So I want to join the world universe of eve its the only mmo I am interested in, (I am a bit of an mmo noob)
but I am quick learner.
ok so I have a few questions.
1) I am downloading the trial at the moment. when I come to activate my account to full can I use a time code. as id rather purchase it via paypal than put my card details on another site.
2)does it really matter what race/profession I chose. will my choices this early in the game affect my future.
3)i will be doing about 60% pve and 40% pvp . is that an ok mix. or is this game very pvp heavy.
4)my main goals in the game are 1) missioning 2) pvp 3)mining (very small)
what skill should i concentrate on training at the beginning..
thanks that's is all
any more advise is welcome.

1) You can use time code cards, if it is possible to use paypal, i would not know, you can check EVE's website http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=54
2) Race does not matter, but your profession will, and is crucial to how fast you will train your skills in the future, an example, if you choose to be a combat oriented pilot, you will train those skills faster than the industrial oriented skills.
3) In this game you can choose what you like, one week you can sit and do missions in Empire (kind of like a safe haven) next week go and do pvp in low sec or 0.0 area (system security in eve goes from 0.0 to 1.0, 0.0 is lawless space where anything goes, and anything above 0.5 considered safe space, unless your cooperation is war targeted by another cooperation). You will have to fund your pvp addiction with mission running or mining, or building, or market trading or any other scam you can cook up.
4) I started doing missions as well, but have not done any the past 1.5 years, now i just go around and shoot npc's or mine ore or do exploration sites, missions got a bit repetative and i had to find other ways to make money and staying happy. But some do missions all the time, i believe most are flying Caldari Battleships, the Raven, or the Drake, so train skills to shoot missiles and damage and shield tanking. There is no problem at a later stage if you like pvp to train for ships more suited for that kind of combat.
Good luck, and my last tip, no matter how much you want to go out there and explore the world, do the tutorial all the way through first, it will help you a whole lot to understand how EVE works.
And definatly at last, there will be many people there who will tell you to train your learning skills up at full first before you train for something else, i would just say, train as you feel is correct for you, spending a month training your learning skills up and not being able to fly anything larger than a frigate, is not really any fun at all. (jsut do the ones that goes fast first, then the rest later when you are offline, holiday, etc)
Zappydog covered it pretty well. I just want to add the following:
- Make sure when you design your character that your attributes are as balanced as possible, except for charisma which you want somewhere between 5 and 7 (definately no higher than 7).
- Start off by doing a little bit of mining. Get some money up front and invest it in buying the racial frigate that gives mining bonuses together with some mining lasers (I recommend either Miner I at the very beginning). Your goal is to earn about 300-400k. Once you have that much spend it all buying, fitting out and insuring a good combat frigate and do some missions - you will power through level I missions in this setup. Alternatively scrape up what money you can at the beginning and go ratting in 0.8 security space. Just fly out to a random asteroid belt and kill any NPCs you see. Take them on 1v1 at first, then slowly look for larger groups and see how confortable you are. Remember the lower the security rating you go ratting in, the tougher the rats but the bigger the rewards.
- When you get the chance learn the Salvaging skill. It is expensive, and has another skill as a prerequisite. But it will pay off for itself in two missions. Salvaging is a cash cow and you will feel rich when you start doing it.
- For pvp I suggest joining your faction militia. You will get to go out and have a good fight in a group whenever you want. Make sure you are earning enough money to easily replace a lost frigate though (ie. make sure you are doing level II missions with your destroyer or cruiser, and use frigates for the pvp). Alternatively I suggest you join a corp. EVE University is meant to be very good and they would teach you everything you needed to know.
thanks for the help you two. allot of useful info
still have not gotten round to playing eve. will do tomorrow morning, i have had a busy day today
