Hi fine folks of this forum.
I stop by this forum every now and then to read up on games about to launch and games launching sometime in future. Most of the time, that is about how familiar I am getting with a game, as I am a bit of an oldie (in the late 30's) and also have a very busy job and a hectic family life. However I am a gamer and have some comments.
My favorite game at the time is Age of Conan. I know that a lot of content was missing when it first launched and that many people used to be plagued with performance issues. Anyway I want to explain why I still rank this game several orders of funfactors above other games in same gaming genre.
Since I don't have the luxury to play many games (even though I certainly can afford to buy a tonn of them) I want something which is special and add something novel to the experience. Now, Age of Conan does this. The game has a fantastic atmosphere with a wide specter of possibilities for role-playing. At the same time it also really offers a though challenge in combat through it's unique combination system. You can stack all kinds of effects on top of your combo in fact and do that while you swap around your guard from left to right, just after you dodged back or to the side (if you ever get to a skill level where you can master such complexity). Now try to use all these combat mechanics at the same time. It is truly impressive to see people that master this in PvP. No more of this running around each other and try to get in a hit (well of course you see this too because this is what falls natural for many people and what people have been used to up to now). I could go on and on probably to an annoying level on this. But what I really stopped by to say in this forum is that it does not seem like many of the posters here really are up to speed on the latest changes in AoC.
I have never seen so many gratitude threads posed in the AoC forums. The last patch was a fantastic improvement to the game in terms of performance, content, sieges, balancing, PvP. To start with what shocked people the most last night ( I only play on patchnight and maybe once a weekend if my wife allows it)
PERFORMANCE
People that for some reason before was plagued with the greymap/OOM errors before every hour now play with not a worry in the world. FPS is up, play is smoother and latency issues totally eradicated... I never had much of issues, but I could feel the frustration of those that had it before. Due to this I hoped for an improvement so that In-game friends of mine could get help... Well, help came big time and just removed every OOM issue there is. This alone is worthy a patch on it's own. If you had performance issues before, do expect them to be gone now.
CONTENT
More stuff, Villa and dungeon tweaks, +13 quests for high level people (In fact I woun’t comment to much on this as I do not have the full overview of everything)
SIEGES
Well sieges have now been fully functional for 1-2 months but, there have still been issues with the gate, the guards being a bit hyperactive and other. All these remaining issues are fixed in a great way.
BALANCING
People open threads where the gem downgrade/modification get praised. The survivability is absolutely much better and the consensus of the AoC community is now that balancing is very good with exception of Bear Shaman. Bear Shaman seem to be a bit too hard nail to break for most classes which basically is against the rock, scissor, paper principle of MMO PvP.
PvP
Finally!! People are ecstatic over the new system and I tell you I had personally a lot of fun last night even though the Minigames now has a line.
I add some of the threads currently in progress in the US AoC forum for your reading if you are interested. From what I am reading here some of you might not be interested But anyhow, read up so you know what you talk about in next flamepost Thank you for your attention folks and I invite you on to the Set server if you want test your skills head to head with the old gamers. Look for OrionMan I am a Conqueron and my Hammer is huge.

One more thing... Do also check out the EU AoC forums for more information...
yeah full speed down the drain
You seem like a completely legitimate player and absolutely not a Failcom plant. I find your ideas intriguing, do you have a blog or perhaps newsletter that I could subscribe to?
*POP* That's me bursting your bubble.
Sorry but the producer of the game and 16 year founder of the company didn't just resign citing dissatisfaction with the game because thing are going good with AoC.
Yeah, its possible things could turn around under new leadership but its not like its going to be anytime soon.
Wow, such a pathetic viral marketing attempt. Things might be looking up a bit, but there's still a whole lotta Fail over at Failcom that still needs to be changed before this dog hunts again.

