exactly and without chat it is hard to make friendships and create lasting guilds. The way i have created the best guilds while playing mmos is by talking with people then becoming friends and creating or helping each other with guilds

Exactly.  This day and age, where online chat has invaded everything, lacking this very thing takes the community out of the online experience which is a MAJOR detriment to any MMORPG.

In the early years of EQ 1, it was basicly a chat room with some killing..  DaoC was silent and nice, you could chat with grp, guild, /as, no region or zone chat.. a very nice change of things.. then they made a region chat.. i turned it off.. then they made an advice chat.. again i turned it off.. basicly if I want to talk to you I'll talk to you. If your not in my RW or VENT chat and I dont send you a tell i don't want to hear / see your chat. k thnks

thats nice for you but some of us like some chat i have made friends with people i usually wouldnt because fo chat

  • AnnekynnAnnekynn Member Posts: 1,437

Talking? You mean standing still while you type on your keyboard? No thanks. Ventrilo and Teamspeak were invented for a reason. Much faster and better way of communicating.

Why chat in game, when you can just come to the forums and do it? Honestly though, I prefer typing over voicechat in RP games, mostly because, as another poster mentioned, I'm usually listening to loud music as I slaughter enemies.

The reason people don't chat is because of people like this. Elitist MMO tards living in a virtual world stoking their character e-peen. Would you really want to converse with someone like this?

    USD$  Mic = 3.95

    USD$ Keyboard= 40.00 for a basic

  • kage-no-shikage-no-shi Member Posts: 110

$4 mic is shit and barely audible, $20 for ok one maybe $10 ofr a deal, anyway most comps come wiht a freakin keyboard otherwise you wouldnt get things done

Its funny that people want next gen mmo's but not next gen ways of communicating. Whats up with that?

You spend $300 on a video card but cant afford $20 on a good mic? What kind of backward logic is that?

If you want to type, type. Im not saying you shouldnt nor that you cant. Im just saying that atleast I dont, and everyone else I know doesnt either.

I've had alot of very talkative Warbands on Tyrion and Crag Mere.

You're probably in the MMO gaming  minority.  Why bother playing them?  Just go back to Baldur's Gate..save yourself some money.

MANY people don't want the voice chat but prefer the typing one when playing MMOs. If you are not, I don't quite understand your draw to MMOs..if you play with RL friends all the time and use Vent/teamspeak and dont like "General"/Mass chat, why play MMOs?  Why not just play a coop RPG? It seems like it would suit you more.  Further, why not just remove all chat functions in-game if that's what you prefer...and go ahead and remove the monthly fee..make it a coop game.

    I like Vent/TS for certain games...like FPS.

Again, I feel this is the "fanbois" trying to argue a detriment into a plus...

If youre doing PvE then typing is fine, but doing PvP, RvR and Scenarios, typing will get you killed. You cannot fight and type at the same time. So you are either not communicating or you use voice comms. This has nothing to do with "fanbois" and everything to do with common sense. I can press a button and yell "they are coming from behind us!" far faster than typing it out.

Ok, but PVE is a major component of this game, am I correct?  Because if it's only meant for small groups on Vent/TS PVPing against another group doing the same, well, then it sounds like this is like a Guild Wars PVP round.

Yes PvE is a major component but it is not the primary focus of the game nor is it the endgame. The primary focus and endgame is PvP and RvR, and if you dont have voice comms you will fair worse than someone who does.

And if you dont have a mic, then thats fine, as long as you are not leading and are able to hear the orders/instructions/warnings of whomever is. Being able to listen is more important than being able to talk, though ofcourse being able to do both is best. Microphones arent expensive :)

Nah.. too  much of the game is geared abour PVP that requires Groups.. and alot of team oriented stuff.

PQs, instances, RVR, all rely on more than one person.. and the pve leveling isn't rich enough to stand out ABOVE all that.. to make it a single player game with multiplayer.

AOC is a single player game with multi users.. since group dynamics in that game sucked.. aggro management was NIL. and the world was just WAY too small.. but ask protus about that.> i think he is the only one here that still plays that game.

Doesn't matter idiot. What the guy is saying is that it feels as if you're playing a single player game. Why? Because you feel alone when playing. However, you're with so many people. Chatting with others will go along way and communication is a necessary thing to keep a game running. If you hop on and rvr and pve with others but don't talk, something is wrong. I haven't seen any communication on this game which to be quite honest worries me a little. You may see it as not being a big deal. You may also say that it's beta and when retail hits chats will be very active. As they may be a little more active, the chat system on this game sucks.

No one knows wtf world chat is or how you chat to everyone else...the say chat is white and blends in which every other non sense text we see in the chat box so it's hard to tell if someone is talking...shout is yellow but I have no idea what it does.

All in all, they need a better chat system that's more user friendly. Otherwise, this game will feel solo as far as communication goes. When you're questing alone, it will feel as if you're playing a single player game. Why? Because you won't see others talking nor will you be talking with them. I've tried talking in the chat, no one talks back. Could be because it's beta and servers are low due to players knowing their characters will get whiped. I hope you're right when saying chat will start being more active during retail, but I doubt it. Unless they change their system. I saw tons of players on the 1st day of open beta and didn't see anyone chatting on the chat.

Yes the chat system can be improved. Use the feedback tool in the game to let Mythic know that so it gets a higher priority if its important to you.

This post actually made me do that. I'm doing it right now hehe. =) I just feel all mmorpgs need to have chat going on. Otherwise you get the feeling it's dead, even though it's not. Atleast I do.

Almost nonexistent.  In an rvr I heard an orc complaining healers weren't healing, but there was no reply to him that I ever saw.

I was trying to find out where the rvr renown turn in was for goblins and I started out asking in 'say'.  Nothing.  Next I tried 'shout'.  Nothing.  Then I tried for my whole faction.  Nothing again.  I was like....what the hell.....I've never had that happen in chat before.  Not one helpful person.  Not even an insult or get a clue.  Just silence.

The chat needs to stand out more. We all need to file reports in game giving feeback or something letting them know, the chat system sucks and needs a revamp. It needs to be more user friendly and needs to stand out better. It's not being used when really it should be. I just think it's the fact that it doesn't stand out, people don't trully understand what each mean (shout, etc...), and  it isn't user friendly.

Counterstrike, CoD 4, Team Fortress 2 and PvP combat; these games all require groups and teamwork, and they are most certainly mutli-user single player games. WAR lacks depth, and means for social situations, that's why you don't see much chatting going on.

Does this mean that it's a bad game? Absolutely not, it's just fine for what it is; a linear combat/pvp game.
