I really liked the idea of this site until I found this trash posted in a sticky..

I've puttered around the site before, just created an account today and found that.
I'm just appalled that a site would promote that game. It and those like it (outwars and all its ridiculous clones) are the bane of many a message board.

There is no possible way that we can stop every user from promoting these games on our forums.  If the thread/post solely promotes games like that  then we take action.

We're in NO way forcing you to play ANY game, we're here to provide information on ALL games in the genre for everyone. Some people like those games. You obviously don't, so ummm.... what to do here.... ummmm don't play them? Like I said, we're not here to force anyone to play any game, we don't support any game over any others. We provide the information, what you do with it is your business.

No, you can't force anyone to play or not play a game, but those games are widely recognized as pure spam generators. At their peak some forums almost couldn't contain the amount of 'Look at this great new mmorpg' (which isn't even an RPG, but thats another post) People spam it to chats, they create false forwarding links through other sites.

They seem to be on the decline lately, it would be nice to let them die in peace rather then have them mentioned on a site like this. People flock to free online games like a moth to flame, putting that in the thread has done alot more then just 'list it' its probably sent them plenty of business and generated plenty of spam.

    WoW

    Hehe, it's ok :)

If you do not like these types of games then y ou don't like them. BUt don't go about saying how bad this site is for that.

I love mmorpg.com even though they have Lineage 2 as their whole own discussion board.  Just because i hate lineage 2 doesn't mean it should not be posted here.

After all this is a mmorpg site.  Not a paid mmorpg site or a "you have to love this mmorpg mmorpg site.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

  • crossmrcrossmr Member Posts: 79

No.. and lineage is fine..its not a spam inducing message forum wrecking game...
If this game was just like any other grind inducing mmorpg I wouldn't care, I mean I hate knight online too, its a horrid EQ rip off... but this game and games like it ruin message boards over the spam they create.

The premise of the game is simple, you have a secret link and must get people to click it..so guess what.. immature people who play this game put the link everywhere.. everywhere.. I once found it scrawled on the side of my lizard.. I have no idea how they got into the apartment or the cage..but there it was..

Yes and freedom of speech has long been recognized that it doesn't mean you can say anything you want, whenever you want. Inciting a mob, or shouting 'Fire' In a crowded movie theatre is not covered by freedom of speech.
Promoting an activity (or in this case a game) that is widely known to cause damage (some boards have been completely erradicated by the initial spam when these games first emerged) would seem to follow along with those. You may claim you're just 'listing' the game for the benefit of all the members, but you can't be so ignorant as to think that listing the game in a stickied thread labelled 'Free games' is any different then promoting the game.

If the forums are well kept (as the MMORPG.com forums are) then the links wouldn't be a problem at all. Besides, it is almost always clear as to where you're going when you click a link. You always have an option to see exactly what the link is.

So, I understand your complaint... I think you're exaggerating the "damage" caused by this. I don't think there is any damage at all. I mean, did your lizard suffer from ink poisoning? I think not because I made sure to use a safe toxicity pen!

Anyway, back to my original point. It's up to the forum administrators/moderators to keep the forum clean of things they do not want. It always has been and it will always remain that way. There are links far worse than that which can be posted. If it was truly a problem the links can be disabled.

    Aye... there you have it.

Crossmr, I suggest you contact support@mmorpg.com with your complaint, which i believe is what this thread is, and it will be addressed accordingly.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Moved to Site Suggestions.

    Locked.