"This is the most intelligent, well qualified and articulate response to a post I have ever seen on these forums. It's a shame most people here won't have the attention span to read past the second line." - Anon
Gents I am baffled by the maturity in your respons. The motivation for this post was to share some information with people that kind of has a repetetive respons thing going on. I can not see why this rather friendly and inteligent post invoked such degenerate respones. Anyway the information is available now ... I am sure you will have fun on it
That you'd be baffled by maturity is not surprising. As people who feel they've been ripped off by FC it brings some small manner of satisfaction to warn others off. Your post titled "Age Of Conan is full speed ahead!!" might mistakenly make people think the game is going well. I merely point out that if things were going well the game's producer and 16 year founding member would not have just resigned citing dissatisfaction with the game.
Didn't the game producer just resign citing dissatisfaction? Isn't that a valid signal that there are problems with the game? Whats wrong with telling people that?
If anyone here is in the wrong it would be tools that are trying to help FC rip off more consumers.
{ Mod Edit }
I have not played AOC and now nothing about the content or lack of in the game. My only comment is that resigning over dissatifcation over a product does not aways mean the product is lacking. The problem can be that the person does not get along well with upper management and thus can not get the needed resources to move the product along. This inturn creates dissatifcation. A new person that gets along with the company can then step in and move the product forward toward the original goal making the product good.
I always wondered if Erling Ellingson had an account on these forums....
I quit playing AoC...
Not due to the gray map, OOM, lag, boring quests, tater sack armor, poorly coded graphics in villas or broken sieges.
I quit becuase Funcom is lousy at communication. Funcom would rather lie to their customers than talk with them and try to figure out why over half the players left after 3 months, I quit because as a tester our input was ignored, and buggy content went live, I quit becuase After release we never heard from the devs again, the only people we heard from were the paid liars, and the lies were getting old.
I am still lurking the AoC boards, the game has huge potential. And after hearing about Goute getting the axe and the PVP patch actualy being deployed, they are headed in the right direction, they aren't moving very fast, but that can't be helped.
Sorry for bursting inn again but I just have to cause you have misunderstood the whole Gaute Godaker resigning event in the wrongest possible way. You can read on this a lot about this on the AoC forums. Let me sum it up. GG is basically the visionary behind the AoC system. He is the person that in development that has pushed for novelty and the high end technology like DX10 (I am telling you, there are few people still in the gaming industry that can handle the DX10 kernel in a proper manner). GG has all along believed in technology and gone for that in spite of other fractions of FC rather which rather wanted to focus on gameability and perhaps take more of an easy route (which certain other games recently launched in my opinion has done). Well, we all know that AoC, even though the potential was fantastic had a good share of stability problems post launch. Most of these problems was due to GG's ambitious visions and he probably want to take the responsibility for that. At the same time though GG visions is also the reason why this amazing gaming system now is place and in further development. Last thing he did before leaving was to stabilize all gaming code, and finish off DX10 which basically completes Gautes work. Chris Moris which represent the gameability fraction of FC and he will now make sure the game becomes even funner and this is basically the right time for that to happen anyway cause there are few technical boundaries to brake for this game after GG finishing off his work..
Finally (sorry this gets a bit lenghty) GG is by now means giving up FC and the game. Gaute wanted probably more to send a message to the gaming community and the stockholders that FC takes their responses seriously than say he did not belive in the game. After all he has a tonn of FC stock (about 2 % if I recall it right) and he has not sold one single one of those meaning he absolutely is optimistic. Anyway... Read more on the forums about this drama.. Gatta go:)

For all your blah blah blah its pretty clear that were the game doing well, Gaute would not have resigned citing dissatisfaction with the game.
Spin it anyway you want, no one is going to think otherwise.
I'll grant you new leadership can help but it won't happen overnight so re-subbing because of this news would be foolish considering FC's track record so far.
no one is arguing the game did not have issues at launch.
noone is arguing that the game has stumbled forcing GG to do what he did.
just read the OP post. than read the replies.
in other words.
go away.
the game will have added content. the game will have issues resolved. we know we are not playing a finished game.
but things are getting worked on, im satisfied...apparently the OP is too.
-I will subtlety invade your psyche-
Not sure how to respond, except for the line "I stop by this forum every now and then to read up on games about to launch and games launching ' yet clearly you joined just today...I find your credibility a little lacking.
But provide enough sensible data and I'm you'll be judged fairly...well, ermm...
...
Motivational speech of sorts. Read tha last comment I had and figure it out for yourself. Basically if it stinks then change it or get away from it.
