I can definitely understand that if you are a PvP-centric player.
For myself, the sheer amount of content, the customization, the grouping and play dynamics, the variety of missions and villians.... it's been worth it to maintain my sub coming right out of beta up until now.
The new additions coming up look extremely interesting as well.
It is a damn shame that they just couldn't master class balance; on the other hand, PvP in CoX is very viable if you have the right team composition and actually use tactics.

The CoH game was not designed as a PvP game, but the PvP ability was added in with CoV. And no it isn't always balanced, but that can happen in any PvP game. I play for the dynamics of the game, I started in June 05 and have played ever since.
Though I would like to point out that last night in the high level PvP zone my level 44 Scrapper fought a level 50 Brute for more then 5 minutes non stop. Now tell me, how many games can you do that? It was down to who ever got lucky at that point. The other PvP'ers in the zone all stopped to watch. It was a great fight and i have had a few like that before. Also as pointed out before, your build, your team, and good tactics can over come the lack of balance.
Yeah the PvP in CoH reminds me of the great flaw in skill based games. There is always a "dominate setup" that EVERYONE uses. In this game it is super speed, web grenade, energy powers, teleport foe, stealth, and layered toggle defenses.
Hopefully Champions Online will be created in a way to add PvP balance form the start. Hopefully Cryptic won't make the mistake of not having PvP on launch day.
I like a good round of PvP myself but it's not game breaking for me in CoH; I've been playing for 4 years now with a few breaks here and there (mostly for financial reasons, especially when I was running 3 EVE accounts) and no matter what MMO I'm into I always end up missing CoH. I have two accounts that I keep up and 30 alts in total on Pinnacle; it's got one of the best Development Teams and Communities around and I actually have an emotional investment in my characters. So far no other game comes close to that and EVE is the only MMO I've played for more than 6 months other than CoH (2 years for EVE).

Same here, been on and off of CoX since 2005 jumping from game to game, and I end up missing the game. PvP isn't as fun anymore these days with the excess use of IOs (and the fact that devs doesn't balance the game around IOs), I only occasionally drop in RV or SC when I need a break from PvE.
Every issue always seems to bring positive things, rarely ever drives subscribers away, like Tabula Rasa has been doing the past year with their unnecessary class revamping.
The fool's errand of trying to balance different classes to please the pvp-crowd ruins all games. The only good pvp that has ever been in MMORPGs was found in UO and Asheron's Call, long before the fool devs began listening to the screams for balance.
Balance two powers and you have lost the difference between the powers, sure one might be bright green and goes bloop-bloop vs the red one that goes snicker-snack but in the end total balance removes the real difference.
I want games with differences, choices and options.

There is a simple law in games
Balance = Sameness
Sameness = Boring
