Comparing these two game is assinine. At launch, the general public had NO IDEA what lay in store for them after tortage. nda was still up, beta was capped at level 13...etc. Aoc still had people snowballed at launch.
War is not hiding behind nda's etc. We know what we are buying.
Your comparison fails miserably.
WAR is well ahead of AOC at this point in both their life times, however very few people have any clue about the end game of WAR either. T4 NDA is still up buddy boy. We don't have much of a clue how its going to play outsid of what we've been told by Mythic staff.
What we do know right now is that the queues are horrendous, so any Mythic fanboy(not you) that's mocked Blizzard in the past might have to eat some crow right now. But I'm sure its OK when it happens to a game they like, right?
I'll see your crow, and raise you egg on the face.

The WAR is under way and we want everyone to take part. In addition to our starting list of servers for the CE Headstart, we have also added three new Core Servers: Ulthuan, Vortex, and Ungrim. We will continue to add new servers of all types and adjust balances as the day progresses.
Update 2:05PM EDT - NA Server: Bretonnia (Core) is now available, have fun! In addition multiple servers have had their population caps increased."
Go back and listen to a developer interview with the Funcom Devs. Then go back and listen to a developer interview with the Mythic Devs. There really is a difference if you LISTEN to the way they talk about game design/development.
It's true the jury won't be out on WAR until a month or so at least. We'll have to see if WAR has the problems AoC did. But for now, I've gotten in the game, it's stable and it's fun. Some servers have queues and some don't. We'll see how things turn out in a month.
I knew from day 1 that Funcom's AoC would be a failure. That company has a history of making craptacular MMOs. It's in their DNA. They ALWAYS make a game top notch on the graphics and piss poor on the gameplay. Unfortunately for them, gameplay is 90% of what makes a great game while graphics is probaby 5% at best. They never learn.
I think it's too early for this debate. There were a LOT of people who thought that AoC's release was one of the smoothest in MMO history. Unfortunately the game just hasn't held up to the expectations that were laid before it. I for one am not passing judgment on WAR yet. I played some for the open beta and there are things about it I love and things about it I don't like. I am hopeful that it does well more because I look forward to hanging out with my guild mates and having some fun.
I was super hyped for Age of Conan. I was so let down by what we were given ...
Anyway, I played the open beta for WAR and after doing so I ran out and grabbed a SE preorder (Come on Tuesday!). WAR, while not as graphically beautiful as AoC is so much more solid and stable. I also like the fact that Mythic has been upfront with content cuts. That speaks volumes!
As for the Force Unleashed ... Don't waste your time and money. The storyline, while cannon, is weak (Think episode 1), and the game play becomes extremely boring after the novelty wears off.
Yes, success is ultimately determined over time. But if I were a betting man, I'd say WAR will be a success 3 months from now. Two reasons:
1) While Funcom was focusing on their mambi pambi pretty graphics, Mythic was the grunt down in the trenches focusing on gameplay over pretty graphics (no matter what criticism they received). And as a result, they will most likely have an engine built to last some major player stress with little lag. It's all about the long term. And Mythic has smartly planned for the long term so that they can retain their player base.
2) Mythic had the right attitude of delaying until it was right despite the uproar from the community. This will pay off in spades when they get a high retention rate and expand into the future.
Anybody who compares the launch of AoC to WAR has a very superficial understanding of the facts. WAR is not going to fall apart like AoC. Believe me, I've played the endgame during beta in WAR. It only gets better.
Did you know™? That a book is automatically New York Time's bestseller if it is the only book released on that day? The more you know™
Did you know(tm)?
That WAR will not be the only game released? In fact, two other BIG games (that it is currently trouncing atm) are being released close to and on the same date as WAR. In fact, one of those games (Spore), was supposed to easily dominate WAR in initial sales.
The more you know(tm)
I don't think you understood the meaning of my post. You took it too literally by looking at trying to denounce it when it is a comment that isn't meant to be denounced but simply noted for it's meaning.

I was not disappointed by AoC (because I knew they were full of BS) but now I am disappointed
I think I will go cry. Or maybe looks at some reviews or something.
Something like that and then rapidedly dropped out of top 100.
The thing is I KNEW they would be in the top spot for 2-3 weeks. There was nothing surprising there. It's like a terrible movie in its first week of release.. nobody knows it sucks yet. Anytime you have AWESOME graphics but crappy gameplay, you're going to get frontloaded business. But in the long term, gravity will pull it down to reality when people realize just how crappy the game really is under the surface.
WAR, on the other hand, doesn't have the fancy smancy graphics to pull people in that AoC had. So it's a testimate that they're number 1 despite the fact that they don't have breath-taking graphics like AoC did. It's all gravy from here since WAR has the gameplay thing down. Which is what ultimately retains people for the long haul.

It's a bit early to say succes, even Vanguard was on the top at release...
Put in the thread if it's still in top in 3 months.

You can also note that a game isn't a book.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
How long was AoC #1 seller at Amazon, 3 weeks?
I was not disappointed by AoC (because I knew they were full of BS) but now I am disappointed

Unlike AOC, War has the features listed on the box included in gameplay and the game works very well.