Wow nice spin, do you work for FOX news? Taken from this thread here - www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/202323
"Gaute is dissatisfied with certain elements in the game, and wishes to take the consequences of that. That's why he's leaving Funcom, says Ellingsen to VG Nett.
- He has also worked long in the gaming industry and wants new challenges. In addition he feels that "Age of Conan" needs new, fresh eyes to meet the challenges the game is facing, he adds."
It sure sounds to me like he's giving up the game.
First thing is I never said make your own game with 30 plus programmers, what I was trying to get across is dont sit around in a shitty diaper if it stinks, hence you said Im going to bed and then wake up and play WAR. Thats exactly what im talking about, and you did exactly what I said. If you spent all your time bitchin about a crooked log when building a log house it wouldnt get built. Move on. I think everyone or the vast majority here is intelligent enough to figure out whats good for them.
Gotta love that in the 21st century some folks still want to play 'Missionary' and convert the 'Heathens'
Btw OP Gaute's last name is Godager and Morrison's first name is Craig. Ask FC/Eidos to fix those typos in the viral script outline.
If anything you stated was true, I would think someone (a fan maybe) would have posted a "Sorry to see you go GG, we will miss you" thread.
GG was replaced a year after AO released, and oddly enough, that was when AO started getting a little better, I think AoC can only get better with GG gone.
What is so sad about AoC are the folks that utterly ignore all the problems with the game and claim that everything is perfect when it isn't. , When I was having a few problems with the game I found that reading the tech forums was pointless due to all the morons telling everyone that there wasn't a problem, they never experienced that themselves. Funcom Fans don't seem to have any common sense just because you didn't experience the bug doesn't mean it isn't there, and telling everyone that it doesn't exist since you haven't seen it just proves everyones opinions about Funcom fanboys, (which is "pea-brain moron" btw).
Simple things like keymapping have been broken multiple times in multiple patches, and Funcom leaves it up to the community to "work around" issues themselves rather than working with the community to repair the issues.
If Funcom wants a good reputation, then they need to learn to communicate with their players, that is their major issue, putting their collective head in the sand and ignoring negative feedback will never work.
I wanted AoC to succede in a big way, I love the Conan Universe, but With a release 6 months too early, poorly tested patches, lies from Funcom employees and payed shills on the forums, and the inability to realise that the customers aren't the enemy, they don't have a lot to go on. Anyone can read any game board and see that AoC still has serious hurdles to overcome and even though they have the best graphics of any MMO on the market that won't help a seriously unfinished game.
Good luck with blowing all that smoke up peoples backsides, though
This is the most obvious and pathetic attempt at viral marketing that I have ever seen.
You "stop by this forum to read up on the games every now and then" but you just joined yesterday and posted this great piece of literature?
This is what I'm talking about. CLEARLY, and I mean CLEARLY someone affiliated with Funcom wrote this post. Just look at the structure, it's an advertisement, plain and simple.
To the OP: This is the most poorly written advertisement I have ever seen hiding as a forum post. If you have enough time to put together something so ridiculous you certainly have the time to actually fix the game...
Instead of the 3 hours it took you to write this trash you could have spent 3 hours fixing:
PvP
Lack of high level content (meaning level 20 and up)
Given Dark Templar a reason to play this game
Fixed other profession issues, and there are many
Fixed sieges
Made AoC an actual complete MMO, not a game that is 50% complete and charging full price
What a joke-
Tecmo Bowl.
For some reason the discussion ends up off topic (Godager vs Morrison). The initial post was just an attempt to inform you of a massive change in AoC, which so fare is just very successfull and positive. I was trying to inform the community by this post, that AoC last week and AoC this week is absolutely not the same. Ask any AoC player. Therefore, at least read up on what the fuzz is about before you continue flaming. Get the facts straight. It's just silly to i.e state that AoC do not have a PvP system in place when a very good system now in fact is in place. Same goes for Siege and Content. That just my thought on the topic though...
Read the start of this thread, then post (or am I too optimistic here )
EDIT: Just to add a comment to poster above... If you read my post, you would not give your list cause many of your bullet points are exactly what I say have been fixed. Now... If you do not belive me, that's a different thing. Then I would just say so.
