I got to play on a friends account.

Once I played it and found it was just a re-polished WoW. I'm glad I didn't waste the money.

I stil dont see why Swordmaster is restricted or classes like that. Probably fully 3/4ths of the people playing this game doesnt know (or care) about this games lore. Its not called "LOREhammer".

Who cares if a human could be a swordmaster? And seriously, how many ppl really want to play Testosteroned Challenged male Elves anyways? Why is it out of the question that a human would have travelled to Elfland and became a swordmaster? I was leveling a Bright Wizard, and when I hit level 8 I saw a Dwarf Engineer doing a PQ in Chapter 2, in the human zone.

Now if THAT guy could travel half the world and get to a human zone, why in lore wouldnt he be allowed to train as a bright wizard? This elitist 'lore" stuff makes no sense. Its just a PvP game. This game isnt spose to be heavy on story, its more for the kill factor and achievements and battles.

Not really tbh, even though I dont see anything exceptional about the game it is still a solid basis at the moment to grow from. I would feel sorry for paying 30 pounds if the game was in the same state AoC was in when I brought it, that game has no hope of ever being good, this one I might not sub to at the end of the month but I would keep an eye on it to see the direction they take it with content patches.

So, it's name must be change to LOREhammer for it to be allowed to have Lore? Are you serious?

The lore is a big part of the game (the core of the game i would say) and i think anyone who's ever played a Warhammer game before would agree.

Since you don't care for the lore, which you made perfectly clear, you probably won't understand when i say it isn't at all as easy as traveling to the others lands to learn their techniques (especially for Dwarfs and Elves)

So in essence, no, it's NOT just a PvP game.. i may be baiting a troll here but nevermind.

If i were as narrowminded as some other people in MMORPG's these days i would probably shorten that to: Go back to wow lol n00b!

    So, on to the topic..

I haven't bought the game (seriously considering it though) but i was in beta and while i wasn't that impressed back then i've heard good things about it from friends who play it, and i would probably not regret the purchase.

Well, this isnt the 1st game with class restrictions ( i got really pissed of in LotRO with no elf captain or dwarf lore master) and im pretty sure its not the last. Well, i can understand why devs did this way. In my opinion it gives some kind of unique sight/feeling (call it whatever you like)  or sumtn to certain race. So, it doesnt ruin the game, it is basically sumtn you have to deal with. What pisses me of a lot more in MMOs it is when you have a character select -

Warrior Male, Wizard Female (now why cant a male become a wizard? ) Well thank goodness those mmos are rare nowadays.

I want to buy it, but before I do that, can someone borrow a friend so I can try it before I buy it?

I have no trouble with all the balance talk, I would play destruction anyway, but I do have some problems with people who can't take any negativity about the game, it could become really tireing playing with so many of them.

Meh, forget it, don't have time anyway, need to level my second rogue to 70 before the King returns.

yeah Fess, I remember that in LOTRO too.. (no mages) cause I guess Gandalf was the only mage or whatever allowed and would ruin the lore (movies, books).

Im not saying war is a bad game, didnt say that at all. Im just saying its what it is... its not spectacular by any means, or no way lived up to the hype on forums etc it was given (im sure ill get some fanbois trolling but) its a decent game so far. But you are talking to someone whos only played it since release, not beta. People who play beta first then the release tend to base it on seeing things in a bad or average state, then improved, as opposed to someone seeing it fresh out the box. To the person who buys it off the shelf, it doesnt matter one lick how it played in beta, but how it looks and plays now with fresh eyes.

The probs I see now as a "new" sub is that the Destruction appears to be HEAVILY in charge of things with more interesting classes. My only point about not restricting classes to race (some should be) was that Im sure that if a Human tanks like Destruction side has or Sorceress was allowed, youd see more on the Order side balancing it out. But as it is, the Destruction is gonna probably own this game until some kind of revamp to make the Order more "attractive".

I gave the game in its current state a  7/10 rating. There is room for improvement and Im sure it will go up in a few months if they can get more Order to make things fair.

i was sceptical about WAR cause I'm not big (wasn't) on pvp. I love WAR......go buy it.

  • PyrichPyrich Member Posts: 1,040

I'm thinking of buying it,  gonna give it a week or two more to settle down.

But even if I don't like it im not going to feel bad for spending a small amount of money to try it out.

I played WAR in beta...so avoided the mistake of buying it.(5 year DAOC vet....I know good and poor rvr when I play it).

  • StellosStellos Member UncommonPosts: 1,491

Warhammer is a lot of fun.  I don't typically enjoy level-based, gear-focused games, however, Warhammer has so much more to offer that it actually keeps me pretty involved.  It definately helps haveing a really good guild (Vendetta) to be apart of, as this keeps thing "grind" of level-based games from being obvious.  I really enjoy this game and see myself playing it for quite sometime.  Atleast until Bioware releases their Starwars MMO.

sorry but your poll is .. not good..

