Hello all,
I'm having a dilemma here, and wanted some feedback from others if you have the time.
Now I've been playing MMO's for awhile (EQOA on ps2 was my first) and I want to finally settle down on one and the 2 that i'm currently trying to decide on are WoW and EQ2.
Now I played WoW a long time ago for about 1.5 years (60 T2 mage pre-BC) and quit before BC was released. Decided to pick up BC when it came out, made a Draenai and Blood Elf and never really ventured into Outland with my mage, quit a few weeks later. So all in all I've never experienced anything that BC offered. I loved the game at the time but now when i look back on it, it seems extremely shallow and I always hesitate when thinking about going back into it because I dont want to end up grinding up to 70 and hit a crossroads with the only directions being raid, pvp or another alt (i like having only 1 character).
After quitting WoW i decided to try the MMO's that were out at the time and played most of the big name ones, finally settling down, buying and subscribing to EQ2. I played EQ2 for a few weeks, maybe a month or two and loved the size and feel of the world, but realized that I would probably never get to see most of it and quit after getting a dirge to 27. I've tried to go back to it many times (multiple characters around lvl 20) with my most recent character right now a 28 Brigand. I love the world of norrath as that was my first MMO world and the fact that the world is just so huge keeps me wanting to come back, whereas WoWs world aside from Outland seems really small.
The problem i'm having is that i know that i'm not going to be a hardcore raider (dont have the time to dedicate all in one sitting) and i don't really want to waste the time to lvl a character in WoW (Death Knight mainly) only to hit a wall at lvl 80 (WotLK) with only either PVP (i always got bored after a week of solid PvPing) or raiding left to do. I know that the new instances will have 10man versions which between that and the Death Knight class in general are the two reasons why i'm even thinking about going back to it as I loved the old 10-mans (great times in UBRS).
So that was WoW and what I think of it, then there is EQ2 and I admit that i am a complete n00b when it comes to anything that game has to offer, but i feel as though when i was lvl 30 in WoW (granted that was when the cap was 60) i was truely through half the game. However, i have a 28 in EQ2 and it feels like i haven't even started the game yet with the size of the world and everything. I also know that alot of the older stuff probably isn't done much anymore which only leads to the newer things, however I could be wrong and that's 1 reason why I'm here today.
As of right now I don't plan on raiding, but what I was going to do was me and a friend of mine were going to try and start up a guild in WoW that after hitting 80 focused on going back and hitting all of the old dungeons that people forgot about (BRS, BRD, DM, MC, BWL, AQ...etc etc) and maybe doing some of the 10-mans in the new expansion depending on how long they were, obviously not for loot, but just for fun *gasp*. But would that fun run out once we realize that we can steamroll everything and finish them all in under a month, lol. Especially with the talk that people can solo Ony around the high 70's.
So, now that all of that is done, my question to all of you is this, basically I'm asking for some feedback from both sides of the fence WoWers and EQ2ers about which game would be more worth it. Has WoW changed that much from pre-BC to now to be worthy of coming back and to successfully do as I stated above? I would start a new character now but then when WotLK launches just make a Death Knight, as i still have my 60 mage lying around. Or should I stick with EQ2 and just play and take my guild idea there?
From my stand point right now it seems that when I hear people talking about leaving WoW it's always they're sick of raiding and pvping and making alts, but i never hear of people from EQ2 that hit cap and have nothing to do if they don't raid. So i'm just looking on some input.
If anybody read all of this and can give me some constructive feedback I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you all,