Let me ask you, have you played the game since Patch 2.0 or have you asked one of your AoC gaming friends what they thought about this patch... Anyway, my job is not to convert you or anything but I think it is imensely annoying that some people can't get the facts straight just because it does not suit the agenda of the cruisade.
Umm, your one of those Protus wanna-bes that plays the official forums and not the game. How I wish the OG trolls still has access to those threads, it was a better place then.
I liked this game. For me, it was the only interesting MMO out there up until lvl 80. After 80, though, I decided I'd rather tweeze my ball-bag than continue playing.
Kheshatta is NOT PvP.
I do hope things turn around. I'd like to see that. But frankly, I've already braced myself for a disappointment. Funcom seems to think that unveiling DX10 will somehow 'reverse the curse' that is this game. They are wrong. They are wrong about a lot of things. Let's face it.
That said, the OP's post rubs my groin the wrong way. I just don't like it, nor him. In fact, I wish on Conan's Mullet that I had a lvl 80 toon on the Set Server so I could stalk his gimp, righteous ass to the ends of Poitan and back. Seriously, what a douche minus the vinegar.
I quote:
"Hi fine folks of this forum."
I hate you.
"Since I don't have the luxury to play many games (even though I certainly can afford to buy them) I want something..."
Blow a squid's soggy reproductive squishy thing. The fact that you had to add that little nugget of info (in paranthesis) only proves you are a unemployed porn shoot fluffer whose hands have held more nuts than a Planter's Peanuts factory worker.
"The game has a fantastic atmosphere with a wide specter (ghost? cough. spectrum) of possibilities for role-playing."
Yeah, sounds about right. You're the kind of late thirties nob that hangs out in in-game taverns (because we know real bars are probably too scary for you) talking a lot of thou...thee...hail, good sir...kind of shit. Many a time I came across delusional mopes of your ilk and role-played like I was shitting on the ground before them just before scratching my name in it.
"...swap around your guard from left to right, just after you dodged back or to the side (if you ever get to a skill level where you can master such complexity)."
Cock swilling, handicapped, felch-receiver of a liar. Have you four fucking hands, man? I submit no.
"I have never seen so many gratitude threads pos(t?)ed in the AoC forums. The last patch was a fantastic improvement to the game in terms of performance, content, seiges, balancing, PvP..."
Oh, so this last patch fixed everything? Everything? Tits on a Ritz! I'm there.
"People that for some reason (cough. shitty programming) before was plagued with the greymap/OOM errors before every hour now play with not a worry in the world."
I still can't piss in front of other people. So much for the whole "not a worry in the world" thing.
"FPS is up, play is smoother and latency issues totally eradicated..."
The fuck you say.
"More stuff, Villa and dungeon tweaks..."
Booty, because Crom's whore of a mother knows, I always felt like I needed an excuse to run MORE Villas.
"People open threads where the gem downgrade/modification get praised..."
Yeah, opened by poorly dick chafing crybabies who never could afford to craft or buy a set.
"I add some of the threads currently in progress in the US AoC forums for your reading if interested..."
Do people still bother posting on that Communist Propoganda Spinning site? How about some links to the thousands of deleted threads deemed "not suitable" by Ingsoc!
Lame dick attempt, sir. Lame dick.
P.S. Your company stock in funcom will soon be worth even less than the bloody shit I took not three hours ago.
P.S.S I've no doubt that MMORPG will be "nerfing" this reply of mine soon. So I encourage any and all who stand by it to copy and paste it to other forums so we can keep this shiznatz on the real, yo.
lvl 7 mage WoW
Well the thing is, no one trusts you. You just joined the forum today and made a first post that looked (in all honesty) like an advertisement for the game. We've had another person do the same lately (the appropriately named ILOVEFUNCOM) so having another hugely supportive post from someone who just joined is kind of strange.
But hey, if that is how you really feel and your original post was genuine, then more power to you.
So the game is finally full speed ahead after it went in full speed in reverse for the last 4 months. So I guess come Feb they will have finally offered everything that was supposed to be there in release.
