Why I've waited so very long...

There are a lot of people who’ve been waiting for this game, and each has his or her own reason for coming back time and again to see if there’s anything new about Darkfall. From the look of it, it seems that most of you are waiting for the “hardcore” PvP. While I like a good fight just as much as the next guy, this isn’t quite what I find so exciting about the game, so I figured I’d share the reason that I haven’t given up yet.

In so many games, the limited PvP is about nothing. Players fight, they die, they respawn, and they do it over and over again, and for all that effort the game world changes not one bit. Oh, there might be some change in player rankings or some minor damage to the loser’s equipment, but nothing of substance changes in the story of the game.

For a long time I’ve waited for an MMO that utilized the control of limited resources as the backbone for generating conflict. In Darkfall players will fight for extended control of a resource that can’t just be harvested anywhere. They will build structures, armor, and equipment and spend untold amounts of gold to take and hold onto a piece of the global economy which could give them real influence over the politics of other guilds.

In WoW you do quests, level up, and find loot. In Darkfall you help shape the course of dynamic, player controlled nations. Combat can do more than earn you levels here. In Darkfall combat can secure the prosperity and safety of your guild.

And with a real cost to fighting, your guild will have to rely on more than just combat to prosper. Clans will need to exercise power over trade, diplomacy, and subterfuge as well as force of arms, lest they risk bankruptcy from the cost of endless warfare or conquest at the hands of allied enemies.

It’s more than FFA PvP that draws me to Darkfall. By giving combat a purpose worth fighting for and a price that can’t be paid endlessly, this game promises a world that changes and grows based on the combined efforts and struggles of its players. Such a dynamic world promises to outshine the static theme parks that comprise the current stock of MMOs

Totally agree, I am terrible at pvp and this is still the most promising mmo I've seen for years.

It's the freedom and metagames that are so attractive.

Can't say I'm a big fan of PvP, atleast not in the 'modern' games. But that's cause I don't have same amount of time to play these days, I can't keep up with my mates or guildies which leveling faster than me. So I'm always stucked somewere in the middle.

If I want to gain experience in crafting, well I must level up my char to do crafting. Group with my guildies even if they're higher level than me. Then I'll have no experience gained.

That's why I can't stand levelbased games anymore.

And if they're put more effort MMORPG.com can create a 'Team Sceptic'
and send them to the Special Olympus.

     Nice post

I have never realy liked PvP, and its down to what you mentioned, its all for nothing. I realy do hope that this is going to change with Darkfall, even if it lives up to half my expectations I will be very happy.