Like someone said.. the CE was one of the best for the money I really feel I got my moneys worth for that alone. So Amazon had a CE so I bought that for a friend that started and loved playing. Was in closed beta and the game still has some bugs bug man is it a blast.

Yes I got ripped off big time with AOC! haha

Sorry for going off-topic, but that statement there made me chuckle.

Back on topic: I see Warhammer Online being based on the Warhammer lore. Now, with that said, being able to make a human swordmaster would be ridiculous, as well as an insult to the lore itself. I myself as a Warhammer enthusiast totally understand this. If you can't, then so be it.

being a warhammar nut (i cant put down those damn novels and the pen and paper was ok,  the least said about the PC games the better i suppose ) i find the game to be gripping.  being turned off of PvP by WoW and a few other MMO's its fun to finally play some good fun PvP (never tried DAoC but its clear that i should have).  As far as the fun factor of this game, you NEED a friend (or several) in order to have fun.  going around exploring the area and beating the crap out of players is no where near as fun unless you have a friend by your side.  My Runepriest and my friends Archmage make a great duo and (if you follow the Lore of Warhammar slightly) fit in nicely to the "new" era of Elf/Dwarf relations.

one thing that peeves me off just a bit (and only a bit and i feel it will sort itself out) is that everyone wants to play in the Empire/Chaos area and, after playing all 3 i found that it sucked compared to the High elf/Dark elf area and both were blitzed by the Dwarf/Orc area (though it was expected since it was the first to be created).

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Hell no I don't feel sorry for them.  This game rocks!

    Welcome to the WAR :)

    I stand corrected Biz,

Im not a enthusiast... just a guy playing a computer game and pointing out what would be more fun from a non-lore guys perspective regarding classes and such. If warhammer is after a niche base, thats cool too.. no hard feelings  :)

I apologize to any warhammer fans who obviously get personally insulted by suggestions to change a worldview or the order of the universe. I know how lore can be (why i left LOTRO) and the tolls it brings to a game long term by staying true.

Ill still mess around with War on the non RP server until something better comes out (hopefully in 2009) but if its all gonna stay lore like LOTRO, thats why I left that game after a few months so unless the gameplay is steller, which it isnt, I probably wouldnt stay.

Not insulted here :). I totally understand your view. The whole "Boxed-in" class gaming. I just don't think that it would work with a game based on a world that has had a very rich (and strict) lore for many years (Be it Warhammer or LOTR).

Well popinjay that's a backhanded comment if I ever saw one...but we both know that, don't we? ;)

I think you're right but your method of going about it is incorrect. Rather than add human swordmasters, they need to bring back the empire Knights. Those were the human tank/heavily armored guys. Having to be an elf or a dwarf if you want to be a tank on the Order side does suck, and it is having an adverse affect on the population levels for tanks on Order side.

HELL NO I DON'T REGRET IT! Rusing into a PQ where both sides are trying to kill the other factions npcs and beeing able to fight the other faction kicks serious ass!

Haven't had this much fun in ages! Even though my side was outnumbered 3:1, flanking the enemies lines and droping their casters before the rest noticed was extremely fun last night, I though I was at it for about 30 minutes... it turned out to be about 3 hours.

People can say whatever the hell they want about this game but until you try it, you won't really know. For me it's FUN and that's what matters. Don't let people tell you what the game is... go out, buy it or wait for a trial and find out for yourself.

    WWAAAAGGHHHHHH!

I wouldnt say "boxed in". Seems boxed in would be having to play a class cause the lore SAYS you have to play a class. That to me is boxed in. (you are a human. humans can never be Swordmasters. go to your place).

But one thing.. why isnt Permadeath an option in this game? Didnt characters die in the Warhammer books for good? Or were everyone rezzable?

Well, I think you're taking this a bit too far. WAR seems to be based (a lot) on the tabletop game, as well as the lore. In the tabletop game (Or P&P version for that matter), there is no such thing as a human swordmaster (Again, I call on that one xD). I think Mythic took the common Archetypes (Tank, Healer, Melee dps, etc.), and then simply looked at the races and identified their specific classes in both name and use. The novels, however, seem to be a bit more forgiving in these matters, but not much.

And Permadeath...well......we used to run permadeath pen & paper games in the Warhammer world (Warhammer Fantasy I think it was called). A lot of fun. However, I didn't have to pay monthly fees for those :). I think that says it all.

EDIT: I just realised, wouldn't a human swordmaster be an Empire Greatsword?
