Against contrary advice, I downloaded Archlord...

Now let me start before saying that I normally detest grinding games.  I had suspected that this was one of them.

However, bearning in mind my pc is quite old, I was amazed at how spectacular the graphics were.  The game itself made me feel as though I was part of the world, and I spent ages just looking around in awe of the visuals.   Coupled with this was the 'glitch' free gameplay.  It simply ran like a dream, putting even Guildwars to shame.

The quests are so far quite rudimentary and slightly childish, but at least they are presented well, and the text is word-wrapped, unlike most of these free2play's where the text is all over the place.

Combat is refreshingly quick (bearing in mind I'm used to the poderous Lotro system).  Fast enough to make it almost like Diabloo games!

Of course, I am still at the newbie village.  So will my experience change for the worse?

Any hints and tips on how to play would be of great use to me.  For example, how do I pick up loot quickly? Or do I have to double click on it all the time?

Also, how do I learn spells, and use my points?  Or will one of the villagers teach me this?

Also, how do I summon a monster to help me?  As I love games that allow this.

And how large is the game world, in compared to other MMO's?

And how does pvp work?

Any other tips are useful, and thanks to anyone who answers.

Let me know your in-game name if you want to become friends (I have none yet -boohoo)

Saddened that nobody replied.  I'll leave it a while then ceck again.

You see, although I think the game is gorgeous, i am suspicious that it is going to be another Korean grinder, and I don't want to waste my time and effort playing if it is.

This game is really fun for the first doesen levels, i found it quite the grind fest after that. Also it wasnt that rewarding, at all. Lack of content on top of all that. What level are you now? I quit before reaching 15.

My personal opinion: Its a good MMORPG, but in comparission to other RPGs, it lacks alot.

Well started playing this morning.   I'm lvl 12.

    Here are my first impressions.

Movement is wonky,  its either point and click, or wasd.   Its hard to explain how poorly the wasd works in movement (at least for me).   I'll hit forward, move forward, then find myself back where I started in an instant.   I gave up on wasd and am using the point and click movement, as a result I frequently (inadvertantly) find myself running in some odd direction for no apparent reason as I have tried to activate a scroll but instead click the back of a barn 400 yards to the east (and am heading there with great haste).

I have a habit of  right cliking my skills on the action bar.  The tool tips pop up and identify the spell to me in great detail covering up my health and mana bars.    You need to really pay attention to your health and mana as you'll be spamming potions like 2moons on crack.   I managed to disable tooltips, which was great until I realized I could no longer float my curser over items for identification purposes (makes selling something hard when you can't identifiy it).   So the tooltips had to come back on.

You can only have 10 items in the auction house at one time.

You do start out with a generous amount of bag space.

Character creation is very limited which normally does not bother me, as eventually your covered in some kind of armor, except with Archlord you can't choose sex.   If you want to be a mage you are going to be female.

I don't like the combat at all.   I'd have to say that it is because of the character movement.   One of my skills hits multiple mobs in a straight line.  Lining up for this kind of attack is difficult (for me anyways) with the point and click method.   If I want to back up, I'll click behind me, but because it is point and click... I TURN AROUND, and voila!  I've got my back to the mob I was trying to back up from .

I have yet to decipher a system that informs you what mobs are aggressive.   Many are but you have to be pretty damn close to them to get thier attention.

I discovered what I think are "elite" mobs quite by mistake.   Thier names are a light yellow (instead of white) but you'll only see the name of the mob if you float your cursor over them.  They have the exact same character model as the regular mobs.    They are very hard to kill and spawn almost the moment you kill them.   I thought perhaps these "mobs" were Archlords version of "named" mobs.  But there are frequently more than one of these 'elites' hiding in the 'herd' at a time.

After level 6 you start losing xp when you die (3 percent).    That figure can go up if you become a "rogue" (a pk'er who attacks lowbies).

I've managed nearly 1 million in gold in just half a day thanks to numerous rare drops and and two "fortification potions".    So the loot is pretty good.

Not sure if I've been in areas where "ganking" is a possiblity or not, but thankfully I have not as of yet been killed by another player.

I really struggled from level 11 to 12  (so i could wear my new armor set) The next armor set is 15 and I can tell you I don't think I have the desire play beyond level 12.   This game reminds me a lot of 2 moons which was an incredibly mind numbing grind (in my opinion).

Oh, and of course the gold selling spam continues to plague the mmorg universe.

Um, yea, you just dove right in didn’t ya.

The movement is a little better if you coordinate your wasd with the right mouse button down. You will move in the direction that the camera is pointed so 'w' is always away from the camera and 's' toward it. You are also experiencing some lag with the rubber banding you described.

The mobs with yellow names have an elemental affinity so you will have a hard time unless you use an opposite elemental attack. Check out the icon next to their name and you will see how these change.

You should not need to touch your potions as these can be set with the slider on their bar so that they get used automatically.   Also you do realise that you can key in all your attacks with the numbers and - + keys.  you dont need to use your mouse on these and you should not.

You can’t PvP till 30th level so you don’t have to worry bout that.

It’s like most MMORPGS in that it is more fun with friends.

Thanks I've figured out the potion thingy...and the elemental mob thingy.

I'll try your suggestions with mouse and w,s keys.

I've actually done pretty well in game w/ drops and have equpped myself pretty well.

The armor/weapon upgrade system seems to be very much like 2moons, which I thought was about the only thing good about 2moons.

I find the Auctionhouse very tedious to shop with, especially if you have 250 pages of an item to either shop for or price check.

I'm level 17 now I'll probably hit it a few more days at least.

Yea the AH needs help.  Other than that I find it fun to come back to every other week or so.  Its free so you never feel cheated for not playing.
