They have no idea what star trek was about, community, interaction with others, and what’s this captain crap... my advice would be to at least sit down and watch... ONE! Star trek episode... but sadly... once gain, even after a dev change, they get it in their heads about what they think this license is all about, cutting off the very thing that made start trek great... exploration... adventure new worlds new life. Solving mysteries... engaging environments... lol star ship captains for all....

If you read the news story here http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/2297993#2297993 , you'll see one of the lead designers is a Trekkie. He admits to being a combat-lover, but he still wants to keep things as true to canon as possible.

Well, he didn't post his thread title in all-caps...

Wow.....Another post by someone who got a little bit of knowledge and just drew completely wrong conclusions.

Wonder what the odds of that happening on the STO forum is?

I don't mean to be the proverbial wrench in the gears, but Jack Emmerit pretty much described STO as everything you just mentioned.  Yeah, so we're all Captains of our own ship.  So what?  I think that's a better idea than taking your orders from one guy who does nothing but play the game all day long.

  • xtravertxtravert Member UncommonPosts: 134

I think they're doing a pretty good job.  Interviewing cast members, attending conventions, revealing the game to live audiences who are serious Trek fans... yeah they totally suck.  Do you just make this stuff up as you post it or do you seriously just have no clue?

This game will be just another starship sim ONLINE  I can see it coming a mile off... they do not have the backing to make it into what it should be.

Do you have any actual facts to back up your wild accusations or are you just talking out of your ass like we all think you are? I'd bet on the latter myself. Maybe you should actually go and read up on the game before you decide to come here and troll because it's obvious to many here including myself that you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

Well this is my first post on here but I really kind of wanted to just say that I think this project has a lot of potential and i disagree that it would fail because they seem to be doing the right things to make the game available and attractive to widest audience possible. I love the idea of the Star Trek Universe and hope it will be far better then waht happened to Star Wars with SWG. I played that game and liked it unti I hit level 50 when the story line just ended abruptly and it went to pretty much aimless wandering. Too much grinding and doing nothing but hunting around for badges and junk. I'd like some real play and not scavenger hunts or killing the same creature over and over. I didn't mean to get off on a lil rant about SWG. Anyhow, I look forward to trying this game and think it looks very promising.

I agree with this 100%, so fingers crossed STO meets its potential here

Well since you think it will fail etc etc. you should be happy that you no longer have to waist your time in these forums, hope you find something you like, bye.

On another forum, a guy's signature was a quote by some guy (who I assume is the lead STO dev) and it said something like, "We didn't make STO for Trekkies."  That does scare me a bit if true, because first of all, like 50% of people my age probly consider themselves Trekkies.  And we do want the game to be for Trekkies.  But I have no idea if this is true or not, or, necessarily, what the implications are.

Unlike you, I will actually wait to see how the game plays before I say it will fail. Most of what you say is either speculation or you are just uninformed. These forums are loaded with people who attempt to predict the future of games.

"They have no idea what star trek was about"

If I'm not mistaken you are a fan just like myself and just about anyone else on these forums so unless you are Gene Roddenberry or a PAramount executive or even a dev for the company that purchased the rights to the game, you just as I have very little say on what Star Trek was about other than opinions and honestly as a fan myself I can pretty easily say that me and you don't agree on what Star Tek was about.

"and what’s this captain crap... my advice would be to at least sit down and watch... ONE! Star trek episode..."

I myself have watched dozens of them and you know what the main theme was that the "Captain" of said crew made the decisions and basically dictated the direction of the show.  Every single show they had focused primarily on the captain of the ship the original,TNG,DSN,Voyager and even Enterprise so I'm having a hard time understanding what it was you watched that didn't have a strong focus on the captain of the ship.

" but sadly... once gain, even after a dev change, they get it in their heads about what they think this license is all about, cutting off the very thing that made start trek great... exploration... "

Unless I'm missing something they did say exploration would be a part of the game and the funnniest thing is you are doing exactly what you claimed they did got an idea in your head about what YOU think the license is about at least they paid to present their ideas.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Just to let you know that quote came from Darron Stinnett the Executive Producer of STO at Perpetual Entertainment. As far as we all know he has nothing to do with Cryptic's STO which quite frankly is a good thing. He was a major ass who was terrible at PR and game development judging from the direction PE was taking the game in. With Craig Zinkievich at the helm (Cryptic's STO Exec Prod) and Cryptic's great development team the game is in much better hands now.

hmm  all i can say is READ about the game before posting next time m8..  in the WEBCAST that contains the first viewing of the trailor as well as questions answered, Jack Emmert clearly states that exploration is the key factor of the game. oh btw, he also says he himself as well as pretty much the whole team are watching and reading everything ever printed/filmed to do with Star Trek.

  • arkady09arkady09 Member Posts: 245

Oh OK thanks, that is good to know.

It is, please don't listen to this troll (the OP) as he has no idea what he is talking about. Go and read the FAQ on the official site and you'll see that he is about 99% wrong about this game.

  • my first post also, and I'm also an old school galaxies player.  That game had some unique elements and I hope sto incorporates the social aspects to some degree.  I really liked that there was a high level of interactivity required and the game was designed so that players were forced to some degree to rely on each other.  The most fun I have in morgs is through grouping and so the dev who is tasked w/ monitoring the forums please make this a priority but NOT artificial like in dnd online.

    galaxies veterano/ mastered the game

dnd online tried it for a little while it stunk

    wow veterano

assorted shooters like Quake,  Doom (and expansions), Half life and Half life two (all expansions) mastered

how do I use that wasd again? :)

No offense, but this game is suppose to have all of that

    Copy Paste:

Adventure in the Final Frontier: Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations in an expanding vast universe. Make contact with alien races, discover resources and uncover mysteries that will change the future of the Star Trek universe.

And as far as the everyone is a captain thing goes, I was like you at first.  I didnt really agree with it.  But after I thought about it, it made sense to do it like that for game play reasons.

Can you imagine a game where every position on your bridge had to be filled by an actual player?  There would be alot of problems because people have lives and jobs that would conflict with play times.  Who's going to nagivate the ship if you Helmsman had to work late?  Or fix the warp drive if the engineer is stuck baby sitting?

I know it takes away from the fantasy, but to me it makes sense for game play reasons

    cheers :)

They have already had 1 money sink failure, what makes you think they have the money in such hard times, no this game will have the minimum funding as its already eaten up a budget.

Again you prove you have no idea what you're talking about. CoH was voted 'Game of the Year' by many different gaming magazines and websites and Champions is being followed by hundreds of thousands very interested fans. I would hardly call either of these failures in any way. CoH/CoV alone netted this company more money than most make over their entire corporate lifespans so even if Champions doesn't do so well they will still be in the green. Again show some proof of what you're claiming or you are just talking out of your ass again.

I would love to see a startrek mmo that would enbale me to focus on adventure  but this will be nothing more than a flight sim. As for no clue, everyone was saying the same thing over perpetual and look what happend. I see nothing that changes my mind, this game will fail, if its ever released at all.

If by some miracle they do get it right, you are looking at a 2011 release., so who cares, they should have done this and got it our years ago.
