race) without ever repeating a single quest. In fact, you'll have to discard a good many along the way. WAR has scenarios. WoW didn't get battlegrounds until well after launch, and I don't think that even today it has as many as WAR does. WAR has guild halls, guild banks, guild calendars, heraldry that's unique to each guild, guild levels, keep ownership, standards with all their enhancements, and guild leveling. WoW has a few of those things now, but certainly not at launch. And WoW has no plans at all for much of it. WAR has world PvP objectives and siege engines. WoW started talking about some of that shortly after launch, but still hasn't done much. Certainly nowhere near the scale of what WAR offers.
What WoW really does is offer you one game from levels 1-68 and then changes it to something else at the cap. For most of the game, you're PvE questing. That's all. Yes, starting in your teens you CAN go into battlegrounds, but the honor system penalizes you based on how far you are below 70 and there's no bolstering to let people play on an even keel. So what it really comes to is: PvE through the game, and every 10 levels jump into a battleground (maybe) , even though it gives you next to nothing and certainly doesn't help level your character. Then at max level you still do tons of PvE, but now it's all about rep grinds, gear grinds, and time sinks. Repeatedly raid the same dungeon 100 times so that your whole guild can get geared up to go to the next dungeon. Endlessly farm specific mobs so that you can get enough reputation with a faction to buy cool stuff from them. Endlessly run the battlegrounds so that you can get better gear and hopefully have a better chance in battlegrounds. In the end, it's all about the gear. Which does look really cool right when you get it, but soon becomes a yawn because everyone else has it, or has upgraded past it.
Gear is the carrot that keeps everyone on the WoW treadmill.
WAR starts you into world PvP with real objectives right from the first 10 levels. It starts you in battlegrounds right from the first 10 levels. And it still has the PvE as well. So you're getting exposed to end game sorts of stuff right from the very beginning of the game. What changes is that as you go up through the tiers, everything becomes more complex. Objectives become more difficult to achieve, and require more strategy. Combat becomes deeper with morale and tactics. Guilds get access to more and more options including heraldry and standards. When you finally do get to the end game, the game doesn't suddenly change on you. It still offers the same things you've already been doing, but on a huge scale that encourages competition against the other faction and against other guilds rather than against the environment.
This is an exciting change. And since WAR is offering so much RIGHT AT LAUNCH, the hopes for the game's future are very bright indeed.
Problem is you cannot compare them at launch. WoW had its launch 3 years ago - alot has changed and more is expected since then.
Like I said, even though its an evil word apparently , the game definitely seems to have potential. As it grows and sorts out alot of the issues it will be a ton of fun. But at the moment i personally find myself feeling like I'd rather be playing a much more solid enjoyable MMO at this moment in time.
you are looking at this game all wrong, you think it is trying to be a RPG.
this game is simple, you make a character and are droped on a vertual table top video game version of this IP and fans of this IP will love this game and i can see this game having alot of WoW pvp players jump ship.
