RvR - Ranged DPS needs a hit with the nerf bat?

I know its new, so I wont QQ about it, but from my initial observations in RvR, im only lvl 10 now, ranged dps seems a bit OP.  Otherwise I love the game.  What do you guys think?

Get past tier 1 and you will see that it is pretty balanced.  In huge Zerg battles like what happens in Tier 1 ranged dps will always seem powerful because they are the ones doing damage.

Cool cant wait!  So far am loving the game.  Thanks for the info,

Mages seemed way overpowered at first, but now that everyone is building up the resitances it's not near as bad.

Well the thing about ranged DPS characters in all games is that they seem to be the most powerful because they are the ones who can do the most damage. They are made up for this by having virtually no defense.

Just find a way to reach them before they have time to demolish you. A smart team, though, will have it's melee characters blocking your path. This is why ranged DPS seem so good; it's hard to get past them in a team setting.

Though, fighting one on one, it should be pretty easy on a rock paper scissors perspective: Tanks + MDPS + Utility > RDPS, RDPS = RDPS, RDPS > RHealers. Obviously they have a disadvantage one on one. In a group, in almost any class based game, is where RDPS shines.

The only chance a RDPS has solo is using guerilla warfare.

I'm playing an engineer, and I can tell you, I don't feel like we're too strong.  Mages, maybe, but for my class, it can take forever to kill healers, which is who I usually target...

  • Dagon13Dagon13 Member UncommonPosts: 566

Knowing your class works wonders for your capabilities.  I used to complain all the time about my shadow warrior being underpowered, now it's not uncommon for me to score a 20:1 kill vs death ratio in scenarios.

Anyway, things change as you level as classes earn new abilities that give them advantages they didn't have previously.

HEHE, OP.  My Squiggy seems underpowered as hell, and I top in the top 3 in kills and damage.  But I get very few KILL SHOTS.   Most of those are the damned melee DPS classes.

They just need to reduce the range at which they can attack.

Working as intended... squishy's are extremely easy to kill up close. If you are foolish enough to just stand there and let the nukers nuke you repeatedly... well :)

Well considering ranged dps in this game seems to have the same range as the archers in Dun Baldar(hordies will know what im talkin about here) , its not always easy to get out of range =D

I would say engineer and maybe magus need a bump up, not a nerf.

Nerf bat? I've been hitting Sorcerers over the head with my Dwarven nerf bat all day!

They don't need a nerf, you just have to charge in and get in their face. Hinder them a little bit and start bashing their heads in, they won't last very long. Interrupts are nice for casters as well (aka. Taunt/Knockdown).

    STOP WHINING!

Mages does huge dps, but when u have one of those mutant thingies on u, u are waaaay to porcelaine fragile. Its very hard to win a 1 vs 1 as a Mage vs a good melee class imo. And  if i really want to do high dps, i start blowing myself up.

I think Blizzard could learn aLOT about balancing from this game.

Try playing a ranged DPS and you'll learn! I play a sorceress and unless I've got back-up, I'm toast when a tank comes after me. Heck, I can get killed by a BW or runepriest if they really hate me and I don't take notice soon enough. I expect to die in pvp. The times when I'm most successful is when the enemy is more focused on healers or just everyone else but the sorceress that is slowly picking you off one by one. I once picked off two of their archmages before someone decided it might be a good idea to take me out. Ranged DPS doesn't need a nerf, everyone else needs better tactics!

Um...no. Ranged dps have no defense other than whatever distance we can keep from everybody else. Once a melee character catches up it's game over.

No don't get out of range, get in range. That's a world of difference. I want to see  any squish herder(example) make out alive from a melee that hits.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

My lvl 17 Iron breaker (sword and board) does less damage than my lvl 2 shadow warrior...

  • dbgagerdbgager Member UncommonPosts: 175

Witch Hunters seem to be a pretty strong class...They do alot of damage close up with there sword(very close to a wow rogue..even has finishing moves based on a 5 point system).and also can fire there gun while they are running..plus it has a slowing effect..Get one of these guys behind you while you are trying to escape a battle and you can forget it.

Chosen discord spec looks to be the melee healer killer.  Run the 25% healing debuff aura, seeping wound damaging each HoT tick from the tainted wound tatic, and possibly being able to use withering blow to leech off your AP.

Looking at either a more offensive build, www.wardb.com/career.aspx

or a caster killer, with group shielding build, www.wardb.com/career.aspx

Depending on how to run the points, you offer better melee or caster friendly builds.  Though that healer offensive build looks quite nice no matter how you stack it.  Does anyone know if it procs off healing potions?
